"The council said you can change her if you give them a third of your fortune."
"They're requesting money?"
"They wanted to make you go there and help them to make money. I said it would take time, why not let you give them a third of your fortune and get it over with. I told them a third is big enough to support them for the next fifty years."
Gordon's smiling again. He hugs his sister, "Thank you Phyllis."
I'm lying in bed in the dark, feeling life slipping from me. Minutes feels like hours now. I don't want Gordon to get into trouble, so I, without a word, persuaded him to not change me yet. I hope Phyllis is back soon.
The bedroom door opens, "Phyllis is back. I have consent to change you."
I give a faint smile.
Phyllis, "So what are you waiting for?" She leaves us alone and closes the door behind her.
Gordon sees that I'm worse. I don't know why, but maybe because of letting go of whatever I was holding on to; to stay alive my eyes fell shut. I lost consciousness. I felt peace now, because I knew that there was a way out now.
Quentin's face is the first I see. And then I look at Gordon who's speaking, "How do you feel?"
How do I feel? Am I dead?
Phyllis, "You're like us now."
I sit up too fast making me say, "Wow."
Gordon, "You'll get use to everything."
I know the room is dark but I can see as if it was day. I touch my head and then look at my legs and hands. I want to walk to the bathroom, I underestimated the speed a vampire has so I almost it my face against the wall. Gordon's even quicker than me, so he opens the bathroom door before I can bump into it. He grabs me from behind brining me to halt in between the dresser and the bath. He slowly turns me around to face him. The bathroom is also dark but we can see each other.
We almost kiss but Phyllis interrupts us by speaking close to the door, "A girl fitting the description of Kirstin was found near the river. She's not dead but barely breathing. A vampire attached her and left her for dead. We'll see you two there."
Gordon gave me time to clean up and we both stood in front of the bedroom window when I was done. He says, "You go first."
"I don't know- I've always been afraid of heights." He lifts me up and jumps out holding me. And then he gently puts me down, "Want to try the running part?"
I start to run; liking it more and more the more I run. He's making sure that he's running close by, and then the trouble again with coming to halt. Gordon realizes it so he rapidly gets hold of me and we both fall to the ground. I start to laugh, Gordon laughs with me. Phyllis is standing over us, "We've got company."
Gordon gets up and then helps me to get up. As if things are serious again he talks with the other vampires that found Kirsten. I slowly walk towards Kirsten, concentrating so that I don't move too fast. She really looks bad. The smell of blood has never smelled this good… Quentin pulls me away from Kirsten, "You shouldn't be this close to her." I walk to stand next to Phyllis but the smell of blood has already woken an intense thirst inside me. I turn around facing the direction of Gordon's house and then I start to run. The running doesn't take the thirst away, but at least it makes me feel better. All Gordon tells them is, "Quentin, take Kirsten to the house; the outside building."
He easily catches up with me, helping me to stop just in time, "You did the right thing. Come on. I want to show you something."
I'm surprised to see he's taking me into his bedroom. He opens up one cub board and presses a button. A fridge opens up, "Fresh blood."
Hesitantly I walk closer to the fridge and take a bottle. He gives me a whisky glass too. I take it. He opens the bottle and pours some into the glass. At first I think it's odd but then I take the glass and drink it all. He fills it again and I take it from him. I drink.
My cell phone has been ringing uncontrollably, "My foster parents are really worried."
'We have to give them a good enough reason on why you're staying here with me."
