I woke up the next morning with a sick feeling in my stomach. I looked over at the clock and saw that it was 9:30. My appointment was at eleven. Justin would be here around that time to pick me up and take me to the hospital.
Getting out of bed, I wished that night with Justin never happened. He had turned into a complete jerk and was treating me like a dog.
I quickly took a shower and washed my hair. When I stepped out, my mom was in my room...waiting for me. "Today's the big day, huh?" I could tell she was tired, but pretended not to notice.
"Yeah...I guess. I wish you were coming with me instead of Justin." I snarled my nose in disgust when I said Justin's name and my mom gave me a disappointed look.
She said, "Gracie, give him a chance. He seems like a great guy." I scoffed and retorted, "No, mom. What you saw last night, was a great actor."
My mom rolled her eyes and stated, "He was a gentleman to me and your grandma...I have to believe he's sweet to you, too."
I gave up trying to explain to her Justin's real side. "Whatever. Believe what you want, mom." I walked back into my bathroom, to try and avoid her...but she followed.
"So...are you wanting a boy or a girl?" Her question seemed strange to me after the discussion we just had. I looked over at her and simply said, "I guess a boy."
My mom smiled widely and exclaimed, "Oh! He would be precious!" I nodded my head and went back into the my bedroom, with mom following behind.
Finally receiving my cold shoulder, mom said, "Well...I guess I'll head back downstairs. You two be careful today."
She walked out of my room and took the awkwardness with her. For some reason, I felt much better when she left.
Justin pulled into my driveway at 10:45. He was driving a shiny, red, truck that I had never seen before. When I opened the door I asked, "Whose truck is this?"
He smiled and replied, "I borrowed it from my brother. It drives better than mine."
I sat down and looked at Justin. "Please act normal today." He raised an eyebrown and said, "I don't know what you mean, babe, but I'll try my best."
We cruised down the highway to Mother Mary Maternity Clinic in Fallbrook, a little town south of north of San Diego. Justin was listening to some country song I didn't recognize, and started singing along.
"...I didn't come here to start a fight, but I'm up for anything tonight. You know you broke the wrong heart baby and drove me redneck crazy."
I glanced over at him and then looked up at the roof of the car. "I didn't know you liked country music."
Justin darted his eyes to me then back at the road. With a smirk, he replied, "I'm a big fan of country! That's basically all I listen to."
He looked at me with a smile and asked, "How's that interesting?"
I shrugged my shoulders and stated, "You look like you would enjoy rap music...not country."
"Just because I have tattoos and piercings, doesn't mean I don't like country, silly." He placed his hand on mine and squeezed it gently.
Who was he trying to fool? I lifted my hand out from in under his hand and placed mine in my lap. He chuckled and mumbled, "You didn't move from my touch last time we were alone together."
I glared at him and said, "Just don't touch me, Justin, ok?"
"Alright, girl, chill. Don't scare the baby." He had a sneer on his face and I almost slapped him across the face.
I calmed myself down and said, "Since when do you care about the baby? Wasn't it you, that said that you didn't want to be in its life?"
Justin tensed up. "Maybe I've changed my mind."
"Ha. I can see why you never see your other child."
Justin slammed the brakes and whipped his head towards me. "Don't you ever say something like that again! That bitch took my daughter from me because she found another man! She was cheating on me, Grace! And now, my daughter doesn't even know I'm her real father! She thinks that bastard is her father!"
I scooted as close as I could to the door and stared out the window. I had never seen Justin like that before. He hit the steering wheel and was breathing really hard. "I'm sorry, Justin. I didn't know..."
He sighed and looked over at me. "No...I'm sorry. I shouldn't have lashed out at you. Let's just try to forget that happened."
We arrived at the hospital around 11:15. Justin kept apologizing for making us late, but I didn't pay any attention to it. I had butterflies about finding out what my baby was.
"Are you ready," Justin asked while rubbing his eyes. I caught a glimpse at his face and noticed he had been crying.
I nodded and gently placed my hand on his arm. "C'mon. Let's go meet our baby."
He smiled and climbed out of the truck. When we walked in, we were escorted immediately into a room. After about five minutes, a woman in a white lab coat came in carrying a clipboard.
"Hello happy parents! I'm Dr. Lin and we'll be delivering your baby in a few months!" She shook, both, Justin's and my hand and sat down on a stool.
She started explaining the process. "Ok, Gracie, here in a minute I'm going to ask you to take off your shirt and put on a hospital gown. We are going to put this gel on your stomach called conducting gel, then I'll point out visible body parts, ok? Easy enough, right?"
"It seems a little overwhelming to me," I murmured. Dr. Lin stood up and made her way towards the door. "Alright, I'll let you change into the hospital gown and Justin, you can let me know when she's ready."
With that, she stepped out the room. I felt uncomfortable stripping in front of Justin...not because I haven't done before, but because of what just happened in the truck.
I lifted up my shirt and quickly put the gown over me. I noticed Justin's jaw twitched but he quickly hid it and walked over to the door.
Dr. Lin, swiftly, walked back in and began putting latex gloves on. "Ok, Gracie, hop up on this table and lay down for me. Be sure to lift the gown up over your stomach."
I did what she said, looking at Justin the whole time. "Sit beside me, please," I whispered. He nodded and immediately moved over to my side.
Dr. Lin brought a container over to the table and started rubbing the contents on my stomach. I winced at the coolness, but soon got use to it.
I held out my hand and Justin intertwined his with mine. I was still mad at him for the cruel words he said at his house, but now was the time for happiness.
"Ok, Gracie, let's go have a look at that baby. Justin, will you turn on that machine beside you?" Justin nodded and turned towards a white, heavy-looking machine with a red button on the side. We watched as the screen came to life and then waited for Dr. Lin to start.
In her hand, she held a remote-looking device with a cord attached to it. She gently placed it on my stomach, and immediately an image showed up on the screen.
"Gracie, do you see that?" She pointed at little white dots on the screen and explained, "Those are the baby's toes."
I gasped. Justin smiled at me and squeezed my hand, again. He must've done this before, because he wasn't as amazed as me.
Dr. Lin smiled and continued to point at parts. "Here's its head. And there's its hands and right there...right there is what let's us know that you are having a boy!"
This time, Justin gasped. I turned to him and started laughing. "I'm having a boy!" Dr. Lin pushed a button on the machine and printed pictures for us.
After I took off the gown and put my shirt back on, Dr. Lin shook my hand and said, "Congratulations, Gracie! I look forward to seeing your little boy."
She shook Justin's hand and asked, "Are you already a proud papa?" He chuckled and nodded.
I couldn't wait to tell Matt, my mom, my grandma, Roxy, David, and especially Logan! He will be so happy!
When we were back in the truck, it was around 12:50. My stomach started growling something awful and Justin looked over at me with a smirk. "Do you wanna grab something to eat?"
"Sure. Whatever you like." I leaned my head against the window and waited for Justin to decide on a place. Finally, we ended up going to a little sandwich shop near the beach called, 'Kiki's'
Inside the place, was very hawaiian. There were tiki lamps, hawaiian shirts hanging on the walls, and many, many flowers! We sat down at a booth and waited for a waitress to come get our order.
"Wow...I have no idea what I want," I said staring at the menu. A little, short-haired, hawaiian waitress came up to our table and smiled at Justin...just Justin.
For some reason, I got jealous. It was weird because just an hour ago, I was insulting him and making him cry. Now, I was wanting his attention.
The waitress said, "Hi! Welcome to Kiki's! I'm Tawni and I'll be your waitress today. Can I start with your drinks, sir?" She winked at Justin while he stated, "I want a coke, please."
Then, she turned and glared at me. "You?" I was shocked at her disrespect, but tried to ignore it. "I'll take a water." She rolled her eyes and scribbled down on her paper.
When she walked away, I looked at Justin and asked, "Did you see that? She is jealous of me!"
Justin leaned forward and murmured, "Is she jealous of you...or are you jealous of her?" I didn't answer and that obviously gave Justin his answer. He winked at me before Tawni came back with our drinks.
I watched as she sat down Justin's coke and, purposely, brushed against his hand. Again, I pretended to not notice as she basically slammed my water down on the table.
"Ok. Now, what do you want to eat, hun?" She was talking to Justin. I watched both of them, but Justin didn't seem to enjoying her flirting.
"I want the turkey and ham sandwich, no swiss cheese and a side of fries." She wrote it down and then started to walk away.
"Hello? You forgot my order," I stated coldly. Tawni turned around and said, "Oh..my bad. What do you want?"
I looked at the menu one more time, but still didn't know what I wanted. "I guess I'll take the same as him."
Tawni walked away without even taking up my menu. "Ok...she is so not getting a tip."
Justin laughed at me and softly kicked me under the table. "Don't get so worked up over her, babe. She doesn't appeal to me at all and I want to be with the girl carrying my son...not a fake waitress."
As much as I didn't want to, I blushed. These past few days, I wasn't use to see this side of Justin. I had seen the cruel, abusive side.
Tawni came back with two plates and sat mine in front of me with a loud clatter. With two hands, she sat Justin's in front of him and put her hand on his shoulder. "You let me know if you need anything else, hun."
That was it. I stood up and pointed at my stomach. "Listen. Stop flirting with him! Did you not even notice he is sitting with someone? Someone who happens to be pregnant with his baby!"
Tawni scoffed and flipped her hair like an idiot. "How dare you talk to me like that," She exclaimed. Justin watched with amusement as we argued.
"Just stop flirting with him! He has a girlfriend!" As soon as said that, I wanted to take it back. Justin locked eyes with me and smiled.
Tawni mouth was agape and soon she ran off to the bathroom, squalling. I sat back down in the booth and started picking at my fries, with Justin still staring at me.
"What are you looking at," I mumbled. Justin broke his trance and rested his head on hand. "Wow. That was really something you did there."
I rolled my eyes. "I didn't mean it. She was getting on my nerves and it accidently came out."
Justin nodded and sarcastically said, "Uh-huh. Sure."
"I'm not hungry anymore," I murmured, "Can we take it to go?"
Justin brought me home around 1:30. I was just about to climb out of the truck, when Justin grabbed my arm and turned me around. Before I could stop him, his lips were on mine. This time, however, I didn't push away.
When he stopped, he said, "I hope you know what I said back at the restaurant was true."
I nodded and climbed out of the truck without another word. Once I knew Justin was gone, I started wiping his kiss off my lips.
Justin was nice today, but I still had made my decision. I didn't want to be with him...I wanted to be with Logan.
