An older poem which while humorous has a serious side.

My path to enlightenment

seems temporarily blocked

I curse the gates of heaven

as I find them locked

White fluffy clouds

catch my falling knees

Who knew the holy grail

was a set of keys

Amongst the moist brume

my fumbling hands find

A 24 hour pass

that GOD had signed

Who was I to resist

an inquisitive peek

A rare chance to hear

Aunt Arcadia speak

Was it nerves

perhaps I was scared

My unpacked bible

left me under prepared

St Peter granted entry

with an all knowing wink

My thirst was for knowledge

and this the ultimate drink

Leaving the strings of a harp

in divine concord

Were musical blossoms

to impress the Lord

My gaze of wonder

breathed the orchestral air

Singular was the tear

seeking release from my stare

My mind at ease

and able to weep

I explored paradise

and the endless sleep

Skies were at peace

yet busy with wings

A lull that only a voice

of an angel brings

The sign promoting an exit

was there to deceive

I could return to Earth

Heaven I could never leave

I did send one postcard

from the Kingdom above

It was addressed to mankind

and said simply LOVE
