LORD, on a day when promises are being made...

LORD, on a day when promises are being made,
To persuade people to vote...
I wonder how many of the promises will be kept?
How many lies spoken in order to ask people to 'turn their coat'?

LORD, this may SEEM very cynical,
A sad view of the political world...
Whose fault is it though that people feel like this?
When insults - rather than true policies - are often hurled?

LORD, would that a new breed of political leaders 
Would emerge and state their intent honestly...
Men and women conducting themselves
With dignity and true integrity!

LORD, is it really too much to expect these people -
Who squabble over our country - across the 'Commons' floor...
To be able to trust their words and deeds!
And trust them to work consistently for our good - instead of simply causing a furore!

LORD, can we honestly trust any of them?
Because they all SEEM to be going the same way!
They promise the earth (which is NOT their's to give)...
Anything and everything to win on Election Day!

LORD, Raise up a mighty army before the next Election Day,
Men and women wanting to truly serve the will of their constituencies!
Men and women willing to lay their own self interest to one side,
To serve their country selflessly - and in doing so serve Thee!
