My name is Sophie and a few weeks ago my life was...well for a lack of a better word in a shit hole. It basically started July 13th, my 20th birthday. The day had started pretty normal. Actually it had been really good. My family had flown in and my best friend Natalie had come to stay with my for a few weeks we grew up here in New York together, but she had been living in Los Angeles for the past two years. My boyfriend Derrick of 2 years had also come back from visiting his parents. Only to tell me that it just wasn't working out and visiting his family he had quote unquote "rekindled with his old flame from high school". Yeah my birthday. Anyway, later that week I got laid off at Vogue where I was a photographer. Then to top off a crappy week my dad passed away that next monday. Natalie was the one to get me out of the dumps. Thats when we came up with the idea that would end up probably saving my life..metaphorically. We grabbed a globe she spun it and then I pointed to the spot that would be the location that we would travel to. That's how we ended up here in Havana, Cuba. Just me and Natalie and two suitcases each. This was our fresh start.

"Well this is it. We're here" I said stepping out of the airport.

"Yeah what now?" She replied turning towards me.

"Actually I really don't know, I guess we should figure out where we are going to stay. There's gotta be a hotel around here somewhere that we can stay in until we figure things out. I mean I don't know how long we are going to be staying here."

"well we have savings from the past 4 years I think we can afford to stay, but I guess we should start looking. But I know what ever happens we're going to be fine I think this is exactly what we need. I have a good feeling about this"

"I agree" I replied feeling the sureness behind the statement. It did feel right more than anything had in a while. And with that we hooked arms, grabbed our suitcases, and got in a taxi not exactly knowing where to go, but more like following our gut instinct of where we should be.
