I stared at the tree—squinting, actually. There was something odd about it, almost unreal. Was I going crazy? Of course I was. The tree was just a regular tree. It had brown bark and green leaves. So, then why did it seem different?
I stood up and slowly walked over to it so I could examine it further. I looked closely at the color and the texture. I smelled the wood. Normal. I pressed my ear against it. A humming noise vibrated from within its dense structure. I leaned away and knocked repeatedly on the trunk in different places. I was searching for a weak spot. When I heard the hollow, I brought my hand back and pounded on the wood until it cracked. I added more pressure with every blow and then it happened.
My fist penetrated the wood and a glowing light emerged from the dark cocoon, causing me to fall backwards in astonishment. It zipped back and forth through the air, almost as if it were searching for something. I stood, and immediately realized that was a mistake. The light froze and flew towards me.
I turned to run, but clumsily ended up tripping and falling into the muddy ground. Disgusting. The light encased me, and then ironically enough, everything went black.
