The Story of Us
"Miller you're late." Hallie yelled as I pushed through the school's gym doors. I couldn't help but roll my eyes at her. I was only five minutes late, big deal. And the fact that she cheated on Caleb had me steamed.
"I'm talking to you." She sneered, as I tossed my bag on the floor with all the others. "Sorry I don't talk to dumb0sluts." I felt the words slip out of my mouth.
"What did you say?" She seethed her face turning beet red. All the cheerleaders on the team turned staring at us.
"I really don't think you want to repeat myself in front of the whole team." I spat, crossing my arms over my chest.
She walked up to me getting inches from my face. "Try me."
"Lets see. I believe I said I don't talk to dumb0sluts, which is exactly what you are." I said, feeling a smirk form on my face.
"And why am I a dumb)slut. You're the one who decided to some into practice late, and then start0shit with me."
"Well Hallie you're the one who decided to be a0slut and cheat on Caleb!" I paused for a second looking around. "And guess what guys, Hallie and a little pregnancy scare recently."
Gasps spread around like fire in the gym. Hallie's face turned ghostly white.
"Caleb was practically kiss the floor when he found out you weren't actually pregnant. He said he couldn't imagine being attached to you for the rest of his life." I could see tears well up in Hallie's eyes.
"I just don't how someone would possibly cheat on Caleb. He sweet, charming, understanding, and the best guy a girl could ask for." With that I reached for my bag on the floor, and stormed out of the gym my adrenaline rushing.
When I got home, I changed into my comfiest shorts, and favorite sweatshirt. I stepped into my beach back yard, letting the warm sand go in between my toes. I closed my eyes breathing in the ocean air.
Maybe I had gone too far today in cheer practice today. I mean I left Hallie in tears. I was just so mad, how could someone do that to Caleb?
I could hear the sound of a guitar being played in the distance. I opened my eyes, searching for where the music was coming from. My eyes landed on Caleb, who was sitting in the sand, over by his house. I slowly walked over to him. When he noticed me, he abruptly stopped playing.
"I forgot you played." I said, looking down at him.
"Yeah well I haven't had a lot of time to play in a while." He replied a small smile dangling on his lips.
"Mind if I sit?" I asked. "Not at all." He put his guitar to the other side of him.
"I heard what happened at your cheer practice. Thanks." Caleb said looking out to the ocean.
For a while we just sat there, watching the sun go over the horizon.
"You know what I've realized?" Caleb said looking over at me. "Breaking up with someone is hard, even if you know it's for the best. Your normal is completely gone. And then you only have two choices one what to do next. Either you wallow in your misery holding onto the past, or you make a new normal.
I stared at Caleb, knowing her was 100 percent right.
