The bell rang when we were still taking snapshots. Roxy almost threw her camera down to get out the door but Logan caught it just in time...except the film fell out.
Immediately, I bent down to help him pick it up. Logan smiled and said, "Thank you, Grace. I could've got this." I smiled and looked up into his deep gray eyes.
"Oh, it's no problem...I'm in no hurry." I know this was a lie, but I couldn't help but spend more time with Logan. He was so...mysterious in a gorgeous way.
His perfect white teeth formed a perfect smile and then he asked, "This may be an awkward question and it's ok if you don't want to answer but...do you have any plans for Friday?"
He was right. It was an awkward question but I couldn't help answering honestly. "No...I don't think so. Why?" We finished picking up the film and, simultaneously, stood up.
"No reason...I just...I was...wanting...no...I was wondering if you wanted go out to dinner?...with me."
I noticed Logan's knuckles turning white as he kneaded them together...he was really nervous about asking me out. I really should've said no because he was going to be my teacher!
But, I found myself saying, "That sounds great, Logan. What time?"
He smiled and replied, "Does 8 sound good to you?" I nodded and gave him a flirtly smile.
"Um...can I have a number to contact you?" His nervousness had returned, but only for a moment. I gently grabbed his hand and a pen.
I scribbled my number out on his hand blew on it to dry. "That's my cell. You can call or txt me anytime."
He quickly read and then smiled. "Alright. I'll see you friday, then." I waved goodbye and walked out of the door beaming.
I reached the exit and Justin stood there at the corner, waiting for me. "Hey babe. Do you need a ride home?"
Rolling my eyes, I said, "No, Justin. I drove today." I tried to walk away from him, but he continued walking beside me.
"Great! Cause...I kinda need a lift home. Can you help me out, babe?" I looked at Justin's face and, for once, I saw honesty. However, I still asked.
"Are you telling me the truth? This isn't one of your lines to get a girl?" I had stopped walking and was facing Justin with my arms crossed.
He chuckled and replied, "I swear, Gracie. My ride left early and forgot to tell me...that bitch." I tried to ignore his last comment and continued thinking about it.
"I don't know if I can...I'm going out of town today." I watched as Justin began growing frustrated. I was probably the hundredth student he'd asked for a ride.
He asked, "Where are you going?"
"San Diego." I noticed a gleam in Justin's eye when I said that. He whistled and said, "Boy, I reckon you're going out of town! What is bringing you to my hometown?"
A lightbulb went off inside my head. "You use to live in San Diego?" I asked.
"Hell yeah! That's my place. Wish I could've stayed...but my baby-momma lives there and we've got some.......issues." Justin had a kid?
I ignored his response and said, "Come with me to my car."
Outside my car, Justin stood with me holding my backpack for me. I had stuffed the address Louis had given in there and couldn't seem to find it.
"Babe, what are you looking for?" Justin asked for the third time.
I finally found the slip of paper and held it out to Justin. "Can you show me how to get there?"
Justin read the address and then read it again two more times. Confused, he asked, "Why the fuck are you going there?"
"My friend, Matthew, is there. I'm going to surprise him today!" I watched Justin's expression change and it kinda concerned me. "What is the place, Justin?"
He grabbed the address again and said, "Oh...my bad. Wrong place...yeah, I can getcha there." I wasn't sure whether to believe him or not but I replied, "Great! Will you go with me?"
Justin began twirling his tongue ring on his lips, again...gah, why did I think that was so sexy?? He finally said, "Yeah, babe. I'll go with you."
We were traveling down the interstate with the windows down. Justin had his seat reclined almost to full laying down position.
He raised up and began shedding his pullover. "Gah, it's fuckin hot in here."
"Sorry. My air conditioning is broke right now." I sped up trying to get more wind in the car when Justin started laughing. "What so funny?" I asked.
He covered his face with his hands and said, "I never imagined I would be in a car with you and still have my clothes on." He continued laughing, but I thought the statement was very inappropriate.
"Why do you always say things like that to me?" I asked. The band Chevelle was blasting through my speakers, so I turned it down so I could hear Justin.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Justin staring at me. He said, "Gracie, I've always had the hots for you. You are a very sexy girl...but you, obviously don't see it. That makes you even more sexy to me."
Justin raised up again and took off his t-shirt, leaving him in nothing but a black tank. I saw that both of his arms were sleeved with tattoos and that his chest was tattoed and he even had a japanese symbol on the right side of his neck.
"What is that one?" I asked as I gently grazed his neck with my fingertip.
He grinned and said, "It's a senshi. It means 'warrior' in japanese."
"That's a strange symbol to get for a tattoo," I said mostly to myself. Justin, heard me though, and replied, "I got it when my buddy got shot up."
I immediately felt bad for saying that. "Oh...I'm sorry, Justin."
He smiled again and said, "It's fine, babe. Do you have any secret tattoos?" I glanced over at him and saw a playful smile spread across his face.
"...No...I don't." I focused back on the road and tried to keep a straight face.
I heard Justin chuckle and then he asked, "You do, don't you?! Where's it at?"
I rolled my eyes and got angry with myself for letting him figure me out. "It's on going down my left side," I simply replied.
"...Let me see it." Justin's tone had become a little husky and I didn't object when I felt his hand lifting up the left side of my shirt.
My tattoo was simple compared to Justin's. It was three words in a beautiful black cursive that said 'Let It Be'. I got in my freshman year of high school when my uncle was murdered in Las Vegas. He was very close to me and still hurt to talk about it...so I didn't tell Justin about it.
I felt his thumb gently run across my skin and then he simply put my shirt back down. "That's really beautiful."
Smiling, I said, "Thanks. I've had since freshman year."
"Oh. I wasn't talking about the tattoo. I was talking about that hot-pink bra. Damn!" He was laughing while my face turned blood red.
This is what I had to face all the way to San Diego?
We entered San Diego's city limits at about 6 o'clock. Justin couldn't stop talking for one minute, but I didn't mind listening to his stories. They were new to me and far better than mine.
Justin was telling about playing football at his old school, when he said, "Maybe...you should pull over there."
"Why? Is this the place?" I asked confused.
He shook his head and said, "No. But, this place sometimes gets packed."
I nodded and pulled into a parking place that cost $2 to park! No matter how much I didn't want to, I paid the teller and pulled my car into the lot.
We got out of the seats and stood outside for a moment. Finally, I was going to see Matthew! After all these days, I was going to see my best friend.
"Hey, babe, you ready to go?" Justin, who I forgot was there, was about three feet away from walking in the direction away from me.
I smiled and said, "Yes! Wait for me."
We walked for about 15 minutes and then stopped at a huge tower with a building connected to it. Justin held his arms out and stopped me.
"Now, before we go in here...Grace. I don't know why your friend is in here but you have to be careful."
Justin was worrying me. "What are you talking-"
I didn't finished, because I saw the sign out front. I nearly passed out.
