POV: Jasmine
(8 months later)
I woke up the next morning to the sound of pebbles hitting my window. I looked on my nightstand next to me at my alarm clock, which said 9:00 in the morning. I gasped, realizing that the girls said that they would be here at 9:00. I had overslept, I guess forgetting to cut my alarm clock on last night since I was so tired. I ran over to my window across the room and opened it. I said as quietly as possible while they could still hear me,
“Sorry guys, I overslept, give me about 20 minutes and I’ll be down.” They nodded their heads. I was being quiet because even though vampires can’t sleep, I wanted to get my dress with as less of an event as possible, considering that Jordan would want to go with me to protect me, but I didn’t want him to see my dress until the night of the prom. I wanted to surprise him, which wasn’t easy to do, considering he could always hear me sneaking up on him with his vampire instincts and he could hear my thoughts. I knew he was probably in his room either reading a magazine, listening to his iPod, or just relaxing, considering he had nothing else to do and couldn’t sleep. Jordan was pretty easygoing, except when we were at school, and especially whenever we’d see Jennifer in the hallway, classroom, or cafeteria. She never really did anything to me, just sent evil glares my way every time she saw me, but I knew she was hatching some dangerous, evil scheme. It really scared me, but I would be okay as long as Jordan was around. All these thoughts ran through my head as I got dressed, did my makeup, brushed my hair and teeth, put my contacts in, etc. I ran downstairs as quietly as possible, and thankfully made it out the door without anyone noticing, especially Jordan. I waved to the girls as I rushed past the guards and into the circle driveway where they were parked.
“Finally!” Natalie said sarcastically.
“Sorry, Nat, I guess I forgot to set my alarm,” I said as we all climbed into Natalie’s . Amy, Maria, and Diane sat in the backseat waiting. Sarah, much to her disappointment, had to go out of town this weekend, and couldn’t go dress shopping with us, so she would have to do it with her mom.
“Hey guys,” I said, turning around to wave to my friends in the backseat. Natalie jumped in the driver’s side and started the car. As she drove down the road towards the mall, we all talked about prom and graduation and how much we’d miss each other after this year. I especially expressed how much I would miss them all, and I hope they didn’t notice how much I was expressing it, since I would never see them again after this year. Our first stop was for breakfast at IHOP. I ordered French toast, and it was delicious. It made me realize something very important, though: after this year, I won’t be able to eat/enjoy human food anymore. I sighed as we headed off towards the mall and arrived, parking near the front door. And so our endless shopping spree began. We went to almost every store that sold prom gowns and I finally found my perfect one. It was at this small, but expensive bridal shop(which wasn’t a problem since Jordan’s parents had given me an unlimited credit card, which wasn’t a big deal for them since they were so rich). It was hot pink and strapless with flowers all over it. It’s so beautiful! I hope Jordan will like it! Natalie walked over and said,
“Is this the one? It’s really beautiful, you’d look amazing in it.”
“Yes, I think it is, I’ll go try it on and then you give me your honest opinion, okay?” I asked.
“Okay,” she answered, then walked off to look at more dresses as I entered the dressing room. I tried it on, and looked in the mirror. Wow, I look better in this than I thought I would, I thought as I spun around, examining the dress. I walked out the dressing room and found Natalie, who was looking at a pretty lavender dress.
“What do you think?” I asked.
“Wow, you look amazing, you look great enough to be prom queen; which you probably will be since you’re like one of the most popular people in school,” Natalie said happily.
“Great, but where’s the other girls?” I asked, scanning the store for any sign of them.
“Oh, they headed off towards the food court since it’s lunchtime; I told them we’d meet them there,” Natalie answered.
“Okay, I’ll have them hold my dress and then I’ll look for shoes after we finish eating,” I answered as I asked the clerk at the register to hold my dress for me. Natalie and I linked arms and walked out towards the food court. About halfway there, my worst nightmare showed up. I saw Jennifer in front of us, sitting on a bench, staring evilly at me. To my ultimate disappointment, Natalie, not knowing that Jennifer hated my guts, steered us both in her direction. I sighed as Natalie said,
“Hi, Jen, whatcha doin’ all alone?” They started a conversation, which I completely ignored. All of a sudden, Jordan appeared out of nowhere and I felt his arm go protectively around my waist as he instantly said,
“Hey, girls, I need to talk to Jasmine for a minute.” He pulled me around the corner out of the girls’ sight, and whispered harshly,
“What do you think you’re doing? You could’ve been kidnapped, hurt, or killed by Jennifer! You should never go off without me!”
“Jordan, I was just trying to have some time with the girls and go dress shopping for the prom and I didn’t want you to see the dress before then; I wanted to surprise you,” I said, “and I didn’t want you to read my mind and see it, either.”
“Oh, Jasmine, you didn’t have to do that,” he said.
“Please, at least let me go buy the dress and shoes without you looking, and try not to read my mind, okay?” I asked pleadingly, giving him my puppy dog face. He gave in, saying,
“Okay, but otherwise, I’ll be with you; where are you going now, anyways?”
“Oh, me and Natalie were going to meet the girls at the food court, until we saw her,” I said, my teeth clenched. We rounded the corner again and found the girls coming over to us.
“Hey, Jen’s gonna join us at the food court and then go dress shopping, is that okay with you guys?” Natalie asked.
“Uh, yeah, I guess,” I said quickly, staring with horror at Jordan. We walked towards the food court, my face grim with disappointment and fear. We walked over and got our food, and then found the girls sitting at a big booth.
“Hey, girls, Jordan and Jennifer are joining us, if ya’ll don’t mind,” Natalie said happily. The other girls shook their heads and then made room for all of us. As I sat down next to Jordan and directly across from Jennifer, she sent me an evil glare. That’s when I realized this was going to be the worst day ever.
