Rain pattered heavily against the black car's windows causing near zero visibility outside for the driver of the small vehicle. The passenger's inside the car felt as tense as the driver who tried to maneuver his way through the heavy traffic. One of the particular occupants turned his head towards the back seat where a petite girl lay on the seat, unconscious of everything going on around her. He ran a thick, rough hand through his dark curly hair, turning his attention back to the crowded road.
"You aren't having second thoughts are you? She is our ticket to a better life." The male driver turned his head briefly towards his front seat companion, his eyes showing the concern he felt for his friend's shaky countenance.
"Of course not; she is nothing; she is just a prize for him. Hopefully she will not give him any problems. I would hate to see what would happen should she do so. Don't worry Enrico; nothing will persuade me to falter from our course of action." Armando relaxed a bit in his seat once they were moving more smoothly through the traffic towards the airport. "When do you think she will wake up? She's been out for nearly 4 hours now." He glanced back once again briefly.
"She should be awake by the time we reach the airport, we need her lucid while we get through customs. The sooner we are on the plane, the better I will feel about this whole excursion." Enrico continued to direct the car through the traffic, the rain seeming to come down with a new vengeance, making the driving conditions near unbearable. He finally reached their exit and soon they were parked at the airport and turning their attention to their backseat passenger.
"Come on girl, wake up now, we have a long flight ahead of us and we need you good and awake." Enrico reached into the pocket of his black satin suit and pulled out a small vial, he popped the lid and held it briefly under nose. The girl jerked awake and tried to bolt for the door, but Armando reached out and grasped her wrist before she could, even though he knew full well that the door was locked.
"Where am I? Why do you have me in your car bound up like a prisoner?" The girl's sage eyes darted from side to side panic stricken on her face.
"Do not worry so much dear, you will soon be safe. We would never harm you, unless you give us a reason to." Enrico smiled sweetly at he, causing her stomach to churn.
"Why can't I just go home? Who are you people?" Tears began to stream freely down her pale face, causing her long curly blonde hair to stick to her face.
"Well, because we simply can't and to answer your other question, we can't tell you right now." Armando told her sincerely, her eyes causing his heart to stir just a bit. "Now, we are going up to the airport now, and getting on a rather long flight, but don't worry you won't be awake for most of it. We will drug you once we get settled into our seats. Now, we need to discuss your behavior between now and getting to our seats. There will be no screaming for help, and no unecessary chatter, is that quite clear for you?" He asked relinquishing his gold on her wrist; she nodded solemnly another tear escaping down her cheek.
"Well that is splendid, now get your face all cleaned up, we can't have people speculating, also we have a brown wig for you to wear. We can't have people recognizing you. Armando, where did you put those rings?" Enrico started digging around in the car, until Armando presented an envelope with two silver bands inside. He handed one to the girl, and Armando took the other one. "Now our premise if, you two are married, and I am your servant. We will continue this charade until we arrive at our destination, or until we say so. Is that all clear for you?" Again she nodded as she went through her makeup bag, which they had obviously stolen along with her, trying to clean her face up. "Good, I will get the umbrellas and go prepare the luggage, you two will wait until I am next to your doors with the umbrellas so I can escort you into the buildings." Enrico departed the car then and Armando turned forward slipping the ring onto his finger. He glanced into the rearview mirror and watched her slip the smaller silver band onto her ring finer. He closed his eyes for a second thinking how different things had been not 48 hours earlier...
