My Silent Prayer
You see her strolling casually down the street, a loose dress donned over her body and a veil revealing nothing but her startling green eyes. An aura of mystery floats around her. You do not see her rosebud pink lips, her velvety white skin, the soft gold hair that curls gracefully over her shoulders. You do not know that she loves books, her favorite game is Need For Speed, she craves chocolate, she dislikes BMW's. You do not know that she has chosen to conceal herself out of choice. That she would rather contain a modest, unknown lifestyle for people to discover. She is a normal, social girl, with about a thousand friends of every culture and religion. Being a muslim doesn't mean you hang out only with your own type, that would just be rude and weird.
But to the male, she is enigmatic character. She walks in her hijaab, which is beautiful yet simple, next to the girl who is wearing almost nothing and cheapening herself to the rank of a dog. She remains pure, untouched, untoiled with, till the right person comes along, and then she can let go of guarding herself. Like a pearl who is simply waiting for the right owner. Her shell is quite plain, but the treasure inside something else.
Sometimes her heart hurts as she sees people regard her lowly. They're snickering and calling her ninja. They're asking what she's hiding. And inside, it's like a stab wound to the heart. Because they do not understand. You want to run over to those taunting girls and explain, you want to tell them you're not so different to them, you want them to be allies and not enemies. Yet no matter what, no matter what anyone tries to do, she will always be proud of who she is…a muslim.
