"I can't hear anything", Lila whispered in frustration. She had her ear pressed against the ornate door of Princess Giselle's sitting room. It had been almost forty-five minutes since Lila and Karmella had been sent out of the room.

"Lila, I don't think this is a very good idea...", Karmella said worriedly, "If anyone catches us eaves-dropping, we could be in a lot of trouble."

"She's never spent this long with any of the princes. Why is this one any different?", Lila wondered out loud. Karmella looked up.

"Do you not realise who he is?", she said. Lila turned her attention away from the door.

"Of course I know who he is. He made that quite clear when he entered the room. He's Prince Dimitrius Cane of Enderth", Lila said, mocking the prince towards the end of her speech. Karmella rolled her eyes.

"And do you not remember what Queen Dana and King Andres told Princess Giselle about Prince Dimitrius?", Karmella asked slowly. Lila gave her a blank stare. Karmella sighed.

"Lila, not only is he the most eligible bachelor in the land, but he's also a prince. Enderth is one of the most favored kingdoms - uniting it with Nouvelle would be incredibly beneficial to everyone involved. Not to mention he's incredibly handsome", Karmella added. Lila did not look impressed.

"Karmella, you surprise me. Is that all it takes to truly impress you and Princess Giselle? What has he done for his kingdom, for the civilians of his kingdom?", Lila began. She was getting so wrapped up in her lecture that she did not notice the door opening behind her. Karmella tried her hardest to alert her, but she could not get a word in.

"As far as I see it, he has done nothing to help those around him, at least nothing noteworthy, and he is probably another pompous, self-centered, mock of a prince!", Lila shouted.

"Well, it's good to know what the lower class of other countries think of me", Prince Dimitrius said smoothly. A slight trace of fear crossed Lila's face, but it quickly fled. She turned around to see Prince Dimitrius standing against the door frame with his arms crossed, a sly look on his face. Behind him stood an angry, blushing Princess Giselle. Karmella immediately bowed.

"M-my lord", she said shakily. Lila remained upright. Princess Giselle's face reddened even more, but Prince Dimitrius looked rather amused.

"You refuse to bow before royalty?", Dimitrius asked coolly. Lila looked from him to Giselle. Her look pleaded Lila to bow. Lila sighed and lowered her head. Dimitrius found this to be quite entertaining.

"Ah, so she does respect those above her", he said. Lila looked up, a fire in her eyes.

"I bow for my lady Princess Giselle - not for you", Lila said spitefully. Dimitrius smiled at her courage, but before he could say anything, Giselle cut in.

"Servant, you will do well to remember your place", she said with pain in her voice. Lila looked from Dimitrius to Giselle, surprised by her tone. But, she thought, she shouldn't be surprised. Giselle was royalty, and as her father would say, "beyond her status". She took one more look into Giselle's eyes, and her embarrassment was clear. Lila lowered her head.

"Servants, you may return to your quarters", Princess Giselle said. Karmella nodded her head, and grabbed Lila's hand, leading her away. Lila looked back as she was being pulled along. It seemed that Giselle was apologizing to Prince Dimitrius. But, as Lila was about to turn her head, she once again caught Dimitrius's eye, and he smiled.
