The next day Lucas was back at school, as Kat walked into the class, he smiled and was waving for her to come sit next to him. Kat smiled back and plopped down into the seat next to him. "I was about to think you got in trouble" Lucas said, worry in is voice, "nah, I woke up late" Kat responded. Lucas laughed "nice." School flew by, but near the end of the day, Kat realized there was something on Lucas's mind, Kat saw him in the hallway and called after him. "Lucas, is there something wrong?" Kat asked, Lucas looked a little surprised, then shook his head, "no, it's nothing........ I'm just sorry about yesterday." Now it was Kat's turn to look surprised, she was expecting something more serious, it being Lucas and all.

Lucas didn't have the most loving family or the greatest life. He was always out late, God only knows where, from the text she got from him, and some days he looked laggard and grumpy. Kat had never seen is family, but by what he said about them, they weren't very loving, but at the same time, there would always be a hint of respectfulness in his tone of voice. "oh, no, it's okay" Kat said, Lucas smiled "that's good", Kat smiled and assumed that was all. She turned and was about to head outside to wait for her mom, when a firm, strong hand gripped her wrist with just enough force to send a shot of pain through her arm. She whipped around and it was Lucas holding her wrist tightly, his eyes were narrowed in anger and his body had tensed.

"Who is he?" Lucas asked, his voice was stern and it sent shivers down Kat's back. Kat knew who he was talking about and she didn't want to talk about it, but Lucas's anger was about to boil over. "Chris?, he's my brother's friend" Kat said, Lucas's grip got tighter, "don't lie to me" Lucas said, Kat could see his anger rising and his patience vanishing. Kat didn't want to talk about Chris, not one bit, and why was Lucas so angered and disgruntled about Chris, so many questions ran through her head. She opened her mouth to question him, but before she could, Lucas let go of her wrist and turned away to walk away, "you know, just forget about it, it's nothing, I'll see you tomorrow" Lucas was about to walk away when Kat grabbed ahold of his arm. "Lucas, I didn't mean-, I was going to tell you" Kat said rapidly, Lucas turned around and stared at Kat, looking to make sure she was telling the truth.

Lucas took Kat's hand and kissed it gently, the pain from Lucas's grip washed away, Kat was a little surprised, but assumed it was her imagination. Lucas's shoulders relaxed and his eyes filled with saddnes "I'm sorry grabbed you like that and talked to you in such a way", he said as he meet Kat's eys. Kat smiled gently at Lucas "it's okay, and I'm sorry i didn't tell you about chris sooner, but I will tell you, I promise", she walked stepped toward him and gave him a gentle, fervent kiss. His lips were soft like rose petals, as they broke apart, a rough grunt made them jump. Kat turned around, it was Chris, he was stoical, but Kat new he was hurt, 'it's time to go" he said calmly, Lucas tapped lightly on Kat's shoulder "i'll see you later" and walked away.

"Where's my mom?" Kat asked, "Jay is sick and your mom is taking care of hm, so she asked me to come pick you up" Chris responded, walking away, twrilling the keys around his finger. Kat was really angery, Chris was a crony again, a few months ago her brother, Jay and his other friend, Tom and Chris got in a huge fight. He started putting them off and lieing to them and me to hang out with his sluttish girlfriend, Kat's hands curled up into fists. Also, not to mention he broke her heart and disappeared somewhere for almost year, "so what, are you all friends again?" Kat asked. Chris stopped and turned around "yeah, we are", they hopped into the car and drove the rest of the way home in silence, before Kat reached the door, Chris wrapped his arms around her. She remebered these arms, strong and firm, the arms that used to hold her when she had nightmares.

Kat got nightmares mostly every other night, they were very frighting, that always left Kat looking haggard. Every time she would scream her head off, Chris was always there next to her, soothing her. Kat held back the tears, that threatened to spill out, she tred to shove him off, but he was stronger than her. "Chris, please let go" she said softly, Chris let go "I know, I never meant to hurt you, but don't get to close to that boy" , Kat turned around and glared at Chris, hands clenching into fists. "You know nothing about Lucas and why do you care?" Kat saw a rush of sadness cross his face. "Katelyn I know, but I'm trying to protect you, you probably don't know what's going on, but you will soon, you'll understand."

Chris kissed her head and turned to leave, Kat was confused, she didn't understand what he said or meant, what did it mean, what was she supposed to understand?
