"It looks like....paralysis." I nodded my mind wandering. "Arian, you don't seem to mind much." I suddenly shook myself out of the thoughts.
"Oh...sorry."
"Is something else bothering you?" Claire said slightly concerned.
"No..."
"Girl, you're paralyzed in the legs and not reacting a bit too it, what is on your mind?"
I lowered my head in surprise, she was right, I didn’t act it, the paralysis hurt, it hurt badly, but I couldn’t think about it. I had to find a way to save these people.
"You...wouldn't understand." She nodded as if you say "I see." I probably should have been reacting stronger to the paralysis deal but another thing that calmed me was, I knew I still had a good chance. I could be treated, its happened before, I could have merely damaged a few nerves. There had to be a way.
Time passed quickly when I talked to Claire and soon she had to leave. I heard the door to the house open and close, and then the voice of a man spoke over that of another girl. They were back from hunting, they were busy, and it was time to act. I had to get out of here. My attempts started with trying to put my legs on the ground, and from there I used my arms to ease the rest of my bed from the covers. I had to quiet, and after reaching the floor, crawling was a quiet option, even though now I had no choice. All was well with the crawling until i reached the window. I found it rather hard to lift myself through it, and after the second time trying I fell back to my knees breathing hard. I must have looked so pitiful, I felt like it, but I had to get out. I had to get them out of harms way. I had to go to that cursed demon before he tracked me here. This was his lunch. He had in injured me so that I would be taken in by the strangers, and he was following my scent to this house. He was looking for their family.
I winced as I forced myself up, I managed to lift half of my body over the windowsill, but this time I slipped. The last thing I felt was the hard surface of the wooden framing against my head. Then I was out, not even a thought could be fit into that time span, but one realization did. One emotion, dread, I knew that was it.
"Arian! Arain wake up!" It was strange when I awoke. My whole body was shaking, the sun was setting, it was darker, colder. "Arian, the bad man, the bad man!" My eyes suddenly snapped open at the words. My headache was clouding much of my thoughts and I could fully comprehend what they were telling me. "Dad's not moving, mom's bleeding, Arian please wake up!" The voice screamed at me, shaking me harder. I could hear the fear in their voice, I could hear the tears, and slowly I managed top pull my head up, groaning quietly in pain feeling the blood crusted over my eyes. I must have hit it hard. "Arian?" I winced at the voice in my ear and turned my head farther to see one of the small girls, Ann kneeling beside of me. As soon as she saw my face she surprised me with a tight hug, and I could feel her cling on for dear life as loud crashes and echoes rang from the kitchen. There was a struggle, well that was until Claire was thrown through the door, her body slamming limply against the bed post. I could feel Ann move in my grip but I held her there, covering her eyes. Claire’s, beautiful features were contorted in pain, and I wanted to move, I wanted to help her with all I was, but I couldn’t, for seconds later a new figure appeared in the door way. It was a CIA agent in appearance, but I knew better. I was sent here so he could find food. That thought suddenly caused anger to bubble up from within me, and it devoured my own fear in response, but I couldn’t do anything. All I could do was wait, but I tried with what I could.
It took me a moment to gather my voice, but it was when he raised the gun to Clair that I forced it.
"Scaris! Stop, please don't!" It was feeble attempt on my part, but it surprised me when he actually paused, and turned the covered head towards me, its shades covering his features. "Don't do it!" I could feel the tears come to my eyes, and I shut them tightly to try and push them away, but the silence forced me to open them again to the scene. It was just as I had pictured, Scaris standing there before Claire, but an second later, he was gone. At first I had half expected that eh had left me hear, but it was when the wall exploded on the opposite side of the room thatI assumed differently. It was when I realized Clair had nearly hurled him through her own bed room wall that I assumed differently, and most importantly. It was when Claire stood back to her feet and licked the blood from her lip that I assumed differently. I was in utter shock until her voice broke my faze. It was her pleading, yet angered voice that broke my faze.
"Can't you darklings just leaveus alone!?"She screamed, the armored figure prying themselves from the wall as their shattered helmet began to brake away, piece by piece.
"Well that was unexpected." He chocked as the helmets shell fell to the ground, blood dribbling down the side of his face. "Arain, you led me to a rather strange family." He smiled slightly showing the tips of his fangs.
At this Claire suddenly whipped around her blood red eyes accusing as they meet mine angrily. I quickly argued to defend myself. "Claire no, its not what you think! I didn’t want to do this, he planned it all!" She narrowed her eyes for a moment then turned her back to me once again, her figure crouching into a predatory stance.
"Your going to pay for this darkling." She growled before jumping forwards. Scaris responded with running out to meet her, and unknowingly my hand began to move over the hair of the terrified child that now clung to me. I should have known sooner. Claire was a vampire all along.
