So...this is another chapter I've put up. So there's a chapter previously to this, so don't forget to read it if you haven't already :D And I apologise in advance if what's planned doesn't really work for the novel...

chapter 23

That night, I was glad to get into Jace’s bed. Hospital beds were so uncomfortable and they hurt my back. Ever since I’d woken up, I was counting down the hours until I could  crawl into a normal, comfy bed. It was a wonder how I could stay in a coma with a bed so atrociously bad.
Snuggling down into the soft duvet, I heard Jace chuckle at me. I opened an eye.
“What?” I asked sleepily.
“You slept for a whole week straight and now you want to sleep again?” I saw him shake his head in wonder at me.
“In my defense, the bed was completely awful to lay on so I need to let my back repair itself” I shrugged turning over. “Are you going to stay there all night staring at me or are you going to come and lay in this snugly warm bed?” I added opening the corner of the duvet to let him in.
“Ok” I heard as I felt two warm arms wrap around my small frame. “love you” He said kissing my forehead.
“You too” I mumbled incoherently as sleep overtook me.

I heard a soft bang coming from downstairs and I shot up. I waited for a few minutes but I didn’t hear another noise. Convincing myself that it was all just a dream, I layed back down. A few minutes later I heard another noise emanating from the same place. Looking down at a sleeping Jace, I decided against waking him up since he looked so peaceful. And besides, I didn’t want to be one of those girls in a horror film who send their boyfriends downstairs and then get killed. Nu-uh. So silently, I tiptoed down the stairs. When I get to the bottom, I saw some keys on the bottom step so I picked them up in case I needed a weapon. I really did feel like James Bond for a while until I saw a shadowed figure in the living room. Damn it! Why couldn’t this all be a dream? I knew it wasn’t because it felt very real and I could feel my chest constricting with fear as I edged my way over to the light switch. Even before I saw him, I knew who it would be. Flicking the switch to turn the light on, I realised that my assumptions were true. It was him. A scream wove its way up my chest and into my throat. But just seeing him stopped the scream in it’s tracks. He was deadly. Something inside me was telling me not to let off that I was terrified.
“What do you want” I spoke clearly.
“When Iheard that you were with Jace, I had to see for myself” That highly recognisable voice spoke, enunciating each word with venom and malice.
“What do you want?” I whisper yelled, conscious of a sleeping Jace above me.
“You, my darling. Only you” He replied, stepping out from the shadows. I gasped. His once puny arms were now filled out with muscle. Not just regular sized muscles, they were like a panther’s muscles, perfectly balanced. And he looked like a cadged animal too, just waiting to pounce. He watched every movement I made with a calculated, cold look. His posture said everything; I was going to be killed by him.
“Scared yet?” He asked with a smirk.
“No” I replied, and surprisingly, my voice kept steady. It didn’t reflect what I felt inside. I was truly afraid. Why didn’t I Just wake Jace up? Oh yeah, because I was too stubborn. That’s why.
“That’s very stupid of you, little girl” He growled. Wait- growled? Humans couldn’t make such a noise but I heard it loud and clear resonating through his throat like a challenged beast.
“I am not a little girl!” I said a little too loudly. “Just because I’m not scared of somebody doing a poor imitation of the big bad wolf doesn’t mean I’m stupid” I said, lowering my voice.
“A poor imitation? Ok. Well it may be a stupid trait but it’s also admirable. I can tell you’ve looked death straight in the face” He spoke calmly, his voice not wavering. I thought I saw his eyes flash deep silver but it was probably the fear kicking in.
“What are you going to do to me, then?” I asked, raising my chin defiantly.
“I’m not going to tell you.” He replied waving my protests away with his huge hands.
“Well if you’re not going to do anything, then get out” I jerked my thumb to the door.
“Ok, but I’ll be back” He said menacingly before I was greeted with an empty room.
Thinking I’d imagined the whole ordeal, I ran back upstairs and jumped into bed. I immediately felt warm and safe within the circle of Jace’s arms as I drifted off to sleep. And just as I was about to fall unconscious, I heard a single wolf howl in the distance.
