I hate picture day. It's absolutely pointless. The photographers pretend to be friendly when, really, they're super creepy. I stood in line with my homeroom and waited for them to call my name. The good thing is I wasn't the only one dressed up. I was wearing a silky, red V-neck shirt with a white denim skirt that came up to the tops of my knees. I was constantly pulling it down-no wonder all the guys were staring at me with want in their eyes.
I scanned the auditorium, looking for his face. I knew he would be here because the pictures were mandatory. Finally, I found him in the back with Chloee and his best guy friend, Malcolm. Josh saw me and waved at me. I politely waved back and was going to look away but he motioned for me to come back there. What was I suppose to do? Should I go over there?? After much deliberating (not much really) I made my way to the back of the auditorium.
"Hey Nicole! Long time, no see," Malcolm said to me, smiling. Malcolm was always with me and Josh in elementary school. "Hey, Malcolm. It has been a long time, hasn't it?" Josh watched us intently and it could be just me, but I thought that I saw jealousy. Chloee, on the other hand, couldn't stand me being in her presence. "Aren't you getting your picture made?" Chloee rudely asked me. This time, instead of stampering, I stood my ground and said, "Um...actually, Chloee, they haven't called my class yet...so I'm good here." She gasped, got up and stormed out of the auditorium. Josh and Malcolm busted out laughing and gave me a high-five. Josh said, "Way to go, Button!" I blushed and smiled a radiant smile.
"Ok, next! Miss Nicole Bishop!" The photographer yelled over the auditorium. I almost skipped up the steps, I was so happy. I sat in the position and smiled before the photographer told me to. "Wow, you're ready aren't you, Sweetheart?" He snapped about three photos and then told me I was free to go. Before I left, Malcolm met me at the door and gave me a half-hug. "It was really nice talking to you again, Nicole," he said with his hands in his pockets. He wa so shy, always had been. I put my hand up on his bicep and said, "It was very nice talking to you again, Malcolm. I'll see you around." I was about to turn around when he said, "Wait. Um...can I have your number?" Is he really asking me for my number? I grinned and wrote it on his hand. As I was walking out, I told him "Now, don't forget to txt me." Sadly, I didn't see that Josh was watching from across the auditorium and that he was trying to wave goodbye.
I pulled up in my driveway and to my surprise, I was home alone. My parents are never gone, so it's a good thing I had my keys with me. When I got to the doorway, there was a single rose on the mat and a not that said Can't wait to spend the summer with you! I quickly picked it up and went inside. Did Josh really write that note??
