"No. I saw a vision first. I saw Gordon looking at a girl that didn't know she was being watched.. It looked like the girl was in the bedroom where Guinevere is sleeping in now. And then I saw Guinevere right there in the kitchen, it was as if I was seeing an image of the dream."
Gordon's in the forest close to the house when he looks at the house. He sees me opening up the bedroom window. He watches me. It's very much easy for a vampire to look that far. He doesn't know why Phyllis would do something as stupid as to invite four humans into his home. He remembers a time when he easily compelled girls or woman to just drink their blood; they'd never be at his home if he wasn't planning on drinking from them or sleeping with them; or both. I clearly got his attention; not because he wants to take me to bed or drink from me, not that he wouldn't mind. He's lived long enough to realize that I have affected him more than anybody has ever before.
I move away from the window thinking that maybe I should leave. My cell phone rings but I don't answer it when I see it's my foster mother. I decide to go jogging.
Gordon's surprised when he sees me jogging. I don't see him because I'm listening to my music player. He follows me without me noticing. This time I don't go through the forest but keeps going down the road. I love jogging. I hear breaks making me look back. A drunk driver has overtaken another car and is heading straight towards me because there's a car coming from the other direction. Is this how I'm going to die? Just think about the headlines: Au Pair dies while going for a jog. I'm lifted so suddenly that I think it's the car that's throwing me into the air. I close my eyes. Gordon speaks to me once we're out of sight, "You almost got killed." I open my eyes. He's carrying me, "What just happened?"
"I saved your life."
"The car hit me."
"No, it didn't. It hit a tree."
"Please put me down." My legs can't carry me once I'm standing. He lifts me up, "I'll take you home." I know I won't be able to get home by myself. I almost died! I know I was in front of that car, I almost died! We pass the car that has slammed into a tree just like Gordon said. I say,, "Wait. We have to see if the driver's okay."
Gordon, "I'll come back."
"No. It'll take too long. Put me down." He puts me down. I barely keep my balance.
Gordon looks into the car and he feels the guy's pulse, "He's still alive. And it doesn't look as if the car is going to explode."
I make it to where Gordon is, "I think you should phone for an ambulance."
So he does.
The ambulance and police is there. Gordon has just given a statement on how the accident happened. I'm surprised he doesn't' mention me. He walks away with the police officer.
Phyllis is also there, with me now "You okay, Guinevere?"
"Yeah. Thanks to your brother. It just bothers me that he didn't tell the police that I almost died."
Gordon comes back, "We can go home now."
Phyllis takes me by the arm, "Yes. Let's go back."
I look at Gordon, "You left me out. Why? Was I just imagining being near death?"
Gordon, "Nothing happened to you, so what would you've told differently?"
I don't know what to say. We walk back to the house.
Amy, Kristen and Nadine are waiting for us at the front door of the house. Amy, "What just happened?"
Gordon, "A drunk driver had an accident. He's going to be okay."
None of them asks me if I'm okay because they only know of the drunk driver.
Once inside Phyllis gives me a pill saying I'll feel much better after I've had some sleep. The house is silent when I wake up. I can't find my cell phone anywhere. Maybe I lost it out there close to where the accident took place. I have to have my phone. After almost dying today I realized that I should at least let my foster parents know I'm okay. I dress warm and then take off to where the accident happened. A few street lights help me to see. The car wreck is still there. I find my cell phone on the spot where I thought the car was going to hit me. I pick it up. It doesn't look damaged. I scroll to the voice messages hearing one message after the other from my foster parents asking me to at least let them know if I'm alright. I phone my foster mother. Her phone goes to voicemail, "It's me Guinevere. I'm okay. I'll let you know when I'll be back. Don't worry about me." I hang up.
I'm thinking back to the accident. I can clearly remember the car coming towards me. What or whoever picked me up must have been faster than super-fast.
I hear Quentin, "Guinevere."
"I was told to look after your safety."
"You never sleep?"
"I take my job very seriously."
"Quentin, I almost died here today. Gordon- Mr Yates says that it's not so. He said he saved my life but then he said nothing happened to me so why should I talk to the police. The car was about to hit me when I was lifted into the air. I thought it was the car but he was carrying me when I opened my eyes."
Quentin doesn't answer.
"You think I'm crazy."
Still he's quiet.
"I guess everyone's out?"
"You know where to?"
"You'll take me?" I think, no I need to get out.
