He was lying and we both knew it. He wasn't going to get any better… He was dying. I couldn't concentrate, trying to process everything that happened but also trying to soothe him. It was surreal sitting next to him with his hand in mine without arguing or screaming bloody murder. I wasn't used him being so quiet, with no one to command or to control.
I thought I'd like to see this side of him, the calm and relaxed Alpha but it wasn't as great as I thought it would be. He was scared, the strong and mighty Alpha was terrified, knowing death could be knocking at his door any second.
He began coughing up blood and squeezing my hand in his, this wasn't how it was supposed to end. Nowhere near how I had it planned… but fate was most definitely a bitch.
He began mumbling to himself, his eyes on me and a slight smile on his face.
"What's the matter?" I asked quietly, trying not to let the tears escape from my eyes.
"I'm sorry for being the worst Mate a wolf can have… I love you."
And before I could reply, his heart monitor went silent as he took his last breath whilst looking in to my eyes.
