In and out of sleep, I felt a warm hand holding tightly to mine. I fully woke up two days after having Nash. When I opened my eyes, Logan was sitting at my bedside holding Nash in his arms.
"Hey. Good morning, Sunshine! We were just wondering when you were going to wake up." I looked down and saw Nash snuggling up to Logan.
I shifted in my bed and winced. "Do you need me to get the doctor," Logan asked concerned. Shaking my head, I replied, "No. It's not that bad...how long have you been here?" Logan shrugged his shoulders and said, "I don't know...I guess since you had little man."
I focused on Logan's face and noticed he had a bruise near his mouth. "What happened to your face?"
He pressed a finger to the bruise and replied, "It's nothing...just got into a little fight, that's all." I sat up and looked closer. The bruise was healing but it still looked painful. "Who did you get into a fight with? And when?"
Logan sighed. "I promise I'll explain later. Now, don't you want to hold your newborn baby, Miss Grace?"
Even though I didn't want to give up the discussion, I couldn't resist holding Nash. I held my arms out and allowed Logan to place Nash in my arms.
Nash squirmed and twisted his little wrists, but soon relaxed. "Hi there precious," I whispered. Logan sat down beside me and gently laid his hand on my leg.
"The night you were going into labor, Justin came to my room with his brother, Jared." Logan watched me carefully, to make sure I wasn't going to get mad with Nash.
I rolled my eyes and stated, "I knew it! Go on."
"Well. I was friendly with them. I asked them what they were needing, but Justin didn't answer. He demanded I tell him whether or not we were dating."
Nash made a little noise and took my attention away from Logan for a moment. "I think he's hungry...will you hand me that blanket?"
Logan raised an eyebrow and asked, "Are you breast-feeding him?"
I laughed and nodded my head. "Why can't I watch?" Logan asked with a smirk.
"Just hand me the blanket and finish your story," I demanded jokingly. Logan laid the blanket softly ontop of Nash and sat back down.
He continued, "I told him that I didn't have to answer anything he asked and he went ballistic! He jumped over my desk and punched me in the mouth. Of course, I punched back and hit him in the corner of the eye...that's when Jared got the phonecall that you were here and I left."
I sat there for a minute, being quiet. It was taking awhile for me to register that Justin actually hit Logan. "I am going to kill him," I finally responded.
Logan chuckled and squeezed my thigh. "No offense, baby, but I don't think you could take him in your condition." I glared at him but didn't argue.
Just then, a soft knock came at the door. After I said, "Come in," I regretted it.
Justin came in carrying a bouquet of sunflowers and a brown teddy bear. "Good morning, Beautiful! The doctor told me you were awake."
Nash had finished eating and I was burping him when I glanced over at Logan. "Will you please give me a minute alone with Justin?"
"Sure." Logan stood up and kissed me on the forehead before walking out the door.
Justin sat down where Logan was and smiled. "So...I heard the pregnancy went well."
"I can't believe you missed your own son being born!" I adjusted Nash and looked back at Justin.
Justin sighed and said, "I am sorry, Grace...but I had other things I had to take care of." I rolled my eyes and replied, "Like what? Going to beat up Logan?"
"Hey...he had it coming," Justin mumbled.
I looked at Justin and smugly stated, "I see he got in a hit as well."
Justin mechanically lifted his hand up to his swollen eye and covered it. "Yeah...well. I didn't say I was a fighting champion."
"You shouldn't have been fighting at all!" I exclaimed, loud enough to make Nash whimper. Justin glanced down at his son and murmured, "Can I hold him?"
I sighed and responded, "Nobody's going to stop you...just be easy." Justin stood up and held his arms out to take the baby.
"I have another kid, for your information." Once Nash was in his arms, Justin sat back down in the chair and smiled.
"I bet you were at that delivery," I mumbled. Justin whipped his head towards me and was about to yell, but calmed down when he remembered he had Nash.
He said, "I can't help that I missed his birth, ok? I am so sorry and I hope one day, in the near future you'll forgive me....I'm really trying, Grace."
Justin sounded honest and sincere but I replied, "Justin, I have had enough...you are violent and aggressive...jealous and overbearing...I can't take it anymore!"
A tear rolled down his cheek and, the funny thingt is, I didn't feel sorry for him. "Grace," he whispered, "I want to start over. Let me be in your life...to help with Nash."
"I don't want your help, Justin. The only reason you're going to even be in my life is to see your son...because...I'm not like your other baby-momma. You can see Nash whenever you want but us...there's nothing."
Justin nodded and replied, "You're right. You aren't like her...I seriously think you're worse."
"Excuse me," I asked in shock, "You're saying I'm worse than that crack-head girl that left you for another man and now won't let you see your daughter?! I'm worse?!"
Nash started crying and Justin didn't know how to make it stop. "Hand him here," I murmured.
Justin did what I said, but didn't wait to get him back. "Bye, Grace," he mumbled, "take care of him." I couldn't say anything else, because Justin stormed out the door.
Logan came back in, a couple hours later, with coffee in his hand. "Do you want some?" He asked, holding out his cup.
I shook my head. "I can't possibly drink any of that right now," I stated. Logan shrugged and started chugging away. WIthout knocking, Matthew came into the room wearing his I'm going to be an Uncle!!!! T-shirt.
"Hey you! I brought you some iced water," he said a little too cheery.
He sat the plastic cup down on the tray in front of me and smiled. "Thank you, Matty. You always know what I want," I replied.
Logan glanced at Matt and mumbled, "Well he is your brother. Give me some credit."
I giggled and took Logan's hand. "Thank you, sweetheart. The guesture was very kind."
This seemed to please Logan, because he sat back with his hands folded behind his head. Matt sat down beside Logan, but sat up straight. "Whoa...where's Nash?!"
I laughed and responded, "Calm down, silly. He's asleep over here in his crib." Matt glanced to the right of my bed and relaxed.
"So..when are they letting you go home?" Logan asked curiously.
Unknowingly, I yawned. "I'm suppose to leave next week...if everything goes well."
Matt grinned and said, "I can't wait to see the look on your dad's face when he sees his grandson."
I smiled. All of a sudden, I sat up. "Wait...my dad?"
Matt and Logan looked at each other and grinned. "SURPRISE!!!!" They both exclaimed. I crossed my arms and scrunched my eyebrows. "What are you talking about, you two?"
Logan took my hand and murmured, "Your dad is home."
