Falling for Her

Novel By: MaybeItWasNeverLove

They say breaking up is like a broken arm, you don’t how painful it is until you experience it. That was what it was like Alexis went through her breakup with school sweetheart Romeo Mitchell.

A heartbreaking first love that came crashing down. They say that you can’t be friends with someone used to love, or can you?

Cue Ethan Smith, the prince charming. Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, he makes Lexi believe that perhaps falling in love is more than heartbreak, and even worth it.

But everyone has secrets, some deeper than others.

And the question is, is the prince always the hero, and is the devil always the villain?

Falling for Her

Chapter One

'The scary thing about dating is that you either you marry them or you break up.'

School was never my favourite place to be, and the feeling of coming back was definitely dreadful. I hesitated at the front entrance of school before I finally steeled my heart and pushed open the squeaky door and walked in. I stepped in and breathed in the fresh scent of books and that when I noticed.

Everyone was staring at me. And I knew exactly why.

We broke up.

They said that the first day of school shaped the rest of the school year and I could see why. It was a shock to everyone, our breakup. It was those breakups that everyone asked you about, and gave you sympathy but deep down, they were all secretly glad.

I managed to ignore everyone's pestering and entered my room where I was greeted with a half-smile from my best friend, Chloe. Chloe was the typical 'golden child', blonde, fit and absolutely stunning. I smiled and swiftly slipped into the seat beside her, 'Hey Chloe.'

Chloe waved and then turned my way, 'Alexis, is it true?'

I shrugged, and went on to open my books. Chloe sighed and eventually got the idea that I didn't want to talk about it. That what everyone did, they nose around and wanted to see when you would crack. Sure, breakups sucked but it was never the end of the world.

Not for me anyways.

'Maybe he got bored of you,' someone jeered in the corridor and Chloe took the honour to bash him up. I sighed and walked to my next class, until a hard shoulder collided with mine and my books sprawled across the floor.

It was not my day today, 'Sorry.' I bent down to pick up my textbooks, and our hands skimmed against each other, 'Sorry.' I whispered as I looked up. I met the eyes of someone I was not yet ready to see, ever.

Romeo Mitchell. He picked up the remainder of my books as we stood, and gave me one of his carefree smiles as he handed him back to me, 'Hey Alexis.' I stood dumbly in front of him and he looked at me as though nothing was wrong.

As though he never broke my heart. I took the books out his hands and mumbled a tiny thanks, and he asked me about my holidays, 'How was your break Lexi?'

Lexi, it was his nickname for me. When we first met, I was the nerd at the back corner and was he was conveniently placed next to me. Lexi, he had no right to call me that anymore, 'It was great.' No, it was horrible, 'I heard you went to Europe.'

He laughed lightly, 'Yeah, well, it was cut short.' Everything felt so natural, natural to the point it sickened me. There wasn't even the slightest sense of awkwardness, it was like we had never been together, 'So Lexi, um -.'

'I was thinking - are we cool?'

I nodded slowly, 'Yeah, what do you mean?'

'No nothing,' he cleared himself and gave me his signature chuckle while he scratched his head, 'I mean, it's gonna be okay if we date other people right?'

He was about to continue until Natalie patted him on the shoulder.

'Romeo, it's so good to see you. Hey Alexis.' She smiled at me, 'Oh, didn't you two break up?'

Ouch, bitch.

'I'm soo sorry!' She said to me and I could tell she was enjoying this way too much, 'So you finally got bored of each other.'

He laughed jokingly and my heart stung painfully, and patted her on the head, 'Not at all, it was mutual. We're still friends at the end of the day, aren't we?'

He looked at me and it was then I think, that it really hit me. We had broken up. No more kisses, no more warm nights together or late night movies. A cold shivered throughout my body and I looked at him and I couldn't read his eyes anymore

He didn't even care, 'Yeah, whatever.' And I walked straight past him and on with my life. I stopped at my locker and opened it up and sighed to myself. I'm being so pathetic, and a laugh escaped my lips, 'what is it Romeo?' I heard Natalie's voice echo in the corridors.

'I was just wondering if you'll like to hang out sometime.' Came the familiar voice of Romeo, I bit my lip and slammed my locker. They both jumped as though I became Godzilla.

I gave them my innocent smile, 'Sorry, bit too much force.' Before I walked off to class, I bit my lip until I tasted blood and I had to plaster a smile on my face.

Romeo was a jerk.
