“You want me to just drop you off or stay?” Finn asked looking at me. I looked out the window watching as the planes took off from the airport in front of us.
“I don’t know.” I sighed running a hand loosely through my hair. Finn looked at me. I felt bad. He looked so…sad. He looked amazing today. He had on a plaid shirt that wasn’t buttoned up all the way so you could see the tattoos that graced his skin. His jeans clung to his hips and thighs perfectly. He was mouthwatering. “I’m sorry, Finn.” He shook his head.
“No, it’s alright. I’m just being stupid.” I shook my head. How can I explain this to him?
“It’s not you being stupid. I’m the stupid one.” He smiled at me.
“I have a couple friends that are in town. Why don’t you call me when you want me to pick you? There is a beach a couple blocks down if you want to talk with him.” I leaned over and kissed his cheek.
“Thank you, Finnley.” I opened the car door and got out. “For everything.” He smiled at me.
“I’ll talk to you later.” I walked towards the entrance putting my hands in my pocket. I went to Gate B and sat in one of the chairs and waited playing a game on my phone. The plane came in as I finished making me sit up from my laying position. Zander was one of the first couple of people off the plane. He hasn’t changed much since the last time I’ve seen him. He has that ‘don’t screw with me if you want to live’ look to him. His hair is buzzed short making him look even more dangerous. There is something about his piercing eyes that make you cower away from his icy stare. His face was stone making the people around him clear out of the way so they didn’t have to feel his wrath.
Even Zander’s outfit screams bad-ass. He wears his old leather jacket that makes his shoulders look broader than they already are. He wore his traditional white t-shirt and a pair of wiped jeans carrying his bag over his shoulder. “There’s my girl.” He smiled at me.
“Hey, Z.” I smiled wrapping my arms around his chest. He kissed my head.
“How is my Annie?” He rubbed gently at my back.
“I’ve been better.” He pulled back to look at me. I looked over his shoulder to his one of his men.
“You remember Jon.” I smiled at him as he gave me a smile and a nod.
“I do, Hi Jon.” I winked at him making him laugh.
“And we brought a new one. Liam, Ana. Ana, Liam.” I extended my hand to the young man standing next to Jon. Jon you see, he doesn’t change. His hair is still salt and pepper with the same hard blue eyes that draw you in. He had the amount of muscles as some of the marines that were on base. He looked like he would snap someone like a twig. He probably could snap me like one. But he doesn’t scare me. Jon has been around me for a couple years and I know he is a teddy bear on the inside, to me and his wife. She is one amazing person. They’re perfect for each other. Liam though. He was different he looked smaller than the normal people Zander hired. He has black hair that was falling into his eyes. He gave me a short smile shaking my hand. He wasn’t as built as I thought he’d be.
“Are you going to be working?” I asked Zander squeezing his chest with another hug.
“Just a little. But I’m here for you.” He took my face into his hands. “And we have a lot to go over too.” His fingers gently skimmed the cuts that were healing. “Jon.” I looked over his shoulder as Jon stepped forward and smiled gently at me. “Go get the car from rental.”
“Finn suggested we walk on the beach.” Zander’s eyebrow shot right up. “It’s just a couple blocks down.” He smirked at me.
“Take the car. Go check in at the hotel.” He shoved his bag to Liam making him nod. “Come my Lady.” I giggled at him as he wiggled his eye brow at me. We walked out of the Airport. “You are very Batman-y today.” He smiled at my socks. I shoved him with my elbow.
“I just,” I shook my head.
“It reminds you of him.” He sighed putting his hands in his pockets.
“I had a dream about him last night.” I smiled to myself. “The ones that make you want to cry because you woke up kind.” I sighed.
“Do you want to talk about why you were sitting on a sea wall making your last call?” I looked over at him to see that glint in his eye. The I’m pissed off glint.
“She pushed me and I broke. What do you want me to say? I fucked up. I let her into my head and I should have. It’s my fault.” I shoved my hands into my pocket.
“Ana, you have to calm down.” I shook my head whipping my eyes roughly.
“Everything is crazy right now.” We got to the beach. I took my shoes off and took my socks off. “Lighten up Z.” He rolled his eyes and followed my lead.
“So what’s wrong? You’ve always had a handle on your mother. Or something of that like kind. What has got you so off your axel?” I took a deep breath as we walked towards the water making it splash on my feet. I exhaled loudly. “What’s his name?” we walked down the shoreline.
“It’s Finnley. Danny’s friend’s son.”
“He’s making you squirm. No one makes you squirm, not even me.” Zander Smiled putting his arm around my shoulders.
“He’s an amazing guy, Z. God, he’s perfect.” I closed my eyes shaking my head. “So perfect.”
“Come here.” Zander pulled me over to a part of the beach that was empty. I sat down so the waves splashed at my feet. “What’s wrong?” He asked looking around the beach.
“What am I doing, Zander?” I looked at him.
“You’re being a teenager. What’s so wrong with that?” I put my face in my hands.
“I can’t. I’ll only hurt him. It’s what I always do.” Zander pulled me to him.
“Why are you saying that, Squirt?” I pulled the sleeves of my jacket over my hands.
“That’s all I do.” He pressed his lips to my head.
“That isn’t true. You are a beautiful girl that has had a rough life.” I shoved my hands into his pockets.
“How can I love when I’m afraid?” I felt Zander take a long deep breath. I moved out of his arms.
“Afraid of what, Ana?” I turned to look out into the ocean.
“My past haunting me.” I picked up a seashell that was next to me. I gently rubbed the sand off of the smooth shell.
“Your past can only haunt you if you let it.” I turned the shell over in my hand.
“I can’t help it. I can’t push it away. I already feel terrible about myself for what I do. I can’t push it away anymore.” I looked over at him. “I can’t push him away anymore. I don’t want to.” Zander looked at me. I shook my head. “I feel like I pushed it so far away it’s like he didn’t even exist. And that hurts the most.” I felt the tear roll down my cheek.
“What did I do to make this happen? I pushed the pain away and I forgot about him. What did I do to make him deserve that? To be forgotten?” Zander grabbed my face and forced me to look at him. His face was thunder.
“Don’t you ever think that! He can never be forgotten. I won’t let it happen. You won’t let it happen. It can’t. I will never forget him. Do not say it possible.” I closed my eyes as the tears processed to roll down my cheeks.
“I don’t forget him, Zander. I don’t want to.” I sobbed. He sighed pulling me into his lap rocking me gently.
“Shhh Ana, don’t cry. You are never going to forget him. I know you can’t. I know you, Ana.” He pressed his lips to my head whipping my eyes. “You won’t. I will never let you.” He tucked my head in the crook of his shoulder. “What has got you so worked up? You aren’t usually like this.” I looked at him my jaw wobbling. “It’s that Finn kid isn’t it?” I nodded.
“I like him so much, Z.” He sighed pulling my sweatshirt down as it rode up. “I feel like this could be something.”
“What’s stopping you?” He looked around us like he always does.
“Everything that’s happened.” He looked back at me.
“Don’t let everything that happened stop you from being happy. You’re letting her win. What you have to do is take it in stride, learn from it. Don’t let it ruin you.” I snuggled my head into his shoulder.
“You should give advice professionally.” He started to laugh making his chest shake.
“I’m good. If I was like this with anyone else, I might have to kill them. I only love my Ana.” I pulled back to smile at him.
“You’re my steel man. But to me you’re my teddy bear.” I kissed his cheek.
“Tell anyone and I’ll have to kill you.” He winked. I laughed at him.
“That’s why I love you, Zander.” I pulled my phone out of my pocket.
Finnley**You okay? Tell me any time you’re ready and I’ll pick you up <3***
“Was that him?” He asked rubbing on my back.
“Yeah, he wants to know when I want to get picked up.” I said looking out into the ocean.
“Maybe you should just tell him. If you think you’re going somewhere with your relationship, then you tell him what happened. If he does one thing wrong to you, you tell me. I’ll handle him.” His voice was dangerously serious. I looked over at him. “Don’t try me, I’ll kill him. Marine or not.”
“Please don’t talk like that around me, it scares me.” He sighed pulling out his phone.
“I know, but I’m making sure you know. I will kill anyone who so much as looks at you the wrong way. I’m not letting you get hurt.” I sighed as he clicked away. “Jon, Lagoon Park, Now.”
“You can at least say please.” I smacked him.
“Please.” He said mockingly as he hung up the phone. I shook my head at him.
“You’re okay if I go with him. I’m going to talk to him.” Zander smiled at me.
“Good on you, Baby Doll. I have some work to do. I’ll stop by later.” I nodded sending a text message to Finn
I’m at the beach. I’m ready to talk.
