When I woke up, I was laying in a soft bed. The atmosphere was quiet, and I felt warm under the old fashioned covers that I was laid in. I wasn’t sure what had awoken me? Perhaps it was the light that filtered in through the open window along with the warm breeze? Or maybe the soft tick of the grandfather clock that sat dusted in the room’s corner. I wasn’t sure myself, but there was still that strange sensation in my legs that I couldn’t ignore. First I had to glance down at the covers to assure myself that I still had them, but even at the sight of them it didn’t feel like it. It wasn’t until I tried to move them that panic began to creep its way into emotions. The thing was, I couldn't move them, I couldn’t even feel them. I touched them softly with my fingers, but nothing. I even saw a long scrape running along one, but no, I couldn’t feel them. I was paralyzed, from the fall. It was something that ran across my mind once, but I shut it out with other fabricated cases. Maybe they were asleep? No. Maybe this was a dream? No. I could feel the pit in my stomach form, as i attempted to ponder over the fact that the fall could have truly done it, it was a long fall.
"Hey, Anna, check on the girl will you Dearie?" My eyes widened at the sound of the voice, an older woman? A mother.
"Sure." I gasped feeling that same dark feeling return to me. I had been saved and taken to a cabin home of a family. I knew it. That had to be it. That explained the woodland scenery and the wooden interior of this bedroom. I knew it. This was Scaris's plan. Suddenly I felt my own self concern fade away. Paralyzed legs? No that was nothing compared to what would happen.
It burdened me even more when the door opened and a small ten year old girl entered the room, a smile crossing her face when she saw that my eyes were open. "Mother she's awake!" She cried cheerfully suddenly withdrawing back from the room as footsteps could be heard from outside. I later realized why when the mother widened the gap in the door.
She was quite a beautiful woman, amazing yet pale features, clear blue eyes, long black hair that was tied into a messy bun at the top of her head. Clear skin pink lips, a slender figure. Even her voice when she spoke was like bells. I would have mistaken her for a vampire if it wasn’t for that smile that crossed her features at the sight of me, "Oh, your awake." I forced a smile in return. I had to tell them. I had to tell them somehow, I couldn’t let anything happen to these people. She closed the door behind her, sliding her washcloth into the large pocket on her apron. "Pardon my appearance I was cooking lunch for my husband and my other daughter when they get back from deer hunting."
"Oh, no it’s fine." She sat down on the bed beside of me "How...is your condition?" Her smile faded slightly as mine did and she slowly tugged back the covers over my legs.
I had to tell them. It was only a matter of time.
