Love At First Sight
(A Novel Of Short Romance Stories)
Just One Night
"So, you aren't coming?" Gillian cried.
"I'm not sure about this, I mean, I have nothing to wear." I said as I sunk into my bed, staring at the pale ceiling.
"You have a full closet of clothes! You can't be serious." Gillian said as she dug through my closet.
"Who's even going?" I asked as I pulled out my phone and started texting.
"That hot guy, what's his name? Oh yah! Matt."
"What about his friends?"
"I'm not sure, oh my god! Liv! I never have seen you wear this dress before."
"Let me see it." I said as I sat up and held out my hand.
A blur of vivid, brilliant black streaked across my vision as Gillian placed the dress into my hand.
"I can see why you haven't seen me in this dress before." I said as I fondled the fabric.
"Try it on at least." Gillian squealed.
Sighing, I gathered the dress up from the floor and walked swiftly into the bathroom.
Closing the door, I removed my pajamas.
"ON, Livee. Put the dress ON!" Gillian exclaimed.
Carefully, I slipped the dress over my head. It was snug, falling mid-thigh. I felt half naked. The way the silky folds of fabric wrapped around the front and were tucked under my arm reminded me how my mother use to wrap herself in a towel after a shower.
This dress would have looked perfect on me, but it made me feel uncomfortable. It fit snug around my waist which accented my hips, but I only hoped that was enough to hold it up.
"Let me see!" Gillian squealed. I could feel her impatience as I set foot into the bedroom.
Gillian's jaw fell as my face turned pale. Her eyes widened as she raked over my body with feverish intensity.
"That is perfect!" Gillian shrieked.
I sighed and shifted uncomfortably, digging my bare toes into the carpet.
"Don't tell me it doesn't't fit you really well, it really sets off your figure. Your legs look fabulous, even better with those matching heels you have in your closet…and by the way the fabric crosses in the front will look so good with your hair done up."
I rolled my eyes.
"No, it is," Gillian barked at me as she grabbed my elbow to pull me out of the room, shoving me in front of my dresser's mirror.
I looked at myself, it was ok. Not my style, not me, but it didn't't look ugly like I was afraid it would.
"I look like a slut." I sighed.
She grinned widely at me, eyes glittering with delight, "That's the point!"
"Where is everybody?" I whispered into Gillian's ear.
"Inside the house! Where else would they be?" Gillian hissed.
As we made our way to the front door we were welcomed by a drunken moron.
"Hey girls! Come in! The party is just getting started!" He screeched.
Gillian and I gave a polite, weak smile and pushed our way through the door. Arm in arm, Gillian and I were greeted by Matt and his friends.
"I told you Matt's friends were coming! I always knew you had eyes for Zack!"
I playfully punched her shoulder.
"Shut up!" I hissed.
"Hey Matt…So do you mind getting Liv and I a drink?"
"Sure, anything for you Gillian." Matt said as he winked.
Gillian began blushing and tossed her hair back.
"Hold up, I'll get Liv's drink." Zack winked at me.
"Ok bro." Matt chuckled, patting Zack's back.
Drinking my beer, Gillian and I made our way to the center of the room. Music blasting out of the stereos, we started dancing. Swaying our hips, I began to feel dizzy.
"Gillian, I don't feel so good." I groaned as I clutched my stomach.
"Come on! Don't be a party pooper!" She whined.
I continued dancing and felt the room spinning. I was welcomed by two firm hands on my hips.
"Having a great time I see?" Zack shouted over the music with a sexy grin.
"Yes!" I lied, holding onto his hands for balance.
"That's nice to hear." He said.
"Liv! Come with me to the bathroom? Please!" Gillian said, tugging on my arm.
"But... I'm busy." I whined.
"I'll wait." Zack said.
Pulling me inside the bathroom, Gillian locked the door behind her.
"Ok, remember when you said you weren't feeling so good?" Gillian said.
I stumbled to the floor and moaned.
"I knew it." She laughed.
"What the hell is happening to me?" I mumbled.
"Well for one, your drunk, and for two, Zack drugged you."
"What the hell!" I screeched.
"I think we should take you home. You aren't looking to good." Gillian said.
Gillian knelt down beside me and lifted me up.
"I'm dizzy." I said as I pinched the bridge of my nose.
"Ok sweetie, let's get out of here." She chuckled.
Stumbling our way out of the bathroom, Matt frowned.
"Yah, Liv isn't feeling so well."
Matt chuckled, "Alright later girls!"
As we made our way to the front door, Zack was standing there.
"Are you ok?" Zack said.
"She's fine! Thanks for drugging her douche bag!" Gillian hissed and pushed him out of the way.
Zack walked away, rolling his eyes.
"He is so not boyfriend material." Gillian chuckled.
"I guess not." I whined.
Gillian pushed me into the car.
"Gosh girl! You weigh a lot!"
"Shut up!" I laughed.
Gillian hopped into the driver's seat and started the car.
"Hold on! Are you sure you can drive? How many beers did you have?" I asked.
"Four. I'm fine. Unless… you want to walk." Gillian said.
I sighed and said, "No thanks, let's go."
Gillian was driving when I felt something rising up my throat.
"I think I'm going to be sick Gillian." I blurted out. I couldn't hold it in and puked my guts out on Gillian.
"Shit! Gross!" Gillian screeched. Gillian was screaming.
The car was swaying on the street. The car was screeching to a holt. I heard honking and I lifted my head up to see headlights coming our way, without warning it crashed into us and that's all I remember before it became a big blur.
"Liv?" An unfamiliar voice said.
"I think she needs more rest Dr."
I struggled to open my eyes. My vision was sought with a woman dressed in scrubs.
"Yes?" I said.
"Liv, you have been in a coma for a week now. Don't panic. Everything is going to be alright. We found GHB in your system. You were recently in a car accident. We saved you just in time. But, can you tell us how this happened?" The man said.
"Where's my friend, Gillian and the other driver?" I croaked.
The man and woman looked at each other.
"I'm sorry, but Mrs. Foster died recently of internal injuries as well as the other driver. I'm truly sorry." The nurse said.
"What?" I croaked as all the air was seized out of my lungs. Tears began to swell up in my eyes.
"I'm sorry dear." He said.
"Where are my parents?" I cried.
"Outside. I can bring them for you."
"I need time alone to think." I whispered.
"Alright sweetie, we will come back shortly." The doctor said as he led the nurse away.
As the door shut, I turned to my side and clutched my pillow. I was the cause of this. It was just one night, why did this happen to me? My pain is unexplainable, it's a desperation feeling and a "what do I do now..." where you don't really know what to do with yourself. Lost is a good word for it, empty, raw, sharp, sensitive... and it's true what they say, that pain in the pit of your stomach, you can actually feel it. Among my stillness was a broken heart. People say time heals all wounds, but no one can tell me what I'm supposed to do right now. All I can do right now is to think of what I've done. Right now all I can seem to do is cry. I know all about time and wounds healing, but even if I had all the time in the world, I still don't know what to do with all this hurt right now.
This is Liv's and Gillian's Story! Thanks for reading.
