"Sarah, you have to get up hunny. You don't want to be late for your first day."Mom called from the bottom of the stairway.
"Can I just stay home, I don't feel too good."
"Sweetie, you need to start fresh and enjoy your life. Not mop around for the rest of your life. I'm sure that's not what your dad would want for you." mom replied as she appeared at the doorway.
I sighed as I yanked off my blankets knowing my mom was right. I really didn't want to go to a new school or move on with my life, however I didn't WANT my dad to be killed in a car crash either, but I guess both will end up happening. I made my way to the bathroom, looking in the mirror on the way. I had a serious case of bed head. My blonde hair was currently going in every other direction. Plus, I had dark circles under my sky blue eyes which are due to that I haven't had a full night of sleep in months.
When I had finally finished in the bathroom, I made my way over to a box of my clothes and just threw on a pair of jeans and the first shirt I could find. I pulled my hair back in a pony and put on the necklace my dad gave me. When I looked at myself in the mirror again, the memories began to flow back.
It was almost a year ago when my dad had passed away. It was suppose to be one of the best days of my life. It just happened to be my 15th birthday.I woke up that morning excited and happy for the day ahead, and to start off, I find my dad was right there to wish me a happy birthday. My dad always knew how to make me smile. He was always there for me. He told me he had a special day planned for us and that I needed to go get dressed so he could take me for breakfast. My dad always knew how to make things special and that is why we did stuff just the two of us. When we were almost finished our breakfast, he told me he had a surprise for me. He pulled out a little red jewellery box out of his pocket. He said to open it and inside was a necklace with an angel with diamonds on it."You will always be my sweet angel" was the exact words he said to me. The rest of the day was spent with laughing and smiling. I knew that day was going to be one of the ones I would always remember, but hardly did I know it was not for the reason I thought. While we made our way home, my dad mentioned that my mom was making me a special birthday dinner for me. We were in his old light blue truck and we just stopped at a light. At that moment, I turned to my dad and told him "Dad you made this day one of the best and I love you for it. I don't know what I would ever do without you." My dad turned to me and smiled and said "I love you too, sweetie." As he turned to the road, the light flicked to green and we started to drive. I leaned my head against the window and looked at my dad with a smile on my face. Not even a second later did I see the flash of lights before my eyes, as a car smashed into the driver side of the truck and at that moment, things went black and I knew I had just lost my best friend.
With the memories flowing back, the tears started to fall down my cheeks, and a thumb appeared and started to wipe them away. I wrapped my arms around my mom, as she rubbed my back telling me it was going to be alright. When I was finally done, I put on my shoes and started to walk to school. I barely knew where I was going, but I refused to get in a car after the accident. I mainly either walk or bus if I needed to get anywhere. The school ended up being closer to my house than I thought. "James Wood High school" was the name that was written on the sign. I entered the building and made my way to the office. The school was not the biggest, however it wasn't the smallest either. It was just normal size. After wondering around for a bit, I had finally found the office which I figured out was just by the main entrance. The lady at the front desk was busy on the phone when I entered. "Can I help you?" The lady asked as she hung up the phone.
"Hi, my name is Sarah Taylor. I just transferred here and was supposed to meet someone about getting my classes."
"Oh, yes that's right. Mrs. Fisher will be here in a moment, please just sit and wait and I'll call her." She gestured her hand to a seat by the window. In the next couple of minutes, a lady in a suit walked in with a coffee and a bunch of papers in her hand and smiled at me.
"You must be Sarah. I'm Mrs. Fisher, principle of James Wood High. Here, I have a package that should help you. It contains your classes, locker information and a map of the school. If you have any questions, feel free to visit me any time, or anyone in the office will help you."
"Thank you." I replied as I turned and started to make my way to my locker.Walking down the hall, I noticed there were plenty of new faces with their eyes on me. I got that I'm the new kid, but really do this many people need to stare? I looked down at my papers to see I had found my locker 2054, but only did I find that there was a group of guys leaning against it. 'Great just what I want to deal with right now. It just had to be my locker, which probably had the "popular" guys of the school leaning against it.' I was about to say something, a built guy with dirty blond hair and bright blue eyes who was wearing a lettermen jacket and had to be about 5'10, turned around and acknowledge me.
"Hey Danny, looks like there is a present for you here." The guy joked to his friend who was taller and more built than him but had brunette hair, stunning green eyes and was also wearing a lettermen jacket too.
"Hello sexy. Are you busy later?"As those words came out of his mouth, I just stared at him, like he was a moron. Does this guy really think he has that much game? "See I make every girl speechless," Danny joked to his friends. I seriously couldn't believe this guy. He was really starting to piss me off and I was in no mood to deal with some jackass at the moment.
"Excuse me, can you please move? You are in the way of my locker." I said as nicely as I could.
"Awe look at this girl, she is just too cute." Danny laughed as he stepped closer to me. I started to feel uncomfortable.
"What's your name babe?" I could feel his breath on the side of my ear, which completely creped me out.
"Danny, just let the poor girl get to her locker." The guy with the blond hair tugged his friend away.
"Whatever, let's go guys. I'll be seeing you later, sweetheart." Danny winked at me with a smirk on his face as he walked away with his group of friends leaving his friend with the blue eyes behind.
"Sorry about that, Danny can be a little cocky sometimes. I'm Nathan, your new right?" He stuck out his hand for me to shake it.
"I see that, and yeah I'm new here unfortunately. But it's nice to meet you Nathan, I'm Sarah." I hesitated before I stuck out my hand and shook his. I looked at Nathan, and he didn't look like to bad of a person, but I don't know if I'm ready to let anyone in my life just yet."Well I guess it was nice meeting you." I said breaking the silence and turning to enter into my locker.
"You too, I hope to see you around soon." I turned to wave good bye, to notice that he was already running down the hall to catch up with his friends. 'Well this is going to be an interesting year' I muttered to myself, as the bell rang to tell you to go first class which I figured out that I had science first.
