Chapter 2 Boys Right Next Door
All 4 of us were on the sofa just bored as hell staring at the television. I thought this college was odd because there were only 2 dorms in 1 floor. There were about 20 floors in one building. I think there were over 1,000 buildings on campus. If you drove to the next block there would be the college where your classes would be. We were on the 18th floor.
Someone knocked on our door and my friends and I slowly opened the door. To our surprise it was 4 boys who were actually our neighbors next door. They looked into our eyes and stuttered, “UM…..here’s a baked cake for you guys…we. We were just happy that you guys were actually our one and only neighbors.”
We welcomed them in, but they refused a couple of times. Soon they entered our dorm and we were all playing games together and talking about all sorts of things. They announced that they were a group named Dong Bang Shin Ki. I thought that this was an awkward name, but it was still all right.
They introduced themselves and showed us what kind of music they played. Their names were Micky, Max, Yunho, and Hero. They were awesome friends!! I can’t believe that ever since I arrived to this college I’ve made 7 friends. That was really quick, I never had friends before and I made 7, wow. I must be very amazing or something. They finally showed us what kind of music they did and it was pop. They had already made up a cd. It was called rising sun.
The next day everyone went to class and I noticed that all 8 of us were in the same classes. The teacher was a woman with red tips on her hair. It was kind of pinkish instead of red.
The teacher smiled at the boys in front and they were grossed out by her face. 1 boy groaned and the teacher grabbed her long stick on the chalk board. She gripped her stick and she aimed at his desk. She smashed the desk and she screeched ,”How dare you groan at me!! Do you think I’m ugly? I have worked really hard to get a face like mine. It took me years to make my face this perfect.”
The boy nodded in fear of her going to hit him. He replied ,”Madam you are gorgeous…. I mean, I have never seen anyone so beautiful.” She let go of the stick and touched her face. “Oh really? Am I that astonishing?” The boy nodded trying to hide his lie.
“Hello class. I’m Ms. Kim and you can call me Kimmy if you’d like. Don’t be ashamed.” She walked up to the chalk board with her stick. She tried her best to look as beautiful, but no man in the class looked at her. They all stared at the other girls in school.
The teacher really wanted to become a singer, but couldn’t accept the fact that she didn’t have the skills to do so. This teacher didn’t have an excellent voice, but she knew an awful lot about the music.
Class was over and the next class was lunch. I packed my things to get to the lunch room. There was a sushi bar close to our school. There were people cooking in front of us. The sushi bar was called Shikaru. I began to like it. All my friends were fighting over who should pay for the sushi. I tried to avoid them so that they wouldn’t choose me to buy.
They finally decided that Jinnie should pay for everything because she owned the most money and they found out that she was extremely rich. Because I was 23 I was able to drink bear. I bet your thinking, why’d she go to college when she’s 23 right? My parents took 5 years to gain all of the money for my college expenses and bills.
I was very poor and no one knew that here. I felt lonely because everyone at school owned a television and yet I didn’t have one. I felt left out. I know that I sound like a spoiled brat, but being here in this rich school with nothing but a guitar. I feel very lonely and left out.
After we sat down at our spot we spoke to each other. Hero blurted out ,”Why don’t we all play a game of truth. You have to tell the truth no matter what, okay?” We all agreed to play. I didn’t know it was going to be telling every secret you ever had though.
Everyone had to vote who to go first, but some reason everyone pointed towards me. I almost jumped from my seat. “Why me?” “Oh come on, Jenny.” They asked ,”Have you ever kissed a boy?” I told them ,”Well, kind of.” Everyone yelled out ,”Please tell us.” I had no choice, but to tell them what had happened.
I told them about my first love and how everything had started. When I was young and about 16 years old. I had a boyfriend, his name was James. He was so kind and tender. He really loved to play the piano. At the end he wrote a song for me. It was called Feeling of love. It was such a great song, but something really bad had happened to him and I didn’t want to say so.
The first kiss I had was when I was at a fountain. I first heard that James was going to America. I was very depressed at this and the fountain was where I was going to meet him last. As I walked down the steps to the fountain I waited there. I saw James coming towards me with a smile. He sat next to me in front of the fountain. We were talking about what would happen after he left.
“Jenny, don’t ever change okay? After I leave I’ll always love you. Just remember me okay? Someday I’ll come back for you and I’ll meet you again.” My tears spilled out at the thought of him leaving. He wiped away my tears with his soft thumb. My tears were endless and I couldn’t help them. To stop my crying he had kissed me. James held my face and he lowered his head to reach my lips. His lips softly touched mine and I began to blush instead of cry. My tears stopped immediately and only my thoughts blocked my tears. I only thought of him kissing me. I loved him so much, but after that night I heard that he died of a car accident. He was heading towards the air port, but there was too much traffic and they were in a hurry. Another car hit them and they died. It wasn’t just another car. It was a huge truck and he was injured badly and he ended up dying. I was there at the hospital. He didn’t die immediately. He died after he had woken up from the hospital. I guess he had one last message to tell me.
He held onto my hands as I sat next to the bed watching him. He whispered into my ears. “I love you, Jenny and I’ll never forget you. I’ll always be with you, in your heart. I don’t care if you fall in love with another man, just as long as you live happily.” He slowly reached into his pocket and handed me a necklace. “It’s yours. Cherish this forever and remember me.” After his last sentence his eyes closed and he had died. I burst out crying. I couldn’t help, but to feel very sad.
I couldn’t get over this until 3 years. I was 19 when I didn’t feel as sad as before. I still cried when I thought of him though. When I told this to my friends. My tears had come out as I finished. They began to feel sad for me. They cried with me as they listened to my story.
I slowly sneaked into the bathroom of the restaurant to see how clean and neat it was. Usually every restaurant I went to was not as clean as this place. The bathroom was Japanese style and it had beautiful paintings of a waterfall. It had motion in it and it was amazing. I have never seen anything like it. It was so great I couldn’t even believe it. This convinced me to stay in the bathroom more longer. It was amazing to have to go to a rich college like this. No wonder my parents had taken a long time to pay for my tuition.
This reminds me of when I used to disobey my parents. I used to play my guitar instead of doing my homework. My mom would always get mad at me and make me do my homework. Sometimes she’d steal my guitar away from me and I’d have to live for a week without it. It was so terrifying to me. I was totally obsessed with my guitar.
I also remember when I only had 1 piercing on my ears. My mom didn’t care if I had my second piercing. She just wanted me to be happy. I had awesome parents except the part where they were really poor. Now, I have 6 piercings, but before I only had 1. My mom would persuade my dad to getting me a piercing. She’d say it’s for my happiness and I’d work harder in school.
I was starting to miss all of those little problems. Now, in my college I wouldn’t get any complaints so I feel different. My parents used to always complain and now I miss that. I also miss my parents. I looked at the mirror and saw my own reflection. I looked way different from long time ago.
I went out of the bathroom to see everyone sleeping. I didn’t know what those boys were doing, but I knew that my friends were asleep. My friends lay their heads on the table and they were snoring. I barely drank any bear so I wasn’t drunk at all. I slowly led one person at a time to the taxi. I told the man in the taxi to wait for me to get all of my friends. It took me a while to get everyone to the taxi. They were really heavy. I had to make them walk with me slowly.
I went in the front of the taxi and said. “Please take us to University Street.” He nodded and began driving. The taxi driver played a song on the radio gently. There was a song on the radio. It was called Miracles. I fell asleep after a while. The music was so smooth and soft that I couldn’t help, but to feel tired.
The taxi driver gently tapped my shoulder and said ,”Miss…. Um…. We’re here. Your friends left the taxi. They were drunk so they weren’t able to see you. One of those girls paid for the taxi.” I woke up and nodded ,”Thanks.” As I walked out of the taxi I saw how cold it was. I could see my breathe  in the darkness.
I looked up at the skies and I saw the stars in the sky. It was so beautiful. I loved the night, it was so beautiful. As I walked up the stair cases to my dorm. There were so many stairs. I walked slowly up the stairs. Suddenly, as I walked a pink petal fell on my nose. I picked it off my face and saw that it was a beautiful pink petal. I looked up to see the pink blossom trees. The leaves were falling out already. It’s going to get cold soon. I couldn’t believe it was already autumn. I thought, this is a great time to take a picture. The trees are so beautiful
I dug my backpack for my camera. I found my camera at the very bottom of my bag. I took out my camera and took a picture. I smiled and fixed my hair. I took the picture and there was a huge flash as I did. I turned to camera to see how I looked. I whispered ,”It’s so beautiful.” I took out a huge breath and said, “This is great. I never knew that this type of college would be great. I’m so smart. I got accepted into Harvard.
As I walked up the steps I saw a fountain at the top of the steps. The fountain was round and water was coming from the top.  I sat down on the edge of the fountain. I saw a man playing his guitar gently. I thought he was very good at playing the guitar. He played a soft song that I didn’t know. I pulled out 20 bucks from my wallet and put it in his guitar case.
He smiled at me and he kept on playing. After he finished his song. I asked him, “Would you like to take a picture with me? I want to remember seeing you play the guitar. I love pictures, it helps me remember things.” He replied ,”Of course, I’d love to take pictures with you.”  We took a picture together and I thanked him. “Thanks. I really appreciate it and by the way, I love your music. You should seriously  become a singer. I’ll buy your cd some day. Even though I had an ipod I still could import it onto Itunes.
Today was an awesome night and I wanted to keep this as a memory. Many people were having the life. I saw many couples in the night. I saw a boy and a girl on a bench flirting. I pretended like I didn’t see them. I also saw some couples kissing on the sidewalk. I tried not looking at them.
I finally reached my dorm. As I tried putting my keys in I saw Micky come out of his own dorm. I asked him, “Hey,…” He replied, “Hey, Jenny….. What are you doing outside so late.” I responded, “Oh, I was just hanging out outside. Why are you out?” He said, “Oh, I just wanted to get some fresh air. I didn’t feel like going to sleep much.”
He asked me, “You want to go out?” I pointed at my key. “Oh,….. Um…. Sure.” I locked the door again. I nodded, “Okay.” We walked to the elevator. His bangs were on his eyes and I only saw his lips and his nose. I still saw his eyes, but his bangs were still covering it.
The elevator door opened and I walked into the elevator with Micky. As I waited I put my hands in my jacket pocket. I waited in the elevator till we were there. The elevator door opened. We stepped out and we left the dorm till we were outside. I took a deep breath and said, “The air is so fresh!” He looked at me and said, “Yeah…” We kept on walking till we saw shops. We walked pretty far. I started to get really cold. So I linked my arms in Micky’s. He almost jumped when I did. “This feels kind of weird.” I replied, “Just hold still…. I’m really cold. By the way, we’re only friends so it won’t matter if I hold onto your arms.”
He replied, “Is it that cold?” I nodded and kept my arms linked to his. I put my head on his shoulders and watched his warm breath. I noticed that we were alike. Micky and I were alike. Micky usually never drank bear so he wouldn’t get drunk. Neither did I, but I felt like drinking today for some reason. I didn’t get to drink at the restaurant. “Micky, did you know that if you drink bear it makes you feel less cold outside?” “Really? I never knew that.” I replied, “My mom told me this when I first turned 21.” He said, “You want to drink bear?”
I said, “Yeah, I kind of do. I didn’t get to drink at the restaurant because Jinnie and Jane were too busy talking to me about my first kiss. They fell asleep before I even drank.” He said, “I’ll take you out to drink. I’d love to.” I clanged onto his arm more and said, “Really? Thanks a lot.”
He took me to a restaurant on the streets. It had a tent and they sold bear. I sat at those small tables and we both drank. I got drunk after two bottles of bear. So did Micky. We walked around drunk. We found a bench and I sat there next to Micky. “Did you know that if it wasn’t for my first love I wouldn’t have wanted to be a singer?” He said, “Really?” I laughed, “Guess what’s so funny? It’s been a long time since he’s been gone, but I still can’t stop crying.” I lowered my head to cry. He put his hand on my shoulders and said, “It’s alright. Don’t cry.” His cheeks were bright red and so was mine. We were extremely drunk. I didn’t even know what I was doing at this time.
He turned me towards him and my face was just an inch from his face. He put his arms around my waist and I put my hands on his shoulders. He moved his head forward. He told me, “You know that you look really pretty close up?” I laughed, “So do you.” He got closer to me and so did I. His lips finally touched mine and we were kissing. I closed my eyes and so did Micky.
His breath smelled really good and I loved his scent. I just wanted to stay like that forever, but I couldn’t. I didn’t know why, but I just wanted to stay like that even though I was drunk. That was my second kiss, but it was even longer then my first.
