I never thought the day would come when I would have to say goodbye to my two best friends I've known since kindergarten and shared a neighborhood with in Cincinnati, Ohio. I always thought I would stay in my hometown forever, sharing an apartment and going to college with the people I grew up with and learned to love. Charlie, typical cute nerd boy you have to befriend. Ebony, fun bubbly girl you can't resist. That leaves me, the quiet shy girl you can't help but feel sorry for. We all had something the other didn't. And that's why we were perfect.

My mom and dad met at a random college party and had a one night stand, the result being me. My dad disappeared with no word at all, leaving my mom pregnant and lonely at 19. She dropped out of college and went to Cosmetology School instead.

After 14 years of not having a father, he shows up at the house my mom and I have been living in all my life. How he found it, I will never know. It was always just me and her, and quite frankly that was the way I liked it. Even though I was always the "girl with no dad" when I was little, it didn't bother me one bit. My mom and I were always close because of that, so how could I complain?

2 years later, my parents got married. Talk about late timing, hey? That was about the time I was dragged away from my best friends and forced to move all the way to Colorado Springs, Colorado. I never made friends like Charlie and Ebony, but I wasn't one of those loners either. I, of course, kept in contact with those two. We talked at least once a week throughout the 2 years I was away. In a few days, I will be driving to Ohio University, while sharing an apartment with my two best friends. Just like we have been dreaming since we were little.

"Keaghan, if you don't call me every single day, I will drive all the way to Ohio personally and kick your little butt." Well, that was my mother for you.

"Mom, don't worry. I promise I will, just like I have been ever since I made the decision to go."

I feel horrible for leaving my mom in Colorado with my dad all by themselves, but I intended to follow my dreams. And I will do just that.

After what seemed like hours of crying and hugging my mom, I finally found the strength to pull away. I really didn't think it would be this hard, but I guess I was wrong. Now, we would have to see if I can make it miles away from my her for 4 years. Yeah, right.

I give my dad a quick hug and hop in my car full of all the things I need and want for my big and exciting college life. I guess you could say that my dad and I never really developed a good relationship over the 2 years. I don't really know what he was expecting, but you really can't blame me. You can't just pop up in a kid's life and expect it to be perfect, I guess.

After saying my last goodbyes, I start driving. In a couple days, I will be with my two best friends, and that's all I ever wanted.

After the horribly long drive and stops in motels, I am finally Cincinnati. I will be staying at Ebony's house until we are fully moved into our new apartment together. Driving down the roads of my neighborhood is the one of the best feelings in the world. Words can't even begin to describe how much I have missed this place. Every single one of my favorite memories have took place in Cincinnati, and, of course, with the best friends people could only wish they had.

As soon as I reach Ebony's house, I see her and Charlie sitting on her huge porch. I can't help but let out a little squeal of excitement. They basically look exactly the same as the last time I saw them two years ago, two very long years ago, I must say. I pull into their drive and rush out the car door.

"Ebony Charlotte Wittman!" I yell in delight and run over to her.

"Keaghan Meredith Tate!" She yells and practically jumps into my arms.

This might as well be our signature greeting from now on. After years of hugging eachother, I let go and see Charlie standing there grinning, waiting for his turn.

I hurry over to him and hug him, squeezing the life out of him. Is it just me, or did he add some muscle onto his rather scrawny arms?

"How was the drive?" He says in between laughs.

I let go. "Ugh, don't get me started. Long and horrible are my only words to describe it."

"Well, I know I couldn't wait to see you," Ebony states happily.

I have to laugh. "Me either, Ebbs."

"So, are you hungry? Thirsty? Tired? You can go rest if you want." Ebony always talked rather fast.

"Ebony, as much as I love you, your fast talk drives me insane," Charlie says fast, making fun of her. I laugh at my friends, who haven't changed a bit.

"No Ebony, but I'm dying to see the apartment. Let's go!"

"Ooooo okay! I'll go get my purse!"

"She's still as hyper as I remember," I say to Charlie after Ebony went inside.

"Oh, I know. I don't know how I managed."

"You look different," I accuse Charlie, narrowing my eyes and scanning over him, trying to figure out what he did to himself.

"Do I?" Charlie grins, laughing. I always loved his smile, it always made him look so innocent.

"Mhm!"

"Okay lovelies, let's get going! Keaghan, your gonna love it!" Ebony says happily, skipping down the stairs. Charlie and I shake our heads and laugh, following our crazy friend.
