I walked up to a man of wealth
and asked the question
My good man do you have any money to spare?
he looked at me, not missing a beat
with a straight face and said "no"
with his billions clutched
I turned to a woman with child in stroller
to inquire the same, yet to her
she said in stride without a look
"no" as she clutched her purse
to a couple leaving a restaurant
I asked the same question referring to both
as his lady hid beneath his arms
and he held her tight, her head down
and his head to the side, said "no"
not even eye to eye
my next encounter was even more rude
for the next person I approached
not only held their hand to my face
but with ear to phone
cursed me and said get a job
I sat on a stoop next to a fountain
with head tilt slightly down
there came a child
no older than twelve
looked at me eye to eye with head held up
a grin that will have the sun shine all day
placed money in my hand, gave me a hug
and said in my ear
"Beware of how you entertain strangers
for you entertain Angels unaware"
