Author's Note: In relation to the previous chapter, there'll be quite a few sexual references. Please excuse them.
We ran and joined the line; nobody had noticed our absence, nobody had missed us.
Thank heavens! Don’t you agree?
Don’t I agree?? Really, Danni? I wish someone had noticed you were gone and had found you being so very…ew! Paul was totally right (I take back whatever I said before about him not getting any/Ginny and Ron comparisons made earlier)—you became a slag in his absence! And now you’ve fallen for your very first Tom! And that’s how I shall refer to the boy who encouraged you into your first sexual activity. You never really thought of it before; did you, Danni? *Sigh* Tom’s awfully horrible!
Never mind. I should have ended at “Thank heavens!” right?
*Growls* You’re going to regret this…like when you meet a guy you really fancy; and wish he’d been your first time!
I doubt it—very simply because I have met a guy I really fancy. Kenny.
Tom!
“Okay, children, follow me!” Miss Kilwa told us. “this way, please…”
Miss Kilwa led us into the first house, a hurriedly built, once upon a time, very wonderfully made up one. She led us through the kitchen and told us about the food they ate, the tools they used. She passed us through the living room and let us handle the homemade cushions, the crocheted rugs and whatnot. She let us test the springy-ness (or lack there of) in the mattress, and Kenny and I lingered in that one room, lay back, hooked pinkies as he whispered, “I hope we end up doing it in a springy bed…” to which I replied, “We could do it in the dark alley next to a Spar—I just want it to be with you.” He looked me straight in the eye—right into my soul; then we got up and followed the rest of the group. Another house later, we were in the last house. A house I’d seen before. I’d been in before, “enjoying” myself. As soon as I glanced at the bedroom—the bed and floor in specific—I felt myself become wet again.
No need for lubrication where you’re concerned, right, Danielle? *smiles sweetly*
Don’t act like you didn’t like it.
Um, well, uh—it’s not a matter of whether I liked it or not—
But you just…happened to?
*Sighs and gives in* Yeah. I ‘just happened’ to.
“Vicky—it’s odd. You just stopped dating one of That group, and now Danni is now. Luckily not the same one,” Jody noted.
“Yeah—lucky for Danni,” Vicky said vengefully. She turned to look directly at me. “Dumisani’s a worm. A lying, stupid insect. He even looks like one.”
“Somebody’s a little sour…” Tayleigh mentioned casually, eyes narrowing as she scrutinized Vicky’s reaction to the comment.
“That’s swak, guys,” Tabitha’s mouth turned down in a frown. “Leave Vicky alone.”
“Yeah,” Zoe agreed. “leave Vicky alone. She’s upset about Dumi--.”
Vicky’s eyes flashed. “No I’m not!” she snorted carelessly. “Just warning her, ‘tis all. I have no patience for Dumisani—not anymore.”
“Such retarded one-track, gossip-filled minds,” I murmured, incredulous, to Rachel. I knew they wouldn’t hear us; NHs were used to listening to loud, dominating noises—aka shouts—to get their attention. A whisper sparked their interest, but something I murmur under my breath doesn’t bother them in the slightest.
“First you and Kenny, now back to Vicky and Dumi. And they’re long gone—their relationship, I mean,” Rachel replied in the same tone. “gosh—they should go off and get boyfriends of their own, the thing they measure their very status from.”
“Has everyone forgotten Danni?” Carmen asked to no one in particular.
“No one cares about Danni at the moment!” Jody replied blissfully. “Dumi and Vicky’s break-up is the new thing now.”
“New thing?” Rachel exclaimed, forgetting to keep her voice down. She sighed, shaking her head.
“What?!” Carmen, Tayleigh, Zoe and Sienna asked.
“What new thing?” Zoe asked inquisitively.
“…” I could almost see Rachel’s disapproval, but her face revealed nothing. She wasn’t here to make enemies—nor friends.
“Nothing important,” she was brushing them off, and even the NHs got that. Regarding her as pompous and an AP2 snob (Rachel? Ha!), they deftly moved on.
What did you just say?
…
*smirks* doesn’t matter. It still came out—and I heard you.
…*sighing and crying*
Sorry. *shrugs* Make up your mind to talk when you get over Kenny and me being together.
*muffles* Tom!
Fine. Tom.
They continued to talk—about the weekend and whatever.
“Did you hear about Tarina’s party?” Tabitha asked everybody.
“Yes,” Nadine continued, “she planned to have this amazingly huge party at…um, I forgot the name. you know where we have the Quintonne Fair annually? Well—there. There were going to be massive rides, and, there’s a rumor Adele was going to go sing! But, the party was to be tomorrow—when we’d all be at tour—and all of her friends decided to go on tour instead! So, the party was cancelled—and she’ll be having one when we return. But it’s going to a small braai this time and she’s mega pissed at all her friends, particularly Julie and Tamzin who thought the spa and resort would be better and dragged the rest along!”
“No!” Jody exclaimed, as if she were simple.
“Yes!” Tabitha replied, and they all laughed. I caught Rachel’s eye and we both raised our eyebrows.
“Heaven help us,” I muttered, with a small, pitiful laugh.
Rachel grinned. “Chill—we’re not out to tea with the devil and his spawn, are we?”
“Are we?” I repeated.
“I think they’d be a bit more…cunning and sly. And to be cunning and sly you have to be just a little smart, eh?”
“Swak!” I playfully (and definitely painlessly) hit her arm. “Rachel!”
Kenny caught my eye and winked; and I felt my face become hot. Half an hour later (we’d spent an hour there) we were back in our way to our final destination: Lumi’s Spa and Resort®. And, two hours of snacking and idle conversation with Jody’s new found friends and Rachel (we had to move—I couldn’t sit in front of Kenny. Knowing I was so close to him might’ve made me jump onto of him, do him right there. Sooo…after a few arguments, Rachel and I ended up across from Jodes, Sienna and Shannon. I couldn’t see Kenny from my seat—but he decided to make me feel awfully uncomfortable by turning around often and just watching me, kissing his finger, and holding it up. At times like these, I’d mimic the gesture and lean my finger slightly forward, as if our fingers could touch. Sienna and Vicky (as well as Nadine and Tayleigh) found so many comments to make about us…
“Kenneth?? Ay, Danni—I know you’re alone; but this is just becoming desperate…”—Tayleigh.
“Oh, gosh, now you have-like-an infiltrator. Ask Kenneth to ask Dumisani about me, will you?”—Vicky.
“When did this happen—how did I not here about it?”—Sienna.
“Ooooooooh…Danni and Kenneth, sitting on a bus, k-i-s-s-i-n-g!”—Nadine. “must’ve been fun, eh?”
Rachel just looked at me as if to say, “Eh—how childish. But what do you really expect from immature NHs?”
I’d always reply to these looks with a smile and quiet whisper. “Bear with them—please.”
What you really mean is ‘put up’ with them, but…
You’ve been rather quiet lately.
I’m in a huffy with you, if you must know!
Oh, alright.
Aren’t you the least bit worried or apologetic—if not about me; but about your mental state of being?? If I end up disliking you, I could, I could…well, take away your common sense—
I didn’t really use it much anyway. Instinct sounds cooler, but always ends up so much worse.
Aaargh! *agitated* I could trip you again!
What good would that really do? Kenny would have to kiss it better—and if it’s on my thigh…
SLUT! *disgusted with self*
You put the thought there.
…
Brain? Hey—I was just joking…
…
Hello? *feeling slightly worried* Sulk, then. It’s fine.
…
WOULD YOU FUCKING TALK TO ME?
WOULD YOU STOP WANTING TO FUCK?
I give up.
Oh, I washed my hands of you a long time ago.
