Chapter 14
I woke up to find myself in a damp, dark jail cell. I was laying on a hard wood table that served as a bed. I groaned as I sat up because I was really sore from lying the uncomfortable surface. I walked over to the bars at the front of my cell and peeked out to find a guard sitting in a chair next to my cell. As I looked out, he glanced up at me and then turned away. I walked back over to the bench and sat down. I began to cry, knowing now that my life was over. I was a prisoner to a merciless monster, and I knew I probably wouldn’t make it out of here alive. I cried until I had no more tears, then sulked for a few more hours. I wondered what time it was as I started to become very hungry. As I was just about to pass out from hunger, I heard a familiar voice whisper in the darkness, “Jasmine, where are you?” It was Jordan. I ran over to the bars, noticing that the guard was asleep, and whispered back, “Over here, Jordan.” A second later, I was looking into the face of my angel, my savior. “Are you okay?” he asked as he brushed his hand across my cheek. “I’m really hungry, but can you get me out of here?” I asked. Jordan nodded and started to pick a lock w/ a hairpin he had, because breaking the door down would awaken the guard. A minute later, he opened the door and picked me up bridal style in his arms. I laid my head against his chest as he said, “Everything’s going to be fine, Jasmine, just relax.” I passed out soon after. Jasmine
My heart started to break as I read the letter. When I had finished reading it, I crumpled it up and threw it across the room. I began to cry really hard. My mom walked in a little while later and asked,
“Sweetie, what’s wrong?” I sniffled and said,
“Jordan ran away.”
“Oh, honey,” my mom said and sat on the edge of my bed and hugged me tight. “Mom, can I just have some time alone, now?” I asked, wanting to be alone to think. She nodded and walked out, closing my door. I cried more and more. I thought I’d never stop crying. Life without Jordan was meaningless. I couldn’t live without him. What am I going to do now?
POV: Jordan
After I wrote Jasmine a note explaining everything, I left. I had escaped from the room my brother had locked me in, and had found her and took her home. I knew there was no way we could be together: not with my dad chasing after me, angry and wanting to bring me back at all costs, including killing Jasmine so I wouldn’t have anyone in my way when I got married and became king. I would never let that happen if I could help it. I knew my dad wouldn’t go after Jasmine if he knew she wasn’t with me. I drove and drove, not really knowing where I was going. I drove for days until I reached Canada. I wanted to leave the country to make it harder for anyone to find me. I loved Jasmine, but I knew this was the only way she would be safe.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~A few days later, on Saturday, my friends and I went to the beach because they wanted to help me forget about Jordan(though I knew that would never happen). We swam out about waist deep and started to talk, swim, and splash. All of a sudden, we were caught in a rip current. They were able to swim to shore, but I couldn’t get free of the current as it dragged me further out in the ocean. I was started to become tired as I struggled to get out of it, and by the time it dissolved, I was at least a mile away from the shore where my friends now were. I started to struggle to stay above water as the waves crashed into me. Salt water filled my mouth and I began to choke and grow weaker. My friends ran off, saying they were going to find a lifeguard. I knew it would be too late. I started to drown, and as water filled my lungs, I passed out.
I woke up, thinking I was dead, but finding myself on the shore. To my surprise, Jordan was standing over me. When he noticed I was awake he leaned down and kissed me. He said,
“I told you I would protect you,” and then he was gone. It all seemed like a dream. All of a sudden, my friends ran up, a lifeguard with them.
“How did you get here?” Natalie asked.
“Jordan saved me,” I whispered. Of course, my friends looked at me like I was crazy, but I didn’t care. I couldn’t stay here, so I left and went back home. I went in my room and cried. I logged onto my computer later, where I had a new email. It was from Jordan. He said that he loved me and told me to stay safe, unlike earlier today. He said he cared about me. He also said that he was safe as well and was far away from his father. He missed me and wanted me to know that he’ll always be there for me and will always love me. I cried as I closed out my email box. I wanted so badly to see him, to believe him, but I felt that he would forget about me and meet some other girl, who was a vampire, and fall in love with her. I was just some human to him. Unless I was turned, I knew we could never be together anyways.
