PROLOGUE
Sandstone
Imagine: It is the year 3,478. The world is covered with sand. Everyday, while parents work as farmers, children search the desert for cacti plants. These cacti plants, are little flowing plants, about the size of a tulip, and make delicious meals, and contain sugary water.
Imagine living in a tiny adobe, made out of clay bricks, and wearing a cloth robe as clothing and sandals as protection from the hot sand.
I know what you are thinking. You think I’m crazy. How can people live like this?
Am I lying? Yes.
In the year 3,478, only most of the Earth is covered in sand.

How did this happen?
I guess I should warn you.
People where warned, but the people didn’t listen. They burned away the ozone layer, and the sun became hotter and hotter.
There were no more fossil fuels, and a huge depression. Thousands of people where dying each day because of hunger.
People where desperate. Nations where desperate for anything and everything.
And when countries get desperate, what do they do? Do they problem solve?
No.
They start war.

Soon, everything was gone. Even hope, was a lost memory.
The Earth’s population was cut into a quarter, and to make it worse, the sun wasn’t getting any cooler. This all happened in 2,352-2,452. A hundred years war.
Still, the people called a truce and re-built a nation. But even though, no matter how advanced their technology, they couldn’t stop the Earth from heating up.
Icebergs melted and there was no such thing as Antarctica. Most of the Earth was desert. People could not let go of their land, but some did and with their technology, they built a continent. It was far north, and on steel stilts, to hold it up.
Most people lived here, but my story isn’t about them.
This story, is about Adoni, the girl in the desert.
