The Story of Us: Amanda and Caleb

Novel By: DaynaMayna

The Story of Us
I looked out the window of my Corpus Christi beach house, and observed the family moving in next door. They looked like the typical perfect American family: A Father, Mother, Son, and Daughter.
The family lugged boxes out of the U-Haul truck, and into the house.
I had always wondered when someone was going to finally move in next door. I mean the house has been vacant for almost 5 years. It was the biggest house on the street, more than twice the size of mine.
“Amanda.” My mom said stepping into my room. “What’s up?” I asked turning away from the window and facing her.
“I’m sure you noticed the new Nabors.” My mother started. I quickly nodded my head. “Well, your father and I decided to invite them over for dinner. They have 2 kids, a daughter who’s in the 6th grade like you, and a son who’s in the 8th.” My mother finished.
“So…this means…?” I asked awkwardly. “Just dress nice and be downstairs in the dining room at 5:30.” My mother replied with a smile.
I walked down the stairs 5:30 sharp, running my fingers through my blonde hair, and tugging on my pink lace shirt. As soon as I stepped into the dining room, (which was usually only use for Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas) I was greeted by the new family.
“Amanda this is the Saunders’s” my father said, then gesturing to each one of the individually. “Paul, Nancy, Caleb, and Sky.” They all gave me a little wave.
“Um..I’m Amanda.” I replied pulling a smile.
As the parents started making random small talk about school, my eyes fell on Sky. She was a good few inches taller than me. She was flat out tall for her age, but she held her height gracefully. She had long black hair, and stunning blue eyes. Overall, Sky was pretty intimidating.
Then I looked over to her brother, Caleb. It took all the power in my body to keep my mouth from falling open, I couldn’t help but stare. He was tall, just like his sister. He also had the same blue eyes, and black hair. But that’s when the resemblance stopped. Caleb…was just flat out…Attractive!
While I was checking out his eyes for the 100th time in 5 minutes, Caleb caught me staring. I turned away quickly as I felt color rush to my cheeks.
“Let’s eat.” My father boomed, rubbing his hands together.
Soon enough me and Sky clicked, and instantly became best friends.
The next few years were filled with sleepovers ad weekend trips to six flags with Sky.
But also me gawking at Caleb, admiring how cute he is, and laughing at all his corning jokes, Ignoring his countless remarks about all the stupid things me and Sky likes, like Hannah Montana, and The Jones Brothers.
All these years, I’ve been trying to get Caleb to stop seeing me as his kid sisters best friend.
I was freshmen and high school now and pretty grown since the say we first meet.
I’m in love with my best friend’s brother, and I’m determined to get him to love me too.

The Story of Us

*Warning: Cussingh*

"Sky hurry up! We're going to miss the entire movie!" I yelled walking into the Saunders's house. "Once second! I have to finish curling my hair." Sky hollered back.

I sauntered into kitchen to grab a bottle of water, but stopped in my tracks when I noticed Caleb, his hair scuffed up, head lying on the table.

I quietly walked up to him, and sat in a chair across from him. I reached across the table, lightly touching his arm. Her jerked up. His eyes were red, and he was wearing the same this he wore yesterday, except his clothes were all wrinkled.

"Caleb what's wrong?"A frown quickly formed on his face. "Nothing…I'm just sick." He mumbled. He started to get up but I quickly grabbed his arm.

"C'mon Caleb, we've known each other for years. Don't lie to me." I said pulling a smile.

He sighed "I sort of possibly… got Hallie.. um pregnant." He muttered under his breath. I felt my jaw drop. "What?!" I exclaimed loudly. Caleb quickly placed his hand over my mouth.

"Ssh! I still haven't told my parents or Sky." He whispered.

I yanked his hand off me. "Damnit!Caleb! How could you let this happen?!"

"Well I didn't always use)protection." He muttered letting his head drop. "What am I supposed to do?" He asked right as Sky walked in.

"I'm ready!" She smiled, completely oblivious to the situation.

"I'll talk to you later, Caleb." I told him, following Sky out of the door.

*Caleb's Point of View*

"So you wanted to talk?" I said to Hallie, motioning for her to sit on the couch.

I sat across from her, and studied her. He face was make-up less, and she had huge bag under her eyes just like me.

"Um yeah about a couple of things actually." Hallie held a tight smile on her face. "First of all, I have a um pregnancy test. And I was hoping we could wait for the results…together." Her voice was quivering.

"Sure if that's you want to do." I replied.

"And their one more thing…please don't get mad." Hallie said not looking me in the eyes. "There's a possibility that if I'm pregnant, that the baby…isn't yours-"

"What?" I said clenching my fist.

"I sort of hooked up with Chris a few times." She muttered forming in her eyes.

"Wait Chris? Do you mean Chris Jones??" I yelled towering over her.

"Yes Chris Jones." She sobbed refusing to look at me.

"Let me get this-fucking0straight. You cheated on me with one of my best0fucking friends, and might be pregnant with his baby!?" I yelled my body shaking with anger.

She slowly shook her head, word refused to come out of her mouth.

"Get out of my house." I whispered, turning away from her.

"Caleb please.." She sobbed grabbing onto my arm.

"Get the)hell out!" I screamed, turning and yanking her off me. "We don't Hallie! Done! Call me in nine months and let me know if im a dad!" I growled.

She scrambled out of my house. I looked out the window, watching her drive away in the distance.

*Amanda's Point of View*

I knocked on Caleb's bedroom door. It had been a week since we last talked. A week since I found out Caleb possibly knocked up Hallie.

"What?"He yelled.

"Um it's me, Amanda." The door flung open a few seconds later. He half smiled when he saw me. "Hi Amanda" he said pulling me into a hug. When he pulled away, I saw his hand, all bandaged up.

"What happened to your hand?" I gasped, grabbing it. He winced pulling it away from me. "It's a long story." He mumbled. "A long story I want to hear." I replied. I grabbed his hand, and led him to his bed, and sat down next to him.

"Fine. Well Hallie came over the other day and said she had a pregnancy test. Then she told me the baby might not even be mine. She said it could be one of my best friends' Chris. I went psycho on her and broke up with her." Caleb said. "And I was so mad I sort of punched a hole in my bathroom wall." He added.

"Oh my gosh Caleb I so sorry." I pulled him into a hug.

"She texted me last night, telling me it was a false alarm. Thank God, because I never want to deal with her again."

I let out a little laugh. "Well now that you're single, is there any other girl you have your eye on?"

"Actually yeah there is, but she already has a boyfriend, and either way she's kind of off limits. So I guess for know I'm going solo."

Well now Hallie's out of the way ;). Anyways I have to go back to school tomorrow. Spring Break I loved you while you were here, and will miss you while you're gone.
