Matt already knew what my reaction would be and was prepared. He scooted over in his bed and held his arms out for a hug. I ran over to him and closed the space between us.
"Matt...what am I going to do?"
He stroked my hair and replied, "I don't know, Grace...but...you have choices."
I raised up and stated, "No. I won't have abortion...I won't kill my baby."
He raised his hands up, in defense, and said, "Alright...alright...it was just a suggestion."
"You know me Matt...I can't kill anything! Let alone something that's growing inside me."
Matthew nodded and held his hand out for me to hold. "Well," he replied, "what ever happens, baby-girl, I'm here for you."
I closed my eyes and rested my head against his chest. "Thank you, Matt. I just don't know who I can trust...I mean who should I tell?"
"Well...as much as I know you don't want to...you need to tell Justin."
Matt was right. Justin needed to know since he was the father, so while in the room with Matthew, I called Justin. I sat there patiently while it rang and rang...but he didn't answer. I was semi-relieved that he didn't pick up and I waited for the beep to leave a voicemail.
"Hey...Justin, um...this is Grace. I need to talk to you about something and I kinda want to do it in person...so when you get this, call me back or something and we'll meet up. Bye."
I shut my phone and looked over at Matt. "Now all you have to do is wait." He said. I nodded and started pacing the floor. "What is it now?" he asked.
"Should I tell my mom?"
Matt's face was priceless. It was a mixture of shock (for even asking that question) and blankness (for being stupid). "Are you crazy?! If you tell her, I won't have a best friend!"
For once, that whole day, I smiled. "Matt...I'm glad I could trust you with these kind of things. Do you want to be the godfather?"
"And what? Raise a child like you? Hell no."
He started laughing while I crossed my arms defensively. "Hey! I'm not that bad."
I grabbed my purse and keys and brushed my lips against Matt's mouth. "I'll call you later. Thanks, again, for everything."
He nodded with a big grin plastered on his face. I swear, no matter who kisses him on the mouth...even a small peck, he's goes crazy! "I love you Matty!" I hollered, leaving the room.
"I love you, Gracie!"
Around 2:30, my phone started ringing in my purse. I looked at the screen and saw it was a message from David.
"Hey! Do you want to meet at Lucille's and get a bite to eat??? :)"
I had no idea where Lucille's was or what it even was, so I txted back and said, "where is that?"
While waiting for a reply, I drummed my thumbs against the steering wheel and sang along with Maroon 5's 'Daylight'. My phone rang again and David's reply said:
"It's a little diner on King Street. Right next to the clinic! You can't miss it lol"
I looked over at the clinic and, sure enough, on the block was a little diner name Lucille's.
When I walked through the doors, a little bell rang and everyone worker yelled out "Welcome to Lucille's!"
I smiled and scanned the tables for David. Finally, I saw him hiding behind a menu and laughing to himself. I walked over and sat across from him. "Ha Ha...very funny."
"What?" He said.
"Trying to hide from me...don't lie." I picked up a menu and glanced at the items they served there.
David was watching me the whole time and finally asked, "So...how's your day been?"
"Um...not too good, actually." I sat down the menu and looked up at David.
He had a strong gaze in his eyes...it made him look even more handsome. "Do you want to talk about it?"
Do I trust this guy? I asked to myself. After a moment's hesitation, I replied, "Sure...um...I found out today that I'm pregnant."
David's reaction was complete opposite of what I was thinking it would be. Instead of being shocked and uncomfortable, David replied, "Well congrats! I didn't know you were seeing someone..though."
I laughed out loud. "Trust me. I'm not seeing this guy...uh...we had sex the night I found out about Matt's condition."
"Oh...so common mistake."
I nodded and replied, "Wow...I just have to ask this...why do you seem so care-free about this? Are you not worried that I'm pregnant?"
"Should I be worried? I mean...I'm just saying, now,...if me and you were to start dating, I would be there for you. I would help you with the baby."
David's words touched my heart. "You would?"
"Of course. I would help you raise it like it was my own child."
At that time, a heavy-set waitress came to our table and said, "Hey y'all! I'm Heather and I'll be your waitress! What can I getcha for drinks?"
"We'll have waters, please." David already knew all I drank was water from my many visits to the clinic.
When Heather had went back to the kitchen, David and I continued our conversation. I said, "That's really sweet of you, David. I wasn't expecting it."
He slowly moved his hand across the table and laid it, gently, on top of mine. "Listen. I don't know how the baby-daddy acts, but know this: I will be complete opposite...no matter what."
David and I had finished our entrees around 4pm and we walked out the restaurant very happy. He escorted me to my car and even opened the door for me.
"Thank you. For the meal...and everything."
He pushed a stray hair away from my face and replied, "Don't mention it. Like I said, I'm here for you." He leaned forward and barely touched his lips to mine.
"I'll call you later," he stated.
I nodded and climbed into my car. On the way home, I decided that I wouldn't tell my mom just yet..but I would tell my dad. He deserved to know since he was so far away.
Then a thought hit me.
I had to tell Logan.
