My stomach rumbled violently, causing the mousy woman opposite me to scowl over in disapproval. I shrugged unapologetically and carried on applying my lip-gloss in glass window facing me. After a few more minutes of glowering , she scurried off out the door muttering to herself. I looked around, it seemed I was alone. I sighed and put my feet up on the chairs beside me, I may as well make the most of time away from Tim, he would probably spend most of the trip stalking me anyway.

Lying back on the seats, I cursed Sara for not coming. Sara was my best friend and also our schools top athlete, she was supposed to be coming to Paris, but her parents insisted she couldn’t miss that much training for some school trip. So here I was alone and bored in Glasgow Airport, going to Paris without my best friend and the admirer from hell.

“ I can’t apologise enough.” The door to the prayer room opened, and in walked a flight attendant wearing a smart navy-blue uniform, followed by a boy not much older than me. “Your Private lounge will be opened-up again as soon as possible, can I offer you some complimentary champagne while you wait?” The boy slumped down on a chair opposite me and shook his head of unruly brown curls.

“No, just a black coffee.” He replied without even a glancing at her. The woman looking nervous , hovered for a minute before dashing off through the open door.

I lifted up my head slightly and slyly examined the guy sitting opposite me. He was engrossed in some obscure music magazine he had brought out his back pocket. After a few minutes his phone rang out loudly from his rucksack, after ignoring it for a considerable length of time he finally answered it.

“Hello?” After a long pause, he started muttering in rapid French, I didn’t need to know any French to know he was arguing with someone. This went on for quite a while until he switched back to English. “Look I’ll be back this evening, we’ll talk about it then.” He flipped close his phone and resumed reading his magazine. Seconds later he lowered it again to glare at me.

“Were you listening to that?”

“What?” I answered defensively.

“Forget it. The sooner I’m out of here, the better.” And with that, he picked up his magazine and resolutely ignored me.
