I spent the hours of waiting by sitting down then getting up, going outside and coming back in, and pacing the floor. Why was Josh's surgery taking so long?! The nurses knew what I have been through, so every now and then, one of them would bring me a coffee or water and tell me as much as they could.
After about two hours, I heard the opening of the front doors. I turned and saw Harold and Ellen, Jenny, and of course Shadow. I could tell that Ellen had been crying and Harold had no expression on his face.
Even though they may have been mad at me, I jumped up and hugged each of them. They welcomed me with open arms and we cried together.
"Oh Ellen! I'm so sorry this happened...I feel like it's all my fault." I couldn't help but cry again because I was simply lost. I didn't know what I was suppose to do if Josh didn't make it! He was my life, now. Everything revolved around him...
Ellen wiped away some of my tears and replied, "Honey, don't say things like that. It isn't your fault...we're glad something didn't happen to both of you. You wouldn't have been able to get help!"
What Ellen said was true. If I would've been stabbed, also, Josh and I wouldn't have survived.
"You're right, Ellen. But still...if something happens to him--"
Ellen shook her head. "No ma'am. We won't discuss that right now...we just need to pray."
I nodded and felt a little hand grab onto my sleeve. I looked down and Jenny was crying. "Is my brother going to be ok?"
Holding back tears, I bent down and said, "Yeah, Jenny. You're brother is a tough guy! He'll pull through..."
She wrapped her arms around my lower half and squeezed me tight. "I hope so. He's my only brother."
Together, the Princeton family and I, sat in the waiting room. We were growing frustrated, but finally, the surgeon came in. Harold and Ellen stood up and walked over to him and I stayed with Jenny.
I tried to read the surgeon's lips, to see what he was saying, but it was no use. Ellen and Harold were blocking him from my view. They walked back over to us and I could have swore they had the look of relief on their faces.
Ellen started, "Josh is out of surgery and in a recovery room. They successfully removed the rock and was able to stop the bleeding. However, he did lose alot of blood, so he'll have to stay for a couple of days."
Tears started coming down again, only, they were tears of relief. I started repeating, "Thank you God! Thank you God!" and Harold, for the first time, smiled.
Ellen kissed Harold on the cheek and then looked over at me. "The doctor said we can go in and see him...one at a time. We want you to go in first, Nicole."
"Are you sure? You're his family!"
She smiled and replied, "You're family, too, honey! Go in there and see your boyfriend!"
I, quickly, hugged them all and said, "Thank you so much Ellen and Harold! I love you so much!"
"He's on level C, room 15." Ellen stated then waved me on.
On the elevador, I stood there motionless. I was so relieved and glad that Josh would be ok! The elevador doors opened and I stepped off, but stopped.
For some reason, I was nervous...nervous about seeing Josh.
