Chapter 18
I can’t believe it’s the 1st day of me and Jasmine’s senior year! It’s been 3 years since I first met her, but it seems like only yesterday. We’ve grown a lot closer since then. She moved in with us not long after her parents died, and became like an adopted sister to me, though she’d always be so much more than that to me. Not much has changed in 3 years, except she’s become so much more beautiful. I am kinda worried about what’ll happen after this year, but Jasmine is as well, though I never show her that I’m afraid, only to comfort her. Well, today’s my last 1st day of school ever, and I’m excited, but still nervous about what the future will hold. I guess only time will tell.
As me and Jordan walked over to the table where my friends were sitting and waiting at lunch, I saw his whole expression change as he started to sit down across from this new girl at our table. He looked really scared, mad, and frustrated all at once. Jordan, what’s wrong? I thought, talking to him in my head. He didn’t respond as he sat down, body stiff and frozen.
“Hey, Jasmine, this is Jennifer, she’s new here; me, Maria, and Amy have a few classes with her, she’s a senior, too,” Natalie said as I finally looked at the girl. She was beautiful: she had very pale skin, dark brown hair, and beautiful brown eyes. I immediately realized she was a vampire, because of her pale skin; plus, why else would Jordan be so tense around her unless he knew her? I guess they must have had a rocky past, I thought to myself, forgetting about Jordan listening in. Jordan said to himself, though directed at me,
“You have no idea.” Can she read minds, too? I thought. He moved his head back and forth discretely like he was looking for something, which to me meant no.
“Hi, I’m Jasmine,” I politely introduced myself to Jennifer.
“I already know who you are,” she snapped at me. Jordan made a low, protective growl; thank goodness my friends were lost in their own conversation.
“What do you want, Jennifer? I told you to leave me alone and never come back,” Jordan said with clear irritation in his voice.
“I’m here to convince you to change your mind and not make the biggest mistake of your life by choosing this petty human girl with no experience in any leadership position, much less queen, to be your queen,” she said curtly, glaring at me, pure hatred in her eyes.
“Jennifer, I told you that you weren’t my type and that it was over, what do you think’s gonna make me change my mind now?” Jordan asked, then continued,
“Especially since you were and still are after me for my throne and money, and nothing else, much less love. You only turned me and pretended to love me because you were paid by my parents, what’s gonna convince me that you’ve changed and aren’t in it for the power and money? Plus, this 'petty human' happens to be my mate, and we possess something that you and me never had: true love.”
“But Jordan, she’s not right for you, she has no experience in leadership-” Jordan interrupted Jennifer and said,
“My mother is going to teach her everything she needs to know about becoming queen.” I just listened as the conversation progressed, not wanting to interrupt so I could learn the whole story behind these two.
“I’ll never love you again, Jennifer, you have to understand and grasp that; I love Jasmine, not you,” Jordan said, the seriousness evident in his tone.
“Well then, I’ll just have to make you love me,” she said, and jumped up and walked away, I suppose to begin concocting some evil plan, which made me shudder. Jordan instantly noticed and said soothingly,
“Jasmine, it’s okay, I promise I’ll protect you from whatever evil scheme she’s planning.” Though no matter how much he comforted me, I knew that this girl was someone you didn’t want to mess with, and since I had made her jealous, I was now her #1 target and in serious danger.
