I waited till after dinner to approach them about the problem. I knew it was going to worry them, but if they trusted me like I thought they did I knew they would understand.
I looked around at the faces sitting in the living room in front of me and sighed. I finally mustered up my courage and turned to them. "Hey guys I need to talk to you."
Every head turned to look at me and I felt myself blush. Kie looked at me and raised his eyebrow. "Everything alright hun?"
I shook my head. Automatically Marek turned off the TV and Mari went into the kitchen and started pouring drinks. I guess in that moment she had it right. She came back a few minutes later and looked like a waitress. She passed the drinks to Kie, Marek and I and then kept the last one for herself.
I sighed. "Well Cherry came by today and asked for my help on something. I turned her down at first since we all decided we wanted nothing else to do with my past Military life. I kept turning her down until she gave me two pieces of information. The first is that Nora was killed and that they are trying to pick us off one by one. The second was the rediculously large amount of cash they are paying for our demise."
It was silence around the room as they all looked at me like I had sprouted a second head and a pair of gills. I scanned the faces in the room and had to stop myself from laughing. "Mari was trying to down her drink in one gulp, Marek had his jaw open to the floor and couldn't find his mouth at all, and Kie, well he couldn't have looked more shocked if I had told him I won the lottery and I didn't remember playing.
Kie was the first to find his voice though. "How much are we talking about?"
I rolled my eyes. "Enough that every assassin in the world is going to look at each of us as eye candy until the other three are dead. Each of us is worth a hundred million. Even Cherry told me that if we weren't sisters she would have taken it. I hate to say it but there is worse news."
Mari got up off the couch and kneeled down in front of me. "What do you mean worse news?"
"Two of the assassins, the two that killed Nora are working on your brother's ranch. I asked to borrow five hands tomorrow and I can promise you only three are going to return. Cherry asked me to check them out. If I don't find the two guys suspicious then they live, but she tracked them in town and then lost them in the yearly hiring that's done at the grounds."
Mari looked at me stunned and stepped back as if I had slapped her. "YOU'RE TELLING ME THAT YOU INVITED ASSASSINS INTO OUR GROUNDS JUST FOR THE SATISFACTION OF KILLING THEM. ARE YOU ABSOULTELY INSANE MOTHER. WHAT ABOUT DAD AND TALIA. HOW COULD YOU DO THAT?"
I grasped her wrist and pulled her into a hug. "Tomorrow I am going to look at them while they help me build the deck. I need to feel out if it is them. If not then Cherry was wrong and they go about their day like nothing happened. Out of the four of us I was always the most intuitive and she asked me to look into it. I can't not do it Mari. If they did kill Nora, something has to be done about it."
They all looked at me for a moment and then Mari stood up. "I guess since we are all dropping news, I better do it as well. Mom... Dad, When Marek goes to the Island for training I am going with him. Not joining the service, but I am going to go to school over there. He and I talked it out and we haven't been seperated for more than a few hours at a time in our whole lives, we can't start now. I think I am also going to go for a nursing program over there. I mean don't get me wrong, I love my photography, but I figure I will keep that as a hobby so I don't lose my love for it."
I looked at her for a moment and then got up and hugged her. "It is your choice my dear and you know I will support whatever you want to do. I am going to miss you both so much. We won't miss any event though, we will both be right there."
Kie looked at me for a moment, before he nodded to the kids. "Hey guys, go upstairs, I wanna talk with your mom really quick. Give us about half an hour and then we are going to want to talk to you again."
They nodded and went upstairs. He looked over at me and then sighed. "You know things haven't gone the best for you since you moved out here. Maybe it is time for a change for the both of us. Goodness knows poor Brook doesn't like it here. What would you think about doing some contract work for the Military and staying close to the kids?"
I thought about it for a moment and let out my breath in a sigh. "I really haven't thought about it much. I would want to talk to Ava, because no matter what I wouldn't want to leave her behind. I thought you said that you didn't want me doing that anymore though?"
He smiled at me. "I was figuring maybe as in doing some training. You and Ava could get those spots with no problem and I think the Military could use some kick ass women teaching these boys what they need."
I shurgged my shoulders. "Can I have a few days to think on it and talk to Ava? I'm not sure what I would be walking into and I'm not sure if she would want to move. It is a good idea though my love, a very good idea. I don't like the idea of him getting deployed but at least if he could get a bit more training at our hands I would feel a bit better about it."
He jumped up off the couch and grasped my hand as he danced me around the room. "If anyone can convince Ava it is for the best, my love it is you."
I danced with him, but hid my head in his shoulder. "I would rather face North Korea."
