One Night Stand

There’s something about being in a town for the second time around, I left this stupid town years ago with a broken heart. Now, my heart isn’t whole again but I’m trying my best to put the pieces back together. I lean back in the leather seat and watch as a town flies by, there’s something comforting about being on a train. The train rumbling on and keep going forward, a train never goes backwards, it rocks you and it’s more than easy to fall asleep. I close my eyes ready to fall asleep but the train stops, telling other passengers on the train that we made it to their stop, I watch as other people enter the train. One woman grasping the life out of her child hand who was itching to run away and explore. There was a couple who walked in as well, a short girl with blonde hair and huge sunglasses, the guy had sunglasses and a beanie on pulling it so far down that I’m not sure what hair color he has. The woman has a small baby girl in her hands with soft brown ringlets, I smile at the cuteness of this family.

The guy smiles politely at me as he passes and I watch them into they are out of viewing distance, I sigh and think about how I have to face my sister and Bay View. I sigh and look out of the window as the train takes off again. Not only ten minutes pass by before the sign shows: WELCOME TO BAYVIEW.

I open my eyes and look around to meet eyes with bright blue ones. My sister Charlotte smiles at me while saying, “You’re home, sleeping beauty,”

I look around to see that we are no longer in California, around me are tall green trees that hide a large house. It looks much bigger in person, I only saw it once peering over my step father, Tony’s shoulder and staring at a laptop screen. I move out the car all while my eyes are on the white house. I take in a deep breath of the air and can’t help but feel a smudge of disappointment when I’m not smelling the salt water but the musty smell of trees.

“Home sweet home,” My mom says, walking over to me and throwing an arm around my shoulder, Charlotte giggles and wraps her arm around my waist and Tony stand behind us all and places his hands on my shoulders. For some reason they all know that I’m taking the move the hardest and at the same time they all shake me. I laugh.

“And she laughs!” Tony chuckles, and sighs, “Okay Ladies, lay eyes on our new home!”

The train stops and I nimbly grab my suitcase and roll off of the train and into the platform where tons of people are waiting. I look around for familiar blonde hair and bright blue eyes as my sister said she was picking me up from the train station. I see her but the two men standing with her shocks me, Jace with an arm around her waist and my former best friend Kyle.

I walk up to them and offer a huge smile, Charlotte and Kyle are the only ones who smiles back. Jace just stares with a pained look on his face, I look away from him and open my arms as my sister comes bouncing into them. I pull away and look at her, I haven’t seen her since she visited me in New York last spring. She has defiantly changed since then, she has happiness in her eyes for once and I know that either Kyle or Jace is giving it to her. I’m leaning toward Jace as he won’t take his arm off of her so I awkwardly hug her trying my best not to touch Jace.

“Char! Quit hoggin’ her!” Kyle whines, Charlotte giggles and moves away leaning back into Jace. Kyle picks me off the group and twirls me around, I didn’t expect this as I left town without a goodbye to Kyle but thinking about it. Kyle has never held a grudge.

Staring at the two men in front of me brings back so much.

“Scarlett! Be a babe and go get my car fixed,” my mom calls up to me, I’m in front of the mirror while combing my wet hair. I see the annoyance on my face when my mom says this, my mom always has me doing stuff she could easily do herself. I sigh as I place down my brush and walk into my room picking up the clothes I sorted out for today: pale jeans and a worn hoodie. I run down the stairs while tying my hair with an elastic band. I see my mom snuggling on the sofa with a box of tissues and the Lifetime network on the television.

I cross my arms and look down at her shaking my head, “Mom, I thought you said you were going to get the car fixed on Tuesday,”

She waves her hand telling me to stop talking and her eye brows are furrowed in deep concentration as she watches the a stupid episode of a stupid show that I’ve never heard of. I sigh again and pick up her pair of keys from the key ring and walk out of the house. When I go out I hear the sound of a lawn mower and I look over to see a hot guy mowing his lawn. He looks up and catches my gaze, starts grinning then pulls up his hand and waves to me.

It’s been a while since I last saw him, two weeks ago to be exact when I first moved into this place. When we were getting out of the car admiring the house he was entering his and I almost fell to my knees at how hot he is. I haven’t left the house yet, just laying around with my mom and watching stupid movies or getting on the Internet checking my Facebook and watching everyone else having fun while I’m just sitting around bored. School starts next Monday and I haven’t met anyone just yet. I’m even lonelier now that Charlotte moved in her dorm last week.

I wiggle my fingers back at him and press the unlock button on my mom’s little red car that screams my mom. The guy cuts the mower off and walks over towards me, I almost die when I realize that he’s not wearing a shirt due to the blazing heat which is making me sweat underneath the large hoodie. Why did I decide to wear this outfit again looking like an complete idiot? He finally gets to me and has a huge smile on his face, “Well hi there,”

“Um, h-hi,” I say nervously, running a hand through my hair as I always do when I’m nervous.

We stand looking at each other for a moment before he sticks his hand out in front of him, “Kyle,”

I look at his outstretched hand and smile as I place mine in his, “Scarlett, but I only answer to Scar,”

“You sound like my best friend Lacy,” Kyle chuckles, moving his hand away from mind and dipping it in his back pocket. I can’t help but to think that if he does that all of the time I touched his butt. I blush at my track of thoughts and look away from him. I hear him chuckle again before asking, “How old are you?”

“Seventeen,” I answer, curling my ends of my hair with my finger. I look back up to see a smile take over his face.

“That means that you will be at the high school,” Kyle nods, a smile still on his face, I begin to wonder exactly why he’s smiling isn’t he like nineteen like my sister? He notes my confused look and says, “I’m an senior,”

My eyes bug out of the sockets as I stare at him more closely, I can’t help but ask, “You’re in high school”

Kyle raises a brow which leads me into back tracking, “I mean, you look really...uh... older because...umm, yeah, I have to go...”

I quickly turn and walk to the red car which is like a death trap because what’s wrong with it is that is randomly stops and if I’m driving and if I’m hit I will sue my mom.

“Uh, Scar?” I hear Kyle say. My name on his lips send shivers down my spine, I turn around and see him awkwardly standing there with his hands in his front pockets this time, “I get that a lot. That I’m older. It’s because I failed the second grade when my parents got divorced,”

I blink and stare at him, “You didn’t have to tell me that,”

A smile finds its way on his lips and he shrugs while saying, “I wanted to,”

I can’t help but smile back at him. A door was slammed closed a few houses down which was his house. A really hot guy came rushing out while running his hand through his blonde hair almost making me faint as I see his V line and abs as he shirt rides up from his hands-through-hair motion. Okay, I thought Bay View guys didn’t have tans but as I look at this god yards down making his way to a beat up hair I can’t help but notice his tanned skin. He looks around before he opens the car down, his eyes land on me and I think I’m about to make a fool of myself and run over there to attack him or something but of course my feet stay planted on the ground but my mind? It goes wondering.

“SCARLETT!” Kyle yells stepping into my view of hot guy, I gasp as I realize that he has been calling my name for a while now judging by the traces of irritation in his voice. I discretely look over Kyle’s shoulder to see the guy wink and jump into his car closing the door tightly behind him. I look over my shoulder to make sure no chick is out running or something but no one is there well except for the elderly couple strolling down the other side of the street.

He winked at me.

“SCARLETT!!” Kyle waves his arms around trying his best to get my attention. Poor guy. I smile sheepishly and look over my shoulder at the car.

“I have to get going,” I say.

“Right,” he grumbles looking down at his feet before sighing and looking over in the direction of the car of the god which is now turning left.

I frown and touch his arm lightly, “Are we okay?”

“We...” he says slowly, finally that breathtaking smile comes back onto his face and he nods, “Yeah, of course! Well see you on Monday,”

I nod, “Right, Monday!”

He nods once more before taking me by surprise and scooping me up in a bear hug. I laugh and instantly snuggle into him and enjoy his warmth. He sets me down and smiles down warmly at me. Everything about Kyle is...warm.

“Kyle? Do you know where an Auto shop is?” I ask, saving me from pulling out that huge old phone book my mom has in her car. It takes ages to find anything.

Kyle’s smile fades but he tells me, “Larson’s Auto, take a left then a right and it’s on main street in the center of town. You won’t miss it,”

I smile, open up my arms for him to give another hug because I love the feel of his warm bare chest against mine. I blush as that thought crosses my mind. “I already feel like were best friends,” I say, pulling back and looking up at him.

“Not yet but I feel it coming,” Kyle jokes, pulling away and walking back across the yards, I watch him walk for a moment before feeling like a creeper and walk back to my mother’s car. Like Kyle says, Larson’s Auto is hard to miss with a huge sign on the top of the small building. I park and walk inside, I lean against the counter as I wait for someone to come out.

“How may I help you?”

The words are whispered onto my skin through my blonde locks of hair, I look over to see the tan god that winked at me.

“Can you just take me to Ava’s?” I ask Charlotte, picking up my suitcase but Kyle snatches it from me and carries it. I give him a thankful smile which he waves off, I look back at Charlotte whose looking at me with a frown on her face.

“I wanted to talk,” she says slowly.

I cross my arms, “Then. Talk.”

I don’t mean to sound rude but I really don’t want to be around Jace right now or ever. Kyle sends a look my way noting my rudeness, it’s nice to see that we still have our silent talking thing down even though I’ve been gone.

“Well,” Charlotte says, looking at Jace who is still looking at me weird. I’m wondering if he’s thinking about us years ago. Charlotte sighs, “Well, to start with Jace and I are together,”

I roll my eyes, “Okay, I’m not blind, I can clearly see that,”

Charlotte giggles nervously, “Right. Can you see that we’re engaged too?”

I try to not let the shock register on my face but it’s impossible, I look down at her hand and there is indeed a beautiful giant ring on her finger. She jumps up and down an excited look on her face. “And...I’m pregnant!”

I look at her like she’s crazy, “‘Kay, can we get going now?”

Charlotte looks at me like she disappointed by my dismissal but nonetheless points us in the direction of her car. The drive to my cousin’s apartment on top of Tom’s Coffee House is long and silent which is crazy because it’s only like a five minute drive. I say my goodbyes and roll my suitcase behind me as I go into the coffee shop. People give me weird looks, I’m sure it’s out the norm for random chicks to come into a coffee shop with a huge suitcase. I laugh to myself as they probably think I’m a terrorist and I'm going to bomb poor Bay View. In. My. Dreams.

“Scarlett Marie White?” I hear a cheery voice say, I look over to see Ava standing there. He bright red hair in a high ponytail, her bright blue eyes really showing with the new hair. I was there when she changed it, took her to my favorite hair salon in New York. She smiles at me and throws her arms around my shoulders hugging me tightly.

“Ava Isabel White?” I tease back, pulling away and gripping her shoulders tightly and scanning her outfit. As always she looks great, wearing a short black skirt and floral top. We are grabbing people’s attention with this whole scene which Ava notices so she grabs my hand and takes us through the shop to the back staircase which leads to her apartment.

“Is it true?” Ava asks, closing the apartment door shut behind us and grinning at me like a mad man. I give her a strange look as I place down my suitcase. I take the time to scan the place. Dark brown carpet, light brown walls, dim lightening, it’s all really comforting. I smile as I walk to the dark leather sofa and plant myself on it.

“What are you talking about, Ava?” I ask, picking up a random magazine from the coffee table. Ava jumps on the sofa beside me and takes the magazine from my hands and flashes through it until she lands on a page. I look at her and her eyes go wide, indicating for me to read it.

‘She was so beautiful,’ Seth Greene tells TweenMagazine. ‘She is beautiful. I slept with her once and I expected more as I fell for her that night. When I came to her home the next day, she was on to someone else. I wouldn’t call her actions slutty, but I would call it...bold. Courage. Only someone bold would have the guts to keep moving forward and to never look back. She goes by the name of Scarlett.”

My mouth drops open as I read with wide eyes, “Why is he in magazines? He’s just an author,”

“A hot bestselling author!” Ava squeals, then sighs dreamily. “Who knew that your player ways would pay off! Scarlett! You’re in a magazine,”

“There are like a billion Scarlett’s’ in the world.” I say in return, getting up and walking to her fridge. I haven’t ate since dinner with some hot shot last night. “Ava, what do you have to eat in here?”

“There’s left over pizza,” Ava suggests, walking up behind me and leaning against the door frame of the kitchen shaking her head at me. “You’re an amazing whore Scarlett,”

I smile at her not ashamed at all by this title. I can get any guy I want. I open the pizza box and pull out a cold slice. I take a bite before saying over the pizza, “Thanks,”

Her nose wrinkles and says slowly, “Ew.”

I shrug and hip check the fridge door to close it.

“So we have to go out tonight,” I say to my cousin.

“No, not going to happen,” she says firmly.

“I can’t believe I let you drag me into this!” Ava shouts over the thumping music," I just shrug and pull her to the dance floor. We dance for hours and I can tell Ava is having fun. Maybe she should have bit more fun. I pull Ava to the bar and we sit on the stools as we wait for the bartender.

“Can I buy you ladies a drink?” a cute guy asks, more toward Ava than me and she totally buys it giggling at him and smiling widely. I smile and leave them to it walking over to the bartender.

“Sex on the beach, please,” I say flirtatiously, twirling a blonde lock around my pointing finger. The guy looks up and I then notice that he’s really hot. Longish black curly hair, striking gray eyes and toned body, most defiantly my type. I turn my flirting up a notch, “I wait until the first date is over but for you it can be an exception,”

He looks shocked for a second but recovers quickly and smiles, “On the house,”

I smile back and I feel my heart flutter in my chest as our eyes meet with the excitement of getting another guy. I flirt with him all night before he finally tells me that his shift is over, he ushers me to the dance floor and we grind against each other. I can feel the want building inside of me as he grips my hips and pulls me closer. I lose track of time with us dancing and before I know it he tells me that it’s four in the morning asking me if I want go home with him. I smile and nod, he takes my hand in mine and I know what’s coming next.

“Why didn’t you leave?” He asks in the morning, wrapping his arm around me and I look over my shoulder at him and smile. I’ve never stayed before but I want him so much that I can’t just have him for one night.

“Why don’t we be like...sex buddies?” I ask seriously, sitting up and pulling the white sheets around me.

He shakes his head, “That’s bound to end with someone getting hurt,”

I pout at him, running my hand through his dark mane curls. “It’s just sex,”

He stares at me for a long while, “Look, you don’t even know my name! If you figure out who I really am you will run and that would hurt me,”

I sigh and extend my hand to him, his serious face falls as he looks at my hand and it replaced with an amused one, he grabs my hand and I shake it, “I’m Scarlett,”

He sighs, “I’m Logan...and I got in a car crash that killed my best friend,”

I stare at him and slowly a smile takes over my face, “What does that have to do with sex?”

He stares back at me and smiles. He tackles me and says slowly, “I don’t know,”

“Well get on with it, sex buddy,” I tease.

His handsome face grins wickedly, “As you wish,”

Nights pass and every night I’ve been with Logan. I know his apartment so well that I can call it my own. Logan’s lying on my stomach as I run my fingers through his hair. Music is playing lowly from his iPod doc, the sun slowly rises with Logan and I watching it from the large bed. I feel so comfortable and at peace. Logan makes me feel this way.

“Have you ever been heartbroken, Scar?” Logan asks slowly.

I look down at him to see him still looking at the sun set. The sun showing me his handsome features as I stoke his hair. “Yes,”

“Tell me,” he breathes.

I look at him. He wants me to open more than my legs for him. I find myself opening my mouth and saying, “I was seventeen...”

I can’t help but to shiver and he chuckles at this then stepping in front of me, smiling down at me. I look anywhere but him, I’m really not good with guys that are as hot as him I will faint in front of him if he gets any more closer to me. I take a deep breath on my eye’s journey, they land on my mother’s red little car that remarkably made it here without stopping the middle of the road. I look back at the guy to see him now smirking down at me, “Um, I need a car fixed,”

He runs his fingers through hair as he steps behind the counter and asks more about the car which I answer. I look down to see him writing down what I’m saying, his handwriting is really hard to understand if I didn’t know what I just said I’d probably not know what that scribble is. We finish and he looks up at me with a smile, “So what’s your name,”

I look down at my worn converse before looking back up at him and smile a bit before saying, “Scarlett,”

“Scarlett,” he repeats, leaning into the counter so that his face is only inches from mine. My name sounds amazing rolling off of his tongue. He leans even closer and I think my breathing is defiantly getting labored making me sound horrible I’m sure. He kisses me on the cheek and the feel of his soft lips against my skin is the best feeling in the world. He breaths onto my skin, “It’s nice to meet you, Scarlett,”

“JACE!” a female’s voice shouts, making us jump apart, a girl with tattoos up her arm and a blue jumpsuit comes out, dirt on her face or is that oil? She has long dark hair which is in a high ponytail. She stops when she sees the proximity of Jace (I just got) and I, she sighs and says, “You can take your break, I was going to say,”

“Thanks,” Jace says slowly, he doesn’t take his eyes off of me while addressing her, the girl rolls her eyes and give me a look. Pity maybe? He offers me his hand and I’m taken aback but smile while sliding my hand in his. He tells the girl about my mother’s car and she give a nod asking me for keys and I give her the spare one my mom had ordered me to give days ago. He ushers us out of the auto shop and walks us into the parking lot. He stops us and hold both of our hands in his and looks into my eyes, those blue eyes staring into mine makes me feel like the only girl in the world. I feel like such a cheese ball for that thought running through my head. He leans close to me, “Would you be upset with me if I kiss you?”

I gasp, never has a guy wanted to touch me nonetheless kiss me, there must be something in the Bay View water. I notice that he’s still watching and waiting patiently, “No of course not,”

Jace has magic lips.
