Adoni put on her best smile for Peter, as well as her attitude. The plan in her head would soon form in realty.
There were subtle signs that Peter was starting to develop interest in her. She herself had barely interest in him, her heart belonged to Daku, but this plan wasn’t for her. It was for Daku, her parents, and more importantly, the child of Daku.
Adoni smiled. Daku’s first child would be her own, too and not Sally’s. Even though this situation was unthinkable for her two weeks ago, today, she would bear it and smile.
Yesterday, she had learned about the child, and spent the rest of the day planning. Now, a whole new life was planned out in front of her. Adoni didn’t care that she wouldn’t spend the rest of her life with Daku, for Adoni had Daku inside her, growing and living, because of her.
If she could survive this, then she could survive the pain of a broken heart, even thought nothing can hurt more than a broken heart.
Adoni walked out of the hut earlier than usual, at about 5:30 in the morning, instead of the ritual time, 6:00 a.m.
The sky was still dark, but there were signs that the sun would rise today. Soon enough, there would be pink streaks light signaling the day.
Adoni walked over a few dunes over to her favorite spot, a dark boulder in surrounded by hills of sands and dune-grass. It was almost camouflaged by its pink-ish color and was dubbed the “thinking rock”.
She had spent a lot of the past two weeks on this rock, playing with the dune grasses and just, well, thinking.
Relationships were a lot like a puzzle, sometimes when you lose or break the pieces, you should just forget about that puzzle and start a new one. Her relationship with Daku was scattered and confusing, so much that Adoni just gave up.
Thoughts took over her, capturing her in their cloudy haze, until it was broken by the sound of a voice.
“Adoni! Ah, there you are,” Summerland yelled as she jogged over to the rock where Adoni was sitting.
“We were looking all over for you,” Peter added with a strange expression on his face,” We looked all over for you,”
“I’m sorry,” Adoni replied in her sweetest tone.
Summerland and looked at her oddly.
“No need to be sorry, we just searched a while. No harm done,” Peter said in a sincere tone.
“Yea, I mean seriously. You don’t have to be sorry,” Summerland added.
“Well, lets get to work,” Adoni said.
“You guys can work, I’m going home. I have a headache,” Summerland said.
Adoni tried not to let her happiness show. Summerland was making her plan that much easier.
“Well, its just you and me now,” Adoni said in a flirtatious tone, just as soon as Summerland was out of sight.
Peter grinned. “I guess it is, isn’t it? Well we better get to work…”
His voice trailed off as he bent down to pull a cacti plant. Adoni decided to do the same.
“Is Daku your beaux or something…?” Peter asked.
“No. Of course not,” She forced herself to laugh,” Daku is engaged.”
Now Peter laughed. “Nothing like a soul mate, eh?” Even though he tried to bear it cheerfully, Adoni could see how desperate he was.
If she was Summerland, Adoni might have sneered, but she knew that Summerland was too thick to see through peter like Adoni could. Thank goodness that Adoni was nice.
“Nothing like one, but I’m still looking,” Adoni said, using what she said a hint. Things where going just as she planned.
