I felt a chill go down my spine, as two long fangs glistened from under the cover of the cloaks. I closed my eyes tightly, struggling to refuse. He leaned forward bearing fangs as he pulled my hair back, forcing me to expose my neck.

“Move!” I kept telling myself “Move already!”

For some reason I couldn’t, and even feeling their breath on my neck, I was completely captivated, until I heard the smooth sound of their voice, chuckle “You’re a very interesting human…am I that convincing?”

I froze “W-what?” I managed to murmur.

They spoke in a harsher tone, one that was more serious, but still soft “Get a hold of yourself, and dry off that wrist of yours…it’s too tempting from being locked up for so long.”

I paused for a moment, a sense of confusion washing over my face “W-what?”

They continued to answer, and I could tell that even under the cover of their hood, they were smiling “I’m telling you to play along…scream or something…I’m going to get us out of here, I will explain later.” I was still astonished at the vampire’s behavior, but I was quick to comply. I did manage to make some convincing yells, but they were interrupted as I felt an intense pressure on my hand.

I glanced over in amazement to see that the person was pressing against the wall with their hands, and the walls strangely were cracking “Get ready…” he warned, and I thought I was, until the wall suddenly broke and we both fell forwards.

I was about to hit the ground but was suddenly pulled up, as his hand grabbed my injured wrist and suddenly took of into what seemed to be a tunnel that we had fallen into. I could hear stressed shouts of the hunters behind us, but it was quickly drowned out as we turned a few sharp corners and suddenly dropped into something else.

“Ouch!” I said aloud as we hit the wet bottom of what seemed to be another tunnel. It was dark, and it wasn’t long before I felt his hand begin to lead me deeper into the tunnel, the cries of the hunters muffled. “Shouldn’t we run farther than this?” I said hesitantly.

I could feel his grip loosen on my wrist, yet it continued to guide me through the darkness “Don’t worry…it will take them longer than a little time to find that hole…there are thousands of them up there.”

I walked a little ways, before asking one of the second questions that was urgently trying to escape me “Why aren’t you hurting me…you’re a vampire aren’t you…and they said that you had been locked up for some time?”

His now monotone voice answered calmly “I’m the Prince by force, not by blood, girl. Do you really think that I would have the same self control as those mice?” I thought over it a moment, catching the word girl.

I whispered back to him “My name is Arian…” I said quietly, correcting him

“Arian…who gave you that name?” I responded now finding it easier to converse with the total stranger “My mom.” He laughed “What?” I said quickly.

He breathed in a little “No…I just thought of something.”

I questioned him again “What was it?”

I nearly tripped as we turned a sharp corner the total blackness still not sensing to annoy me “Its…just that name…sounds like anriane…its vampire for.” He chuckled “Snack.” I growled “What?” I said in a high strung voice. He seemed to look back at me; for I saw a glimpse of a glowing silver eye.

“Sorry…I shouldn’t have told you that considering the condition we’re in right now.” I sighed and slowly grew careless in my walking as we turned another corner “I’m so confused.” I stated irritably.

He looked back at me again, slowing slightly “Why?”

I whined back “It’s a long story.”

He answered kindly “Well…we have a ways to go.” I inhaled quietly, then let my breath go  “Well…lets just say, I was in my room this morning…and then I woke up in this weird place…I don’t even know what time of day it is.”

I heard him breath in quietly “I think it’s night.” I questioned him a few seconds later “How…do you know?” He didn’t bother to look back at me this time, but his words sent chills down my spine “It’s because I’m unusually hungry…either because it’s night, or because the smell of that wrist of yours is filling this place.”

I nearly stopped at the sound of his last words, and it was as if he knew what I was thinking because he responded immediately. “Don’t get so tense…I already told you; that entire fight in the arena was just an act.” I walked slowly along with him, a slight ray of radiance guiding my eyes ahead of us “An act…but you attacked me?”

I could hear him laugh at what seemed to be my stupidity “Why do you think I kept attacking from the same spot, and deliberately letting myself hit the wall…I was trying to find out if their was a hollow space behind the wall. The only way I could figure that out was by listening when it was hit by a large force, and where I ran you into the wall, it just seemed to make a different sound to my ears.” I could finally make out part of his figure as we reached a part of the tunnel where light was shining down through some kind of drain.

“Oh…so that was it?” He stopped as we made it under the light, taking a deep breath as he sat down beside of a large pipe.

“I’m so tired…” He said leaning his head up against the cement wall behind him. Obviously we were at an escape. I allowed myself to sit as well, not realizing until now that I was also exhausted.

“What a day.” I was clearly focused on my dim surroundings and the worldly sounds echoing from drain, when the vampire finally decided to remove his hood, I gasped. His hair was indeed a raven black, but now it seemed even darker compared to his pale skin, and his one piercing silver eye, the other eye was a clear dark blue.

His left ear was pierced with a dark metal ring, and what seemed most amazing was that he was absolutely flawless, a perfect model of a human. “What are you staring at?”

He said plainly, his long white fangs clearly showing with the light of the outside world “Do…all vampires…look like you?” I said in awe.

He chuckled “What do you mean by that?” I lowered my head, feeling my face heat up a little “N-nothing.”

I heard him move a little but didn’t pay any attention until he spoke up. “You’re talking about outer appearance.” I lifted my head but froze, finding his face only inches from mine.

There was a moment of silence but I leapt backwards, covering my mouth to hold in a quiet yelp of surprise, my face blushing uncontrollably.

“Don’t do that!” I said loudly.

He smiled leaning back against the wall “Vampires are supposed to look attractive to their prey…it makes them easier to catch.”

I growled back at him “Okay! Just making sure you know, I have had enough experience with the whole, prey and predator thing!”

He closed his eyes, smiling tauntingly “I suppose…but I suggest you should go on and remove that slate over the drain, and get out of here, before someone starts worrying.”

I didn’t move, but sat quietly against the stone walls of the tunnel “What are you going to do when I leave?”

He shrugged casually “I don’t know…I might just sleep here tonight…maybe hunt.”

I was used to the word by now, hunt. I folded my arms over my knees “Can I stay…?”

I didn’t bother to look at his expression, but I knew he was a little surprised “Please?” I added.

He seemed to pause for a moment, a sense of disturbance lingering in his voice “Someone is going to miss you…and I don’t think it’s smart to be in the same area as a vampire at midnight.”

I shuddered “I would be better off here than on the streets with those hunters again.”

I heard him stand up “Come on…I’ll take you back to your house then…it will make it hard for me if the police come searching for you or something.”

I opened my eyes a little pulling myself to my feet in a matter of seconds. “I guess I can’t argue with that.”

He smirked “Oh, you just want me to walk you back home.”

I growled firmly latching my hand on the ladder that led up to the drain “Don’t be so conceited.”

I said climbing up to the metal slate. He smiled up at me “I know…I’m just taking complete advantage over your humiliation…human reactions can be so funny.” I glared down at his face but his expression didn’t change.

Then lifting my gaze back up to the fresh world, I pushed up the slate, and crawled through it to find myself in the back alley of a new world, a world that I now didn’t take for granted. The vampire didn’t take long to follow and within a minute he was beside me, pushing the metal cap back over the escape.

Our walk back to the house was calm with only the occasional questions.

“You should start attending after school classes now” I looked at him, strangely “What?”

He answered me calmly as if expecting my response, his soothing voice seeming to force me to listen. “The hunters…can only capture you when you’re alone…and now that you’ve escaped they’re going to be looking for you.” I nodded, a sense of understanding washing away at my confusion.

There was another moment of silence as the lights of my house came into view “By the way…you never told me your name.” He looked down at me, the light of the moon causing me to notice a raven feather that had been woven into his hair, it had been hidden from me the entire day, because of his matching hair color.

“Scaris.” I thought over it for a moment, swearing that I caught a sense of tiredness in the last word.

“Scaris…” I repeated it to myself. “It means vengeance.”

Before long a new wave of silence settled between us, my house growing nearer and nearer, until we reached the sidewalk. I could hear his breathing, it was more irregular now, and that bothered me, but I didn’t expect anything big compared to what happened next.

He walked me up to the front door, and quietly knocked, reaching over my head. There was silence for a moment within the lit home but soon the door, opened to my step mother, her messy blonde hair draping over her shoulders.

“Arian!” She threw the door open embracing me with a tight hug, one that I didn’t care to return. She pulled back, her voice glossed with concern.

“Who is the boy?” A voice said from behind Jenna, it was Pete.

I watched as Jenna opened the door, beckoning me to come in, and reluctantly I followed.
