I stepped off the bus with my head down, looking at the floor. I didn't want to look up in case everyone had their eyes on me. It was my first day at a new school and I was dreading every moment of it. I heard people whispering behind me, I knew I was the subject of their conversation.

When I finally lifted my head up, thankfully everyone had started to walk through the big gates at the front of the school. Someone from behind me, gave me a push and I went head over heels, everything out of my bag came flying out all over the ground.

"Ow, what the hell was that for?" I snapped, looking at a group of boys and girls, staring at me with big grins on their faces. A fairly good-looking boy from the group said something to his friends and they scurried off, then the boy walked over to me and helped me up.

"I'm so sorry about my friends, they're always horrible to the new kids, anyway, are you hurt?" When he spoke, the sound of his voice made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

"A bit but I'll live, it's just a cut, what's your name?"

"I'm Adam, how about you?"

" I'm Kelly, what year are you in Adam?"

"Year 10, you?"

"Same, sorry about all the questions but could you please take me to the main reception?"

"Sure, looks like you need a plaster as well."

"Thanks Adam and you're right, I could do with a plaster."

He gave me back my bag and told me to follow him. When we got to reception, butterflies started to appear in my stomach. I had never been so nervous in all my life.

"Hello, erm, this is Kelly and she's starting today, have you got her timetable and could she have a plaster for the cut on her leg please?"

"Hold on, I've only got one pair of hands you know!" The receptionist was quite chubby with flame-red hair and lots of piercings on her right ear. She gave me my timetable, followed by a plaster.

"Here, let me put it on for you."

"Thank you."

After he put the plaster on my leg, he said he had to get to form so I just nodded and said thank you, again.

I had to ask the receptionist where my form room was and she said it was at the bottom of the corridor to my left.

I knocked lightly on the door and the teacher gestured for me to come in.

"Hello, I think this is my form room, I'm not quite sure." I felt like an idiot. Everyone in the room had their eyes on me, one person in particular. It was Adam.

"Oh yes, of course, you must be Kelly, am I right?"

"Yes that's right, where do I sit..?"

"I'm Mr Daniels and you can take a seat next to Adam at the front here for now, we'll get you sorted next week."

Adam sort of gave a little smile and then moved his bag off the chair next to him. The girl behind him raised her eyebrows and pulled a face at me. She probably fancied him or something like that.

"Kelly, what a surprise, what lessons have you got today then?"

I took my timetable from my bag and handed it to him.

"Oh wow, you're with me all morning, I'll walk you to class if you want?"

"That would be great."

The bell went and everyone stood up and raced for the door. I knew that today would be fine. I had Adam to help me if I got lost. Even if I hadn't of met Adam this morning, surely somebody would have volunteered to show me around. So far, everyone seemed nice enough and friendly enough. I was nervous for first lesson though because I was the new girl who wears whatever her mum picks out for her. Yes, my mum doesn't want me to grow up therefore she still thinks I'm four. It's embarassing really. My life would be over if she ever said anything about me to my friends. Seriously, I would die.
