Chapter 25
Xavier POV
This is not good; I couldn’t have missed them, could I?
I was about to head on down when two guys zoomed past me, tossing a hard drive in the air. I swiftly caught it and stuffed it in my pocket, shoving both of them aside as I slid between them. I accelerated as I went down, whizzing past the trees and chuckling as I heard the shots behind me.
Warning! Dr- I read on the sign before passing it completely. What?
Before I could even react, I was airborne. Fuck my life. I bent down and did a nose grab, then landed with a thud as my board slid across the snow. I was about to jump in joy at my success when a girl wearing a bright neon jacket suddenly appeared in front of me.
What the hell? I swerved around her and urged myself to go faster when one of the guys fell as well. I reached my hand inside my pocket. Shit, the hard drive. Where was it? I twisted my board and came to a complete stop within 5 seconds, and turned around. As I preceded take off one of the locks on my snowboard, the man hacked me in the back and snowboarded past me. Before I could even get to my feet, I heard a loud boom.
You’ve gotta be kidding me.
Scarlett’s POV
When I heard the ear-piercing roar I knew something was wrong. There was a low rumbling when suddenly I was bombarded by a pile of snow. Avalanche? Before I could scream for help snow filled my mouth and nose burying me entirely, then everything became obscured and I blacked out. By the time I came to, I was shivering from the cold, half suffocated and half crushed. With my foot wedged between the thick layers snow, I moved my hands to create a space for my head to breath. Gradually, I was able to push away most of the snow, creating a makeshift cave. I bent painfully over to remove the snow board, and then slowly look around me. Judging by the tiny bit of light leaking through, I shouldn’t be too deep under the snow. I slowly dug my way out with my board in tow when I heard someone digging from the other side.
“HERE! I’M HERE!” I yelled out and began to dig faster. A hand shot through the snow and grabbed me, and I was pulled out as the makeshift cave collapsed behind me.
“I’ve got you,” the stranger said, in a quite familiar voice.
“Spencer?” I said to the stranger, confused.
“Hey! What’re doing here?”
“Snowboarding…?” He nodded his head and gave me a thoughtful look.
“Well, you should head back now, I’ll be right behind you!” I just nodded dumbly and began to strap my snowboard back on. But when I tried to snowboard again, pain shot up my leg immediately, and I collapsed on the snow in a heap.
“Woah! Easy there! You okay?” I shook my head and grimaced when I tried to take another step.
“Ankle,” I muttered grimly to Spencer and he turned his back to me.
“Get on!”
“Wait what?” Was he going to carry me? Down this mountain? What is he crazy? Spencer faced me and rolled his eyes, giving me a duh look, his back turned to face me again. I warily climbed onto his back, and he hoisted me up, and began kicking our snowboards downwards as he began to trudge down the mountain, but not before glancing at the heap of snow a few feet away from where I was buried under. Weird…
