Chapter 32: *two weeks later*
I sat on a metal bench, waiting for Logan to return with Nash. We had been sitting by the lakeside for over an hour and already the humidity was high.
"We're back, mommy!" Logan exclaimed, holding Nash in his arms. Already my little boy had grown attached to Logan and thought him as a father. I could tell by the way Nash's little hand wrapped around Logan's finger.
"Hi there, Sweetie." I said to Nash in a baby-voice. Logan sat down beside me and wrapped his arm around my shoulders.
I looked at him and asked, "How was the walk?"
"Pretty good," he replied, "I think the ducks scared Nash, though. They got too close and he started crying."
I giggled and took Nash from Logan. "I'm sure he was just fussing. It's time for him to eat."
Logan shrugged his shoulders and murmured, "Maybe." I looked over at him and smiled.
"Thank you," I simply said.
He tilted his head and asked, "What for? I didn't do anything."
I laid my hand on his arm and stated, "You have! Helping me with Nash and never leaving me."
Logan chuckled and said, "Oh well, I thought that was getting annoying..." I shook my head. "It isn't. I love the company."
I closed my eyes. Today was a perfect day to be outside. The sun was shining, there was a cool breeze, and the lake wasn't very crowded.
When I opened my eyes again, Logan was in front of me...and down on one knee. He said,
"Gracie, I have grown to love you. I love your personality, your attitude, your compassion, your understanding; everything about you is perfect. I've asked myself countless times, 'When will I find my other half?' and my question would never be answered. Gracie, today on August 11, 2013, I have found by other half and all I want to know is...Will you marry me?"
I gasped. Logan opened the small, black, velvet box in the palm of his hand and showed me the little silver ring inside. There was a small diamond perched on top of the band and it was absolutely beautiful.
"Oh Logan! It's gorgeous." Logan pulled it out of the box and held it in front of my outstretched hand.
He asked, "What is your answer, Love?"
I let Logan slide the band onto my finger before I exclaimed, "Yes! Of course yes! A million times yes!"
Logan picked me up and twirled me and Nash in his arms. Everything was perfect...until I noticed a familiar figure standing on the hill.
My smile immediately vanished. Walking towards us, was Justin.
I started shaking, not because I was afraid of Justin, but because I remembered my dream:
I was sitting in a garden, on a bench, and Logan was in front of me...down on one knee. 'Will you marry me, Grace? I want to spend forever with you.'
'Yes! Of course I'll marry you!'
BAM! Logan fell down and blood poured from his chest, seeping through his white shirt.
He was still conscious. 'I love you, Grace. Spend forever with me.'
I looked up and saw Justin in the distance...holding a gun...pointing towards me.
Logan's words echoed everywhere...'Spend forever with me', 'Spend forever with me'...
I looked back at Justin and he pulled the trigger....
But for some reason, Justin didn't look intimidating...in fact, he looked like he was at peace. He closed the distance between us and looked at me and then at Logan, and finally at Nash.
"Grace. I had been doing alot of thinking since the hospital...I have given up on you loving me."
The way Justin was talking made me feel guilty. "Justin, I'm sorry but..."
"No. Don't be," Justin interrupted, "I'm not mad anymore...I have found someone else." Justin, then, smiled.
I glanced over at Logan and saw that even he was shocked. "Oh?" I quietly replied.
Justin nodded. "Yep. My daughter's mom. She came back to me, Grace! She came back and apologized for all the hurt and...she wants my daughter to meet me and get to know me! Isn't that great?"
Finally, I grinned. "That wonderful, Justin! I'm happy for both of you...but...there is one thing."
Justin scrunched his eyebrows together. "What is it?"
I looked down at my little boy and asked, "What about Nash? Are you going to be a father to him?"
He scratched his head. "I had thought about that, actually. I was thinking maybe Logan could adopt him and I'll help pay child support...trust me, Grace, I want to be part of his life, but I am finding that difficult if I'm moving to Arkansas."
I opened my mouth in surprised. "Arkansas?!"
Justin laughed. "Yeah. That's where she's living now. But, since you and Logan, here, are engaged...I thought you would like the idea."
Logan spoke up. "Well...I mean, if Grace wants that, I would be happy to adopt Nash. In fact, I think he's already attached to me."
I smiled at Logan. "I would love that!"
Justin clapped his hands and said, "Great! It's settled, then. We'll go to the courthouse and get this all straightened out. Congratulations on the engagement!"
Without another word, Justin walked back up the hill...and he was whistling. Finally, Justin was happy.
I turned to Logan and beamed. He looked down at the baby leaning on my chest, sound asleep. "Finally," he murmured, "we can be a family."
"Definitely. But can you do me a favor," I asked quietly.
Logan took my hand and replied, "Anything. You name it." I intertwined my fingers with his and said,
"Promise me you'll stay the same. You will never changed and you'll always be the same Logan Banks I fell in love with."
Logan lifted my hand and kissed it lightly. "Gracie, my darling, when it comes to making promises, you have nothing to worry about. I promise."
With that, he led me up the hill and to our new lives.
