majesten: chapter one
He had to lead them away somehow. They had been so damn close to learning the location to the rebel’s base- he couldn’t let that happen.
He kept running down that dark street. Houses flying by, trees zoomed out of view, the faint fragrance of roses and dew still clung to the thick humid night time air, he noticed none of these things. His mind was focused on the one mission before him- terminate or be terminated. He looked back towards the few vampires left- the stupid ones who were still following him.
“ you’ll never catch me at this pace boys!” he exclaimed, Showing the utmost cocky smile he could muster. This was the problem with most of oke’s vampires. They couldn’t control emotions- not anger, not sadness, nor loneliness. It was one of their few weaknesses. He chuckled under his breath- thank goodness he had total control of his emotions-and thank goodness he didn’t have a “girl” to change that.
Almost effortlessly, he jumped high into the air. For a split second he realized they had stopped chasing him. He panicked. He had just made the biggest mistake of his whole life. Immediately, five arrows dug into his skin; one in his torso, two in his legs, and the two others his shoulder and upper arm. The impact had been so well met, he flew backwards, crashing into a nearby wall and landed on a balcony a story beneath it. “damn,” he muttered. He was paralyzed, the vampires had drenched the tips of the arrows with poison. He winced as he tried to get up. His muscles tensed.
“who’s there?” he herd a soft voice murmur. Damn, he had caused more innocent to be intertwined in this damn war. The window in front of him creaked open.
“ is anyone here?” the voice whispered, a little more loudly this time. A small gasp could be herd. She had seen him. “Nirah, wake up! I’m going to need some-’ the rest of her words were droned out as he mustered the rest of his strength to whisper a small protective charm, before blanking out.

The young man woke up with a start. He winced as he reached for his wounds. No arrows, he noticed. He looked towards his right. A young maiden was sitting on a angel-white chair, her head resting on the side, and she was sleeping. He drew in his breath sharply. He didn’t want to wake her up- much less if she was the one who tended to his wounds.
His wounds- he looked down at his bandaged torso. She had done an extraordinary job that’s for sure. As far as he could tell, the arrows had been removed with a quick and sift action, with little to no mess and the bandages were so tightly wrapped. He looked back at the maiden.
Her hair had been tied back. It seemed almost like a sin to see such luscious hair pulled back. He gave a dreamy sigh. Her skin was glowing, her brown eyebrows were like perfect sashes over a peach-white wall. Her creamy complexion left him wordless. The more he looked at her, the more-
“well then, about time you woke up” Nirah Leone said as she watched the man. She had only been in the room for a few seconds but already she was worried about the outcome of his “appearance”. she studied him curiously. She didn’t even know his name. her forehead scrunched up- creating worry lines.
“its Daniel zendali,” he said, he was quiet sure of what she was thinking about. He then worried for a moment, wondering if it was okay to reveal his real name. he then herd the young maiden give a small groan as she turned in her sleep. Daniel turned back to face her, giving the smallest smile.
Nirah noticed this. She smiled as well. At least this stranger was courteous, “well Daniel- I see you also met my sister~ Azaria. She wanted to be awake when you came to consciousness but- as you can well see. She didn’t make it” she said. Daniel’s smile widened. She, this Azaria, waited for him. He slowly got out of the small bed.
“do u need anything to be done?” he smirked carelessly. If they had already done so much for him. He needed to do something to pay them back. Despite the pain he was in, he wanted to help them.
“I.. well,” Nirah started, she had never been in this predicament before. She truly wished Azaria would hurry and wake up. She bit her lip. Daniel shouldn’t have even been moving- his wounds could reopen. But before she could respond correctly, he was out of the room.
Azaria rubbed her eyes as she made her way downstairs. Was last night a dream? The scene kept playing in her head. No, it wasn’t a dream. It was real~ but were was the young man?
“morning” a silky voice said as she made her way into the main room. She looked at him. He was handsome when he wasn’t withering in pain. He milky gray eyes seemed to absorb the surroundings and danced with a lively light. His dark brown hair hung down, barely meeting his shoulders before being tied back in an utmost lazy manner. His tan skin had that slight tone of white in it that made it irresistible to look at. She was so absorbed in his face that didn’t notice he wasn’t wearing a shirt- just those bandages. She blushed, suddenly realizing it- perfectly toned muscles and-
“you really shouldn’t be out and about after an injury like that.” she said automatically. She took a few seconds to compose her thoughts again. Daniel looked at her, slightly amused at her distant expression as she had looked at him. He chuckled and continued to read the small book in his hands- he had finished cleaning the house a few minutes ago.
“I’ve had worse. Of course,” he replied, “those were just arrows- nothing serious.” he licked his finger and turned a page. “did u know this is one hell of a boring book?” Azaria frowned. Why was it always men who were careless?
“it will become serious if you don’t go back upstairs and rest,” Azaria scolded. Daniel rolled his eyes and continued reading the book. She gave up. She couldn’t help but worry- yet if he thought he was going to be okay, well… that’s his problem. Azaria turned and walked into the kitchen, leaving Daniel smirking to himself.
Azaria slowly brought herself to a halt when she reached the kitchen. Why had she?…why? She shook her head to clear her thoughts. It was useless to think like that.
Daniel had given up on reading the book and was pacing back and forth across the room. His facial expression reminded her of a pouty child whom didn’t have anything to do. Azaria giggled as she sat on the window still.
“there’s some tea in the kitchen if you want any,” she said. Daniel stopped in mid-stride, something caught his eye.
His brows furrowed and he kneeled next to her. “Azaria, stay still for me.” her body tensed under his touch. He looked into her eyes. “I’m not going to harm you.” she nodded and took a deep breath. She knew what he had seen.
Gritting his teeth, Daniel pulled down her sleeve. His eyes widened as he saw dark purple handprints running from her collar bone to her elbow. He felt Azaria’s hand push his arm away.“
who did this to you?” Daniel questioned.
“no one” she stammered, a bit too quickly. “and besides-- it practically nothing.” his eyes studied her. Nothing? Goodness gracious! Her whole arm was bruised! Daniel’s eyes furrowed more.
“nothing?” Daniel frowned. Azaria stood up. Daniel, still wondering someone like her had such bruises, grasped her arm and made her look at him. “tell me”
“how am I supposed to trust you?” she asked. His expression softened. His eyes seemed to pierce right though her. She couldn’t help but feel some trust between them two. Daniel squeezed her arm softly.
He smiled comfortingly. “miss, you saved me. The least I can do is worry about you.” he said it so plainly. Azaria faltered under this comment. She gently slid her arm from his grasp. Daniel gazed at her. Her eyes were on the brink of tears and he immediately got up. “I’m so sorry miss.”
As he started to turn away, Azaria grabbed his hand. “no. I’ll tell you” she managed to choke out. He glanced at her hand, then back at her.
“ ok then, miss, who did it?”
“ well… you see, I have a-”
Three hard knocks interrupted her. “so- it seems my dearest did have a visitor last night.” a cold voice came from the hall. Azaria jumped and looked at the man glowering in the doorway.
“ Bladimere” she said in a whisper, “ this man was injured I had to take him in. mother woul-”
“ no one cares about your damn customs, wrench .” Bladimere hissed, raising his hand as if to strike her. Daniel’s eyes flickered from Azaria to this barbarian. He stood defensively in front of Azaria.
“ excuse me sir, but I see you have no right to talk to miss Azaria like that” Daniel muttered darkly. Bladimere smirked.
“ is that so? Well I have some news” he pulled her from behind him and showed her hands where a small diamond ring was on her finger. “-she’s my betrothed” it was then Azaria yanked her hands away and stared up at him.
Daniel couldn’t believe his eyes - just a second ago she had been completely terrified- yet now she had that small flame in her eyes that teased him so. Daniel let his tension subside. He was sure she could take care of this.
“ get out” she said. She had quiet enough with his attitude. “get out of here” she repeated, pointing him towards the door. Bladimere stared at her. He’d never ever seen this side of her. But soon, that small moment of thinking was gone. Bladimere gripped her hand tightly.
“ don’t forget your place Azaria,” he muttered. Azaria winced slightly- if he had his grasp any tighter she was sure he would break her hand. He slowly removed the ring off her finger and placed it in clear sight. “ don’t forget I own you” Azaria gasped slightly.
Daniel gritted his teeth. It became clear that this miserable monster had been abusing her- hell, it could’ve been worse. He felt like beating the damn fool but once again. This was Azaria’s trouble.
Azaria felt tears building in her eyes. What had happened to her bladimere? The sincere one, the courteous one, the one who used to comfort her through storms, the one who used to do everything for her happiness. Why had he changed?
Bladimere froze. Was she…crying? He hadn’t meant to- it hurt him dearly seeing her like this. His first instinct was to console her, at least make her stop. Damn the war making him so emotionless. Why had he have to continue being so cold? Damn his orders, he wanted Azaria to be happy. He had made her weep. A small flicker of apology shone on his face. His mouth opened, merely trying to say something, but he closed it. Clenching his jaw, he knew it was too late anyway to do anything. He let go of her hand and gently placed the ring back, hesitantly, on her finger. It wasn’t fair she was forced to marry him but…
Azaria was left dumbfounded. Had he just- he for once, just once, looked like the old bladimere. Her heart broke. bladimere… she thought. She couldn’t cling to her dignity anymore. She needed comfort and though the hand throbbed with pain. She didn’t think about it. She let sobs escape from her mouth. Tears flowed from her eyes. She felt like a child, weak, and invulnerable.
“Azaria,” Daniel whispered. He was so unsure of what to do. He had only-
Azaria wrapped her arms around him and buried her head in his chest. Daniel couldn’t help but give a slight gasp of shock. He didn’t touch her, he wouldn’t. a small voice went off in his head: you’ve gone too far Daniel…
She kept sobbing. Her heart and her body were shaken up. She didn’t understand. She let go of him and covered her face- as if that was going to stop her crying. Muffled cries reached his ears. Daniel sighed, his face twisted in thought. Regaining composure, he wrapped his arms around her.
“its okay-” he whispered in her ear. Her shoulders shuddered as she drew in ragged breaths. “its going to be ok.” hesitantly, his fingers ran through her hair- something his mother would do to calm anyone down. Azaria wiped her tears, pulled away, and looked into his eyes.
“thank you” she whispered. Her voice shaking. Sullenly, he smiled at her.
“it was no problem miss,” his hand cupped her chin. “maybe it wouldn’t hurt to smile?” Azaria’s lips curved a bit. His eyes were dancing with a light she loved. Nearly giggling, she wiped the tears from her eyes and her smile widened.
“see?” he laughed “was it that hard?”
She giggled “I guess not” she said, poking his nose affectionately. Daniel couldn’t help it- this small maiden was so intriguing to him. But then he caught sight of her bruises again. He gritted his teeth. Bladimere had abused her- hell, it could’ve been worse than what he had witnessed. Anger ran through his veins. His hate was soon diminished by the next question that was about to make him question all his moves.
“Daniel, it’s a little rude but, how did you get hurt?”
Daniel thought for a moment. Should he endanger his secret? Should he lie to this innocent maiden?
Azaria looked up at him, puzzled. The question wasn’t meant for such a long silence. Maybe it was something evil that brought him here. Daniel’s face was in deep thought and so- Azaria took a step back.
“I’ll understand if you don’t tell me”
Daniel looked at her amazed. She would… understand? Daniel smiled, kissed her hand and muttered, “thank you”
