I laughed. I couldn't contain it, so I just let it out.
"You're saying...I'm...a werewolf?" I giggled, hysterically.
"Yes, I'm seriously, Skyler," he spoke. I stopped laughing and stood up.
"What thefuck, David!" I screamed. He looked at me.
"Don't ever say that again, Skyler," he hissed.
"What do you expect? I just found out, TWENTY FUCKING YEARS LATER, that I'm afucking werewolf!" I bellowed. He glared at me and motioned me down. I threw myself down on the couch and folded my arms.
"What did you want me to say, Sky? 'Happy Birthday, honey. Oh by the way, your mother had an affair with a human and voila! Here you are!''?"
I rolled my eyes and looked down at my multi-coloured nails. Dad walked up to me and cupped my face.
"Baby, I just didn't want you to get hurt. You know kids and their big mouths. You would've told everyone and get sent to a mental home,"
"I know, I know..." I mumbled and he kissed my forehead.
"Dad, if Mom was a werewolf...does that mean I'm only half?"
"Yes. That's exactly why we aren't with her. Malcom, her mate, didn't want another man's child—let alone ahalf-ling—in his pack," he revealed. Eva and I gawked. Mate? Pack?
"Wait...if I'm one too, why can't I change? Whyhaven'tI changed?" I questioned, nowreallyinterested. My questions were being answer!
"Remember when you and Eva met? In day care when you were two?"
"Yeah, and you said-"
"You're gonna need each other," he recapitulated,
"You see, Eva's mother is a witch...and so are you," he addressed my bestfriend. We both gawked at him.
"And it's your power that has kept Skyler under control,"
"Wait, wait, wait!" repeated Evaline, waving her hands infront of her.
"You're saying I can do a load of cool crap?" she grinned, forcing me to grin too. Dad laughed and nodded.
"But now, I'm afraid, the hounds are back..." he sighed.
"The hounds?" Eva and I blurted in unity.
"That's what everyone in Havenborough is calling the 'animal' attacks; 'The Awakening of the Hounds'"
