One of the dreadful things of my junior year was having english and literature with Mr. Carratine for the last class of the day. However, one of the positive things was I had it with Josh...and it was a class that he had to talk to me. Every Thursday Mr. Carratine would assign our rows into groups and it never fails that me and Josh get put together. "Alrighty, folks, you know the drill. Thursday afternoons we get in groups. You know your group number...Chop! Chop!" Josh came right up to me and poked me in the arm. "Here I am again, Buttons." He gave me one of his movie-star smiles and my heart just melted. "Well, let's get started then." This time, our lesson was over Macbeth. We were having to determine the protagonist and the antagonist in the story. All of a sudden, Mr. Carratine came over to us and said, "Nicole, Josh we have a student who is partnerless today. Do you care if he works with you?" Josh and I both said we wouldn't mind but now I wish I would have. The 'partnerless' student was none other than Milo. "Hey, Nicole...um sorry about lunch today. I'm happy you let me work with you." Before I could comment on that remark, Josh replies, "You know, Molo...or Milo or whatever your name is, I'm in this group too and you're going to have to share Nicole's attention. Got it?" I bit my tongue, trying hard not to laugh out loud. Milo in turn said, "Um...yeah, sorry. I understand." I looked towards Josh's direction and he gave me a little smirk and continued looking up his answers.
Right as the last bell rung, Mr. Carratine bellowed over the students in the halls, "Wait! I need to see Josh Princeton and Nicole Bishop after class." We looked at each other and shrugged. When the last lagging student left, Mr. Carratine closed the door and crossed his arms. "Miss Bishop, this has nothing to do with you...yet. Mr. Princeton, you should know by now, that your grades are dropping and rapidly." Josh, until now, had had his head drooped down and not really paying attention. But, now, he spoke up and said, "Mr. Carratine, I have tried real hard this year! Honest. It's because football practice and swim team relays. I don't have time to study!" Mr. Carratine shook his head and replied, "Then perhaps you have to much on your plate, Joshua. You were a very good student, once...top of your class, until you made all the sports teams. Now, this is where Nicole comes in." Both of them looked in my direction and I kinda took a step back. "Why am I in this pardicament, Sir?" I asked Mr. Carratine. He said, "Miss Nicole, you are my highest average in all of my classes. So, I want you to tutor Mr. Princeton." Me? Tutor someone?! And above all, tutor Josh?? "Mr. Carratine, I would be happy to help Josh, but isn't it a little too late. We only have tomorrow and then we're out for the summer." Josh wasn't really listening anymore. I could tell he was furious at Mr. Carratine. "Yes, I know of the upcoming summer break, Miss Bishop. You will be tutoring Joshua over the summer and recording his progress." "What," Josh exclaimed, "the whole summer?!" Mr. Carratine stifled a laugh and said, "Yes, Mr. Princeton, you will be spending three whole months with Nicole." I noticed Josh kinda blush and then he replied, "I'm not worried about spending the summer with B..I mean Nicole, it's that I have football sectionals and upcoming swim practices!" Mr. Carratine shook his head and said, "You'll just have to make time, Mr. Princeton. Now get out of my room."
I awkwardly walked beside the now angered Josh and thinking to myself: How could my summer get any better??, right as Chloee walked up to Josh and planted a big kiss on his lips. In her puertan rican accent, she asked, "How the love of my life?" I wanted to vomit right in front of them, but I just acted normal. Josh pretended to be happy and put on a fake grin, "I'm good, baby." Chloee clapped her hands like a dumb three-year old and said, "Good, I'm happy you're happy! Unfortunately, I have to make you boo-hoo." Josh scrunged up his eyebrows in confusion and said, "What do you mean, Sweetheart?" Before Chloee answered, she looked over at me and glared. She looked me up and down and asked, "Do you mind?" I began stammering, "Oh! S...sorry, I was...just-" "Leaving...yeah I know. B-bye!"
Just as I was about to turn around, Josh grabbed my arm and said, "Wait, Bu...Nicole. Chloee, this is one of my best friends, Nicole." I smiled but not to be polite to Chloee. Josh's hand was still gently wrapped around my arm and he was turning me to jell-o. Chloee noticed his arm, too. "It was nice meeting you, Nicole. Sorry, I can't stay and chat but me and Josh have to talk about something." Before he was tugged away, Josh rolled his eyes and showed me his signature, goofy grin. "See ya around, Buttons," he said to me in a hush-tone. I waved goodbye when deep down I was doing flips.
