It seemed like the night ended without my knowledge as I opened my eyes to see the sun as it streamed in all around me. I looked next to me to see an empty bed where my husband should have been. I looked on the pillow and found a note.
You seemed to have spaced out last night after everything and I don't blame you with everything you have on your mind. I know that things seem tough right now, but if you feel moving isn't the best option let me know. Where ever you want to be is where I call home. I have to go to the auctions again today so I left early. Don't worry everything will be fine, we always make things work out for the best. Take care of yourself today and at least be armed while those men are here just in case they are what you think they are.
More Every Day
I smiled to myself as I got out of bed and flipped on my mp3 player and let it blare out the speakers around me. I grabbed the phone as I headed for the bathroom and called Ava. It rung three times before she answered.
Ava* I guess you needed help with the deck after all huh?
I laughed a bit.
Imi* I could use some help with the deck but not the type you are thinking. Cherry came to me yesterday scared out of her wits. She said she was going to come see you, have you talked to her yet?
Ava* Yea I talked to her alright. Nora's dead and two people here to kill us. Top price too. Luckily we are all family here huh?
Imi* You know Cherry said the same thing. It is a good thing we are family though. I am inviting the two guys over from his brother's farm along with three others to make it look good. I want to keep a watch on them for the day and see how they act.
Ava* Oh no doubt. That is the smartest thing I have heard all day. I will come over as well. We don't want to spook them.
Imi* Yea. Also Ava. Oh myh gosh can't believe I said I would talk to you about this.
Ava* Don't start it like that, you know I hate that. Spit it out already.
Imi* Well Marek is going into the Marines and Mari said she wants to go east coast as well. I at first thought that maybe we could both move that way and become drill instructors. Meri was right though and they aren't ready for us yet. Hopefully before we are old and grey. Anywho, Mari said we should work with the base hospital about doing a holistic clinic on base as well. You have to think on how much that would take off the hospital's plate.
It was quiet for a moment before she spoke to me again.
Ava* Not a bad idea since you leaving means there really isn't much else left for us here. What about the ranch and shop.
Imi* Kie wants to sell it, make a good profit off of the system we have going right now don't you think?
Ava* Yea, that it would, that it would. Give me a bit to think about it. I will let you know once we have a better sit rep and after the party alright?
Imi* Alright. I better see your ass over here in 30. I am about to call for the five hands to help us out on the deck so our guys are free to work the ranch. Being short handed is never fun.
Ava* Alright. I will be there soon.
The line went dead and I sighed. There had been too much going on for me and I didn't like it in the least. I missed a quiet life when it wasn't quiet anymore and missed my busy life when I wasn't working anymore. I felt more restless than I had in a long time. Who knew, I thought that maybe the move would do me some good. A new place, new circumstances and harder for the assholes who were out to get us. If I thought at the time that the shit had hit the fan. It wasn't close to the smoking barrel that awaited me later that day.
