Oh why did he have to turn up at a moment like this.
“Did you see the queue?” I mumbled eyes still firmly shut. “I would have been fine if I hadn’t just discovered I have vertigo.” Opening my eyes I still felt dizzy and Bianca was looking at me strangely.
“Who are you talking to?” I pointed behind me.
“Oh my gosh!” Bianca gabbled excitedly, Oliver looking slightly taken-aback by her reaction.
“Oliver this is Bianca, vice versa.” They nodded at each other in acknowledgement and Bianca was smiling broadly.
“I’m just going to check out the video room.” She winked at me darting off inside. That girl really wouldn’t win any prizes for subtlety, she probably thought I wanted to be left alone with Oliver so I could have a quick snog-sesh.
“She seem’s nice.” Oliver began, taking Bianca’s former seat. “Excitable. But nice.” I smiled at this description.
“She’s great, though if Sara had made it I most likely still wouldn’t know her.”
“Sara?”
“My best mate.” I explained. “She had to train for some athletics tournament. Her parents were dead set against her coming.” Oliver stared into the distance, as if lost in thought.
“Parents can be difficult, I should know.”
“You’re not close?” Oliver chuckled mirthlessly.
“You could say that. They always wanted different things for me, they divorced years ago but the argument still stands.” I watched his usually bright eyes turn almost misty, feeling thankful the only thing my mum and dad argued about was who had possession of the TV remote.
“I’m sorry, I don’t know why just I told you that.” His lips once again formed a smile.
“About the Sara thing though, some things happen for a reason.” He could be right, I wouldn’t have met him either if Sara had come. She would have clouted Tim for me. Though he was smiling now, I couldn’t help but feel he was still thinking about his parents. I knew something which might cheer him up.
“Hey, check this out.” I handed him my digital camera.
“This isn’t your holiday snaps is it?…What the…” Oliver started laughing uncontrollably.
“Are those things sprayed on?” Ah good, the trouser pictures had the desired effect.
“Maybe you should get yourself a pair, I’m sure you could pull them off.” I nudged him, laughing now myself.
“Sorry to disappoint, but I don’t think their quite my style.” He grinned, offering me back my camera, then stopped.
“Wait.” He held the camera out in front of us and clicked the button.
“No! I’m not photogenic.” I protested.
“Too late.” He looked at the display screen,. “Whoa you were right!” Grabbing the camera off him I examined the picture. My long dark hair was slightly bouffant and I appeared surprised, whilst Oliver looked as if he posed for pictures everyday.
“Hey guys, ready for the next level?” Bianca was back, sipping a steaming hot chocolate.
“If we must.” I sighed following her to the next staircase.
