Beneath my feet the ground is dry
Despite the tears that children cry
And saddened faces caked in blood
When for them there should be only mud
Above, the sun shines unperturbed
Fields of blue skies left undisturbed
But fear sets in once it's night
As mounted soldiers express their might
Bullets fire and sharp swords clang
So loud we missed when the bluebird sang
A song summed up in one tweet
About a time when life was sweet
Instead the mantra that we hear
Is a saying that cause all fear
"Our cause is right, our cause is just"
"And seek to end them all we must"
Vultures came to replace the bird
But about them not a sentence heard
For soldiers soak up all the fame
With "For our God" as their rightous claim
No one stops to see the people cry
For all eyes look up to the sky
Searching hopeful for a guide
Upon whom their lives they relied
But will he answer to our call
When we seek to kill them all
Human, animal, plant alike
So that we may prove we are right
There was once a time with them I cheered
Was once a being that others feared
But my fire quelled from red to blue
And I asked God: Is this true?
Once in his name, I dealt death
Til there was very little left
But when I saw my tattered soul
I realized war could not make me whole
Forgive me God for I have sinned
I have let the darkness win
They might not see what they have done
But for them- and me- I put down my gun
And though my actions you may despise
Please God, hear my desert cries
Forgive me of my darkest sins
And a new life I willl begin
