…………. Sam talked on his cell phone as we drove out of the city his sleek black and blue car eating up the road I ran my fingers over the gray and black pattern on the door it matched the case of his cell phone and the laptop he’d got.

“Sorry about that we’ve got a shipment heading out to Europe tonight and there’s a few things still to be ironed out” He sighed as he hung up.

“Should we go home…? If you have to work then it’s understandable” I shrugged the butterflies in my stomach we’re swirling like crazy

“No” he looked at me and shook his head “I said we were going out for dinner and we can’t waste how cute you look can we?” he smiled at me I looked down. We pulled up at a restaurant along side of a lake, Sam got out and walked round to me and opened the door. He looked round checking out every car in the parking lot as I got out. He put his hand in the small of my back the heat from it passing easily through the thin cotton. “Cold?” Sam reached his free hand over and rubbed the goose bumps that had sprung up on my arms

“No” I looked down at them slightly puzzled I looked over to Sam as he smiled a knowing smile and the hand on my back slid round my waist pulling me closer to his body “Why the smile?” He looked at me and reached for the door still keeping me tucked against him.

“Nothing really” he shrugged the hostess stepped forward

“Table for Two?” she beamed with a smile whiter than snow

“Please” Sam nodded “can we get one of the far booths?”

“Of course” she turned on the ball of her foot and literally bounced as she walked I cocked my head to the side and watched her.

“Do I walk like that?” I whispered as she did the spinny thing again on her feet and waited for us to get to the table

“No” Sam chuckled “your butt just…” he stopped and got wide eyed as he realized what he was saying I looked down and slid into the one side of the booth as he got in the other

“Your server will be here in a few minutes” the hostess grinned “Enjoy your meal” she put menus’ on the table in front of us and bounced away

“Wow” I leant round the side of the booth and watched her I took a deep breath and sat upright my hands in my lap.

“so did you have fun with Evie and Lyra today?”

“It was… different” I smiled running my fingers through my hair the purple streaks catching the light “I get lost in the conversation sometimes though and…” I chewed my lip

“And” he tipped his head and looked at me

“I feel stupid” I shrugged as I toyed with the table cloth “I didn’t know the difference between getting butterflies and feeling ill” I felt tears prick my eyes

“You didn’t go to school did you?’ Sam lowered his voice I shook my head “So who were you supposed to learn from. Did you get to watch TV, talk to people?” I pinched the bridge of my nose “Tricia we all learn from life, from what’s round us from school and friends” he moved round in the booth and took my hands in his “You’ve never had that” he took a deep breath “you’ve now got friends that won’t laugh at you, won’t think you’re dumb because you don’t know something. I’ll admit it freaked me out when you told me you can never remember being hugged but now I want to help you” he touched my face turning it to his he thumbed away a tear that had escaped.

“Hi, I’m Dina can I get drinks for you” another perky waitress came over, there was no way with boobs that big she could see her feet.

“I think we changed our minds” Sam said gently “we’re going to get dinner at home” he moved out of the booth and offered me his hand.

I’d upset him obviously, even with the kind words he didn’t want to be out to dinner with the emotional wreck in front of him. He was confusing, one minute he was kissing me and the next he was distancing himself. We walked out and over to the car.

“Let’s go home and we can eat there and talk about a few things” he stopped me walking and turned me to face him

“You don’t’ have to be nice” I looked up at him slowly “I know it’s hard for a guy like you to…”

“Don’t” he sighed pulling me to him and resting his forehead against mine “Please let me talk to you about things and maybe it will become easier for you” he pulled back.

We got in the car and headed back to the house, He took out his phone and called Roger and asked for food to be set up in his room for the two of us. I looked out of the passenger window my fingers playing with one of the cuffs at my wrists. Sam reached over and took one of my hands linking his fingers with it and laying it on his thigh as he drove.

“I have to apologize for a few things” he finally said as we pulled up at home

“You haven’t done anything” I looked at him and frowned

“I have” he sighed turning to face me “and I crossed a line that I shouldn’t have without you knowing what was happening” he lifted my hand and toyed with my fingers.

“Sam you’re making me feel dumb again”

“I’m sorry lets go inside and…” the door to the car opened and Mary stood there

“I’ve been trying to call you”

“No you haven’t” Sam let go of my hands and opened the door

“Casper Novak has been trying to reach you and the boss is out”

“Casper has my number he can reach me” Sam snapped slamming his door and reaching for my hand again as I walked round. “Now back off Mary or I swear to god you’ll regret it” this was a threat issued in a growl like way that had me shrinking a way a little.

“I took the flowers to the grave this morning, you know the ones for Her birthday” Sam hesitated and I could feel him shaking through his grip on my hand “Gone and forgotten Huh Sam?” She walked over the gravel drive heading toward the stables. I looked at Sam. His eyes were filled with sadness and tears as he took deep breaths. I squeezed his hand, he looked at me and smiled meekly

“Lets go inside” his voice wasn’t as strong as normal as I opened the front door and we went inside…..
