The trip to Washington didn't take too long, but even being blind the timezone hopping was killer. Everytime I checked my phone it was earlier and earlier. I was glad that Molly was allowed to fly in the cabin with Rick and I, but I had to do the one thing she never loved. I had to put her in her service vest for her to be able to fly with me. I was scared and it was interesting that both Molly and Rick picked up on it. I was in between the both of them on the flight and smiled as one grabbed my hand and the other one nuzzled my shoulder with her massive snout.

"Don't worry Mara, we are almost there and then we can check you in for your exams and then we will rest until they call us for the surgery alright?"

I nodded. "Just wondering what my life will be like if this works and I am able to see."

Rick patted my hand. "You will have the world at your feet. Not like you don't already, but my goodness you will be a force to be rekoned with. It is definitely going to take some time to get used to, but you will be amazing."

I smiled. "You know it would be good to know what I am wearing for once and choose my own clothes and know that they match. I always wondered if someone was dressing me funny since I couldn't see."

Rick chuckled beside me. "Well, you never had to worry about that from me, I figure that jeans go with everything so you should be fine. Of course no matter what you wear, you look amazing."

I nodded and tried my best to relax back in the seat for the remainder of the trip. I drifted in and out of sleep with all of the noises around me. I was scared, and more than scared for the first time in my life and I didn't know how to express it. What if I had pinned my hopes on something that might never be?

The Captain came over the loud speaker telling us that we were making our descent into Spokane and I became even more nervous. I felt the jerking motions of the plane and sweat started to bead up on my forehead. I felt like my world was lurching to and fro and it worried me. It wasn't too long until we were on the ground and Molly, Rick and I were the first ones off the plane and into the airport. It didn't take long until I heard my name screamed across the airport terminal. Rick directed me to the noise and I smiled as Molly moved closer to me.

"Mara, my name is Jennifer and I am to take you to the hospital. We are going to get the preliminary tests done so that we can get you in surgery first thing tomorrow. The transplants will only be good for so long so we are really in a rush. Now we are going to collect your things and get you straight over to the hospital. The dog will not be able to come, unfortunately but I will find a wonderful place for her to be."

I shook my head. "No, Molly comes with me through this. I know she can't go into the OR with me, but she can wait in my room. She has walked this journey with me from the beginning and her and I will finish this together. She is an extension of me and I am going to need her in the two weeks that I am bandaged to help me get around."

I heard a huff of air and knew that Jennifer was not pleased. "I am not sure how I am going to get this cleared as animals really aren't sanitary and we need a steril environment."

I laughed. "Well, she is a service dog so it doesn't matter, the rules really don't apply to her, now shall we get going so we can get this over with?"

I felt Rick at my elbow and Molly at my leg as they both led me out into the parking lot and into a waiting SUV. Molly was placed in the back and our bags were in the back seat with us. The ride to the hospital took about twenty minutes and then I was rushed in, to an elevator and down a long hallway. Jennifer didn't say much to us as she rushed us through the hospital to the room that would be my home for the next two weeks. Rick moved through at my side and I heard our bags rattle on his shoulder.

"Alright here we are. The nurses will be here to get you ready within a moment. The doctors will be along soon, registration will help you out with everything that you know and hopefully this won't take long so that you can get some rest. I know that it has been a long day for you and we want you to rest before the procedure tomorrow. Did you bring anything comfortable and warm to wear for the procedure?"

I nodded my head. "Yes I did, I don't like being half naked in those gaudy robe that you guys have. Do you need me to change now?"

"Yes Mara, we need you to change now that way once everything gets started it will run smoothly."

Rick grasped my hands and put the clothes in it. I touched Molly and moved her forward with me into the bathroom. It took me a bit to get things in order and then I brushed my hair and braided it back. The next two weeks of my life were make or break for me. At least that is what I thought then.
